because that will never work. Movie industry is different from music industry.

Taylor swift concert tickets where going from 300-5k each https://nypost.com/2023/03/15/how-mu...-tour-kickoff/ she did not become a billionaire https://www.forbes.com/profile/taylo...20performances. because of Spotify or itunes. she earned that money from tickets and merchandise and the music you listen on a daily basis the pennies she got from itunes or the fractions of a cent from Spotify is nothing but advertisements you pay for.

Now for Movies the studios spent possibly hundreds of millions to make the film, they will make a chunk back from theaters but once that is done money comes in from people that buy a copyof the film (physical or digital) or that rent it (i.e. Netflix pays to have it available on their site for as long as it is there). If Alchev (just because he says he buys digital) can go with 20 of his friends they each put in 1$ and DL from DRMfreefilms.com how will the studios make enough money to keep on making films?

I'm sure the Abyss looked good, and the 4k will be vastly superior the DVD and the preferred version to watch. Just, from the image I showed, and for Cameron's penchant for digital look, it sadly won't look as good as it could have. I think the unmolested image Titanic image that I showed above is much nicer than the one with edge enhancement and DNR.

While some people on the forums are hyperbolic, I think their criticisms are valid. Those pointing out the problems aren't saying the final product is bad by any means.

If the owner decides to pull the content not only is it legal for them to do so but it would be illegal for them to do other wise.

If the provider decides they will save some money by removing content that is not popular it is not illegal for them to pull it for that reason

If the provider decides to close down the service (like Target ticket) or close down (like cinema now, it is legal for them to do so.

If the service provider decides you need to pay a monthly subscription to have access to the content you bought, there is nothing illegal there

If the service provider decides you need to pay every time you access content you bought, there is nothing illegal there either.

....
That's why I said right now it isn't illegal and I don't see the law changing any time soon.

Forget it, I double checked and it’s just Blu-ray with only the first getting a single 4K release.

I have gone from 50% to 5%!

OT POST: New office PC case

[Show spoiler]
I have used mobile racks in my PC’s for many years. The main purpose - to try software on a test disk that is a clone of my main disk. On most mid-tower cases trying to use 2 mobile racks is a pain. I wanted to reduce the external cases I was using so a search was made for a case with at least four 5.25" slots and one 3.5" slot. Found and procured a Inwin Development 175240 In-Win Server Pl052 case here.

It allowed me to install both Blu-ray drives, two Kingwin KF-811-BK mobile racks and a 3.5 Inch USB 2.0 Floppy Drive Front Panel. I moded and added two power switches to the USB panel. I can hot swap the secondary mobile rack and switch off the internal 2TB HHD if I use the “test disk”. The internal 2TB HHD is a “shared drive” and DLNA server for temp video files.

The negative - this is a big case, my motherboard is full size ATX. As shown = heavy.

I didn't repost the pics because I got lazy but the artwork for the UK imports of Se7en on 4K disc look exquisite. Pricey, but I had to pause. Zavvi is has those up for pre-order.

Tonight we get the digital 4K versions of Aliens, The Abyss, and True Lies.

There will be a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S2 4K non-steelbook edition being released next week for $10-$15 cheaper than what was released last week.

Looking forward to SNW season 2. The show is a return to form for Trek in my opinion.

True Lies & The Abyss are out on Vudu so...

I watched these this afternoon with a friend. All I am going to say is I was disappointed. What happened to all the film grain? DNR'd to death and the color grading is lousy. I thought these were restored by Lowry Digital for Fox back in 2011 and those are the masters that were making the rounds on streaming and digital; and it is the source of the Spanish bootleg of True Lies. Why didn't they release those? Those looked perfectly good. It sounds like James Cameron took those and applied a ton of DNR and changed the colors a bunch. Too bad. I will probably end up not getting these when they come out on Blu-ray. The bootleg Blu-ray I have of True Lies looks better and there is a fan-edit of The Abyss: Special Edition that is perfectly good.

I mean people have been waiting years for these and Cameron took a massive ****.

You are commenting on not yet released discs basing on your experience on the streaming version? SMH.

What reason is there to believe the discs won't also have DNR and edge enhancement? My response to seeing the digital version caps is to buy the Spanish bootleg finally.

I don't usually post my specific purchases in this thread, but I was very happy that this got a physical release which I preordered, and now I finally have it in hand:

I was wondering if film grain reduction systems (such as DNR) make films easier to code (i. e. lower minimum required data rate for the video) to make streaming available to more potential customers in rural areas with limited capacity internet connections.

It does but it's highly unlikely that that's the reason for the change here, since there has never been an example of this.

What the Cameron 4k discs do show is why automatic "upgrades" on digital aren't always a good thing, as has been said before.

How can a disc that hasn’t released yet be condemned? We don’t know until March, yet many have already made their mind up that it (True Lies) stinks.

Because the issues with the stream have little to do with the lower bandwidth of streaming and all to do with the digital tinkering that Cameron likes to engage with. That tinkering will be on the disc also. I am 99% sure of this.
