I hate when articles like this report on absurdly priced UNSOLD ebay listings. It just gives the people the general impression that things have a larger value on the secondary market than they actually do.

People can list things for any absurd price on ebay that they like. It doesn't mean it will sell.

I also don't see why Best Buy getting out of the disc business suddenly, inherently makes previous Steelbook releases from years ago, which were already discontinued well ahead of Best Buy's decision to stop selling discs, more valuable than they would have been anyway.

Have a great new year’s Eve and day folks. I don’t drink, so a quiet one for me. Roast Beef and Yorkshire puddings tomorrow with family and a football match to attend.

Hopefully time to watch one of my 4K purchases in the evening.

I’m thinking Babylon or Bad Times At The El Royale.

Same to you and yours. Babylon is quite a bit better for me, albeit somewhat over the top at times.

After introducing a few small tastes over the last couple of years, I decided this year to go all out and show my family what a full blown Christmas was like from my youth (minus the midnight mass).
Full sized tree with plenty of presents... in addition to my usual killer turkey and stuffing, I made a tonne of sides....
New Years is about ordering in and relaxing... I'm the only one in the house that drinks and I'll be well pickled by the countdown...LOL..
We have stuffed cannoli's from my son's favourite Italian restaurant, soup dumplings from my favourite China town dive, Sweet and sour chicken balls from another place, a bunch of vegetarian options from wife's favourite place and a couple of pies from a local pie shop...
My son is in charge of the charcuterie and cheese boards and I've trained him well so everything will be in my favourite style... which is simply LOTS!!

I hope everyone is with loved ones tonight and has someone to kiss at midnight... hold 'em tight tonight...I pray that I'm wrong, but I despair for the year coming...

Good luck against Preston (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're a Sunderland fan).

A very Happy New Year to you, and to everybody else here too.

With ya totally here. ebay is a terrible place to gauge the value of something. Everything looks insanely overpriced on eBay. Just peruse the 4K discs for sale.... yeah, good luck, LOL.

Now searching through completed auctions is where you'll get some valid data for what items are truly selling for. Still, most sellers on eBay are trying to hit home runs and the items never sell. But to the casual browsing customer, they will get the wrong ideas in their head for what discs cost.

As for BB and steelbooks? Ive bought some when they came out but I wont get tangled up in bidding wars or overpaying for them on the used market. If I cant get it at a reasonable price then I just dont buy it. I like steelbooks but they arent the end all either.

Walmart is taking over the Steelbook exclusives and sales won’t stop, they will swell over to Barnes and Nobles, Walmart , Target, VStock and such. We will have to use boutique shops more and when physical media does stop it won’t be due to low demand. It will be an agenda driven green dictatorship that says “STREAM!!!” If you don’t like it you will LUMP IT! and by the way, prices for catalogue movies and television shows is now a monthly bill equivalent to cable bills which we financially collapsed and new release viewings in home will cost the same amount as a 4 person trip to a theater….ha ha hhaaaaa ha!

Removed my center channel again. Too difficult to accommodate in a non-projection setup. This time I not only disabled it in the AVR, but physically removed it, brought the shelf farther down and put the UHD player in the speaker's place. The phantom center is better than having the center that low. Also allows me to use the buttons on the bottom of the TV again.

The issue is that most companies want the default settings to be for the big box store and most people don't try and fix that disgustingness because they are assuming the default should be the best settings.

Added a few more titles in the last week of the year:

Overall the lightest buying year for me in a while. I only added 34 titles to my collection in 2023. But my son graduated High School and started college so a lot more expenses this past year. Hopefully I can get my numbers to a more respectable level this year .

We watched LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND as our new year's day feature and it made me glad that I haven't yet headed my daughter's demand that I cancel our NETFLIX subscription..LOL..
As a fan of Shyamalan, this was right up my alley and didn't dissapoint. In fact this was better than most of his output.

I bring it up here in this thread as I don't think I've ever seen a movie with a more overt endorsement of physical media as a central plot point... the irony of this title perhaps NOT getting a physical release is mind blowing...
