Unless, of course, a 4K disc is released and no other version is released going forward. Something like The Abyss.

I've got the Abyss on DVD.
I can't find my copy of True Lies but I may still have that.

I prefer up-converted DVD to 4K online most of the time. Sometimes the new version is just the old copy up-converted.

By the way- I mentioned the 4K of Promising Young Woman and that disc is simply botched with the wrong audio track but a replacement program is underway.

I enjoyed PYW but not enough to double dip.

What I did watch recently was the Blu of Dogs Don’t Wear Pants. Excellent film, felt very unique. Recommended. (Not one for kids though)

I've still got DVDs of The Abyss and True Lies as well. It would be great if the new versions (if they are ever released) are massive improvements but after the botched 4K of Terminator 2 I'm not optimistic.

In either case my DVDs are still enjoyable and the studios have no way of ruining them.

Strays is also not for kids.

Dog movie -> not always good for kids.

I actually hosted a streaming movie last night. (Strays) My ISP (Xfinity) comes with a "free" "premium" ad based tier of Peacock. I actually like the 3 mins of commercials before you can watch the movie without interruption. I actually played the muted commercials for no one before my guest arrived. I don't like to host a movie I don't have so I'm planning on buying way too many discs on Black Friday.

I still have my The Abyss DVD and laserdisc boxed set but would love a solid upgrade. I still have my True Lies laserdisc as well but never bought it on DVD.

Wild to prefer the Blu Ray of Reservoir Dogs when it looks really dated. DVD era master used. Are the colours on the 4k that different?

I've been listening to what Tim Hunt has said about the Cameron movies and it's well known that Studio Canal used the version of T2 which was used for the 3D conversion, not suitable in 2D. They claimed "Cameron approved" but that was only for 3D. He says the other films look "filmic." This video is encouraging:

The only questionable thing is the Avatar 4k, but I haven't seen that.

I'm surprised by this take. The 4K disc looks amazing to my eyes. It didn't look that good in theaters and I saw it multiple times during it's run. But everyone's tastes are different.

I saw a news article today saying sale of personal information online is something that is NOT your fault.

I went looking for the article to read and share it and can't find it but there's plenty of headlines on the subject.

"Wawa customers’ information is for sale on dark web after data breach, company says" - Miami Herald

"Social Media User Information For Sale On The Dark Web" - Forbes

I want to be on a soap box here for a minute and say whatever you publish online IS your fault and if you don't have a strategy for protecting yourself at this point you are likely having lots of personal info about you bought and sold.

I do volunteer IT work for my church and some members fall for scams repeatedly. They ask "why would people do this ? " It's not always people, these things have been automated by bots to some extent and it's not always people who have a choice either as some people are abducted and live in scam centers using several mobile phones all day.

If you are online and not thinking about your personal safety and security I suggest you do think about it for a moment. I know in this day of instant 30 second video streaming people would do anything other than think for a moment but I am simply recommending a little caution.

Online companies like Netflix and Facebook know what you do and where and when you do it. Maybe you pay for no ads now but you will pay for no tracking later.

Just ordered The Irishman CC BD and Age of Innocence CC BD. They were $19.99 each and I had a $15 AGC, so used that towards the purchase.

I could watch Pesci, De Niro and Pacino on a loop.

Loved The Irishman.

The only questionable thing is the Avatar 4k, but I haven't seen that.
When Avatar looks great, which is most of the movie, it's pretty much demo-worthy. It looks really questionable during shots on the base, like when Quaritch talks to the new arrivals. The whole sequence where Jake lands on Pandora for the first time was so fake. I think others' descriptions of it being like watching a video game are spot-on.

Did something last night that I had not done in many years, went to Barnes & Nobel (here) to purchase the Criterion Collection UHD Blu-ray version of The Others. Sold out, the same for the other Asheville NC store. Will pick it up nest week at the Greenville SC store.

Stopped reading after the first paragraph. Discs are only irrelevant to those that don’t care about them. Click bait shite in my opinion.

For me, one of the greats of the horror genre.

Watched 3 films today:

The Irishman CC BD (was demo-worthy)

Duel 4K disc (awesome presentation and fun Atmos track)

Last Voyage of the Demeter BD (I initially thought my GameFly rental was lost until it arrived today. It was a lot of fun and the BD is stellar - I hope we get a 4K disc at some point.)
