When the sock is full, unravel it from the posts of the stands and make sure the sand is packed well in the tube, you'll probably have to add more. Repeat until the stands are full and well packed. Then tie the top into a knot and attach the top plate, it creates an easy way to remove it if you need to and the sand doesn't get everywhere.
Very good ideas guys, thanks. I have one more question though. The stands have 2 tubes, should I fill both tubes are would the one in the front suffice? I have my speaker wire run down the rear tube so I wasn't going to fill that one.

I also just read an interesting article about a test done using rice as a alternate filler. They said it worked well.

BTW, I just checked the home depot site and they have what is called "Crystal Sand." and it's used primarily for pool filtration systems. It may be clean and dry so I may check that out next time I go out for something.
since you have an Onkyo, get an Integra 40.2 AVR when you get the chance. very nice receiver.

just fill the front tube. Yes, lead shot is a very commonly used material for mass loading.

Sucks they didn't have quakehold, perhaps you should have looked for Hurricane Stronghold

Im sure that rice could do fine, but you want something that wont rot or breakdown.

I received my RC-50s and am just blown away. I know these still need to be broken in but, man, these speakers are so awesome. The weight and construction speaks quality. I am coming from Polk Audio Monitor 60s and those speakers do not even come close.

I can't wait to see how these speakers improve when they break in, but even if this is the best it gets, I am still very please. Ignorance is bliss. I can't wait to finish this off with an RC-LCR and some RC-Rs.

Yea, your right about that Steve, and I think that rice could draw bugs as well.
I think I will make a trip to Home Depot tomorrow and get a bag of that sand. It's basically Silica sand, which is what some have suggested.

Thanks also for the recommendation on that Intregra receiver. I'll write that down so when I'm ready for one I can look into it.

Just wait till they are broken in, they will sound amazing. My RC-10's and RC-LCR both really opened up nicely about 80 to 90 hrs in. I noticed some real change after the 50, but I noticed as it got close to 90 they opened up a bit more. You aint seen nothin yet.....

Haha Miker,

I will definitely take your word for it.

After reading all the talk on this forums and review, I was still a bit skeptical of how good these will sound. I was worried that Energy is a "budget" system but I am completely wrong and I take back everything I doubted about them. These speakers are definitely worth their full asking price and more. I am just glad I got them at such a steep discount. I can not wait to get their whole system.

One step closer to having a great system.

Yea, I have to say I had a little reservation about trying these at first, but after hearing them for myself I was hooked. The fact that they are a linear sounding speaker provides for wonderful detail, and the balance of frequencies across the spectrum without one frequency dominating over the others just gives a nice listening experience without being harsh to the ear over long listening periods. I can listen to these all day long.

I'm jealous, but I'm truly happy with my RC-10's. I haven't read, but you do have the RC-LCR too right?

There is often a misconception that Energy speakers need to be lumped into the category of "almost" PSB, Paradigms and B&W speakers. In Fact, recently a few of the members on this site have heard the new Energy CF/CB line and were really impressed with their performace even against more expensive speakers like Paradigm and B&W.

A friend of mine has Polk RTi A7s and couldn't believe that aside from the bass, my C-300s I used to have played to the level of his $1500 speakers, and mine were only $600 speakers.

The one thing about this site, and I love this site, is that someone sees a speaker priced in the level of the Polks and says, OH, it must be like a Polk speaker. NO, its Energys way of taking market share, and capturing a market segment that they used to not play in.

The speakers that you have would be comparable to the Paradigm Studio 60s and B&W CM8s. You got a steal of a price. Congrats.

Oh, so your going to pull the trigger on the Integra. I know you've been back and forth on 2 or 3 for a while now. I'm anxious for you Steve. Can't wait to see it in your gallery. If you say it will work well with the Energy's I believe you. You have never steered me wrong...

MaCruz,

No, I do not have the RC-LCR just yet. I will be PCSing to a new base soon so I will wait until I get a place of my own before I get a full 5.1 system. Currently running 2.1 with a BIC F-12.

I was drooling over the LCR even before I got the RC-50s due to all the great things said about them. Now, listening to the 50s, I am definitely really dreaming and wanting to get the LCR.

I am going to play the market and keep an eye out on the LCR because I don currently have room or a need for one just yet. I do not want to wait too long before all the new stock is gone but I also want to wait a little bit to see if the LCR goes down in market place any. I suspect, though, that I will pull the trigger very soon and just hold onto it for dear life until I can actually enjoy it.

Callas,

I initially bought these speakers as an interim set before I finally purchase my ideal Axiom Audio speakers. I figure what harm could be done to try out higher end Energy after spending some time with the Energy Take 5 Classics. I am definitely an Energy fan now. The 50s are such a high quality speaker in terms of construction, in my opinion. Granted, I have never really own any high quality speakers but I just can not believe the quality of the speakers for $275 a piece.

I am glad these speakers are in the good company of the Studio 60s, B&W and CM8s. I know Axiom's second to top of the line M60s are comparable to the Studio 60s and that their top of the line M80s are comparable to Studio 100s. The M60s themselves cost $1100 a pair and the M80s come in close to $1400. I am glad I got M60s/Studio 60s for only $550. Making out like a bandit!

I will take and post some pictures soon

The RC-50 use to retail at 1800$ in the US so it's way up there, you have gotten at least 65% off the retail price.

MaCruz and Miker,

How was the improvement of the RC-LCR compared to what you had before? I think you two mentioned you just recently got it.

Miker, how was the change from when you first got it to after 100 hours and could you try to describe the sound?
