I haven't posted here in for a while but I see things haven't really changed.

People still trying to reason with Lee about money.

Anyone here use/have used TRAKT (here) to keep tabs on what they have watched, when and where?

Another Zidoo owner suggested that I try it out. Will look into it after the US holidays.

You are assuming all streamers never attend movie theaters and those that do have no SVOD/AVOD accounts. That's ridiculous thinking.

If streaming hurts the film industry why in the world are the leading SVOD/AVOD providers movie creators?

Disney = Disney+
Paramount = Paramount+
Comcast Universal = Peacock
Warner Brothers Discovery = MAX
Consumers prefer streaming and their are lets say 6 major studios. in the past as an example lets say the market cap was 100 billion dollars split between those 6, comcast and dish. With streaming they cut Comcast and dish out and the market cap is 50 billion dollars. If only one of them pushes streaming then that one gets a monopoly and the majority of the 50 billion dollars but if they all push streaming they splits 50 billion instead of 100 billion halving their income while spending massively changing systems to a model consumers want more. Game theory kind of forces these companies to streaming even though they know it will make them less profit then the old system if they all do it because none of them have a monopoly.

Its the same reason farmers take out massive loans for farming equipment to increase yield even though they made more money in the old system as the price of food falls while they have massive debts.

Personally a few factors stopped people I know from going to theaters.

Covid- they stopped when covid was a thing It doesn't really matter that covids less of an issue its changed habits.

Price- during the time they stopped due to covid the price went up a lot which gives sticker shock if they think of going back. It didin't go up by 10% increments for them it doubled in price from last time they went

noise- At least personally theaters crank the volume to loud lately and movies just Aren't worth hearing damage.

streaming- you can pay 100 dollars to see one film in theater as a family or stream everything for a year for the same 100 and have money left over.

lack of quality films- a lot of the films that bombed this year like the marvels and little mermaid also would have bombed in 2019. They just aren't that good with massively inflated budgets. they should have cost half to a quarter what they did for the target demo they are after.

2023 is just a weird year for movies in theatres.

The Flash and The Marvels maybe the biggest bombs of all time.

Oppenheimer making almost 1B$. And Barbie and Super Mario Bros even more.

Mission Impossible which should have been one of the biggest events of the year barely breaking even.

It just doesn't make any sense this year.

I did not renew my AMC+ subscription and it canceled out yesterday. The annual renewal was more than I was willing to pay for, so I will come back to it, maybe, after the new year.

Aquaman 2 tickets are on sale, so may snag mine in Dolby Cinema for next month.

Oppenheimer 4K disc was epic - demo-worthy.

Said I was not going to view but added to my GF queue a couple weeks back.

Did you buy Blue Beetle? Some pretty stunning pictures and immersive sound in places. May add when on sale.

Almost forgot, I just snagged my tickets for The Abyss in Dolby Cinema on December 6th. Never seen it on the big screen, so this should be cool.

I"m not sure what an AMC sub costs (do they only allow an annual sub?) but it seems like the tickets you already bought and want to buy would pay for it. Regal allows monthly payment, at least after the first year is over.

No, AMC A-List membership is monthly. I wish it was a yearly thing, I'd pay for the whole thing upfront. But yeah, one ticket at one of their IMAX or Dolby Cinema screens basically pays for the month.

Before I head out the door on another trip to St. Louis, I wanted to take this moment to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

When you consider all that you have to be thankful for, it might just surprise you when you realize how blessed you really are. That's how I feel, anyway, and I hope that you feel the same. There is so much to be grateful for and that most certainly includes the time spent here with all of you fine folk.
