No, streaming subscriptions seem to be on life support though. Still no profit, relying on adverts and cutting their budgets, along with more, cheaper reality tv and gimmicks like interactive tv/ads.

I know where I I’m putting my money for the next decade.

Streaming losses continue. It has to be money laundering right ?

What kind of business forecasts losing 2 Billion this year and people are like "sounds good to me"

It has to be organized crime there's just no other explanation for it.

I suppose because all the streamers are conglomerates with other income sources which can shield the streaming losses, although you can't do that forever.

This comes to the same conclusion we've been saying: streaming is good if you don't care what you watch.

Rocky foundations, not just for the industry but for customers.

Disc is king for me.

Absolutely. I rarely watch anything on Amazon Prime, just a few of the shows and occasionally a movie pops up, but them adding commercials to it and asking for MORE money is absolutely insane.

For streaming services, we only have Netflix (the wife wants it). We only have Prime Video because we get prime for the shipping, but I can absolutely see the writing on the wall for some of these streaming services, it's just becoming cable TV all over again.

You need all of these streaming services to compliment each other, which to cut costs include commercials (unless you want to pay eveb more), with unpredicatable programming, titles that come and go, it's just not for me.

Big changes to streaming in 2024.

https://www.techradar.com/streaming/...hanges-in-2024

"Streaming services are heading for a major shake-up in 2024, according to The Financial Times. While Netflix is making money, most other streamers aren't – and with losses of more than 5 billion dollars in the last year alone, Netflix's rivals are looking at cost-cutting, consolidation and maybe even exiting the streaming market altogether."

"The FT spoke to Rich Greenfield, an analyst at LightShed Partners, who says that the industry is in a state of "complete and utter panic". With cord-cutting accelerating, TV advertising revenues falling and the cost of showing sports increasing "everything is going wrong that can go wrong". Increasing borrowing costs are a huge issue too: many streamers are carrying serious amounts of debt that is becoming even more expensive to service."

Glad it's not my money being lost .... geez. I wish I knew the guy who was signing these plans ... " we are going to lose 5 billion sir" "sounds good, let's go!"

I wish Netflix wasn't in such a good position, though. A monopoly wouldn't be a good thing. It does seem to be solely first mover advantage too, again with people not caring what they watch that much. Since they have Netflix that's the default.

Seeing more and more trash tv, the stuff that is free on broadcast. You can only fool people so long.

I don't have 2 hours to watch that video but I can answer that question now and that would be no, physical media is not dead. In fact, I think we're going to see a resurgence in sales this year. People are tired of the streaming shuffle. Much easier to just buy what you want on disc rather than having to track down what you want to watch across 10+ streaming services.

Well, I placed my Disney Movie Club order. 11 movies for $177.39 which breaks down to about $16.13 per movie. Not bad at all. That 60% discount makes a big difference. Added the below to my collection:

No major new streaming hardware at CES 2024. Some thought Nvidia may have a new piece but it was a no show. IMO, all we will see is some tweaks from Apple and Roku.

Some folks just can not grasp the fact that as long as there is no change in the specs (streaming and disc) there is no need for new hardware. Some believe there could be new UHD Blu-ray players based on the latest MediaTek Pentonic SoC.

I am enjoying my UHD Blu-ray disc in a new indirect way via the Zidoo UHD5000 (here). It does a better job, via Dolby VS10, of HDR → SDR than my Oppo UDP-203 and Sony UBP-X1000 players.

Good haul, going to watch The Menu this weekend.

Only three weeks into new year, but of the 12 films I have seen (own) so far, MI7 still the best.

Not saying you're wrong, but it baffles me that people wouldn't care what they watch.
Has it really become this bad? Just something to pass the time while being on their phone or doing other stuff. Unbelievable.

It's probably an exaggeration, but I'm not sure what would explain Netflix's dominance over the other streamers. Is it really that much better?

Did you see the other article I posted? Tik Tok's and Instagram's rise in dominance is monstrous and that's the definition of watching what's given to you with no thought, albeit catered to you as well.

Quite right. I'd rather spend those 2 hours watching a good movie on a disc instead. For every article I come across about the so-called "death" of physical media, I can just as easily find articles claiming the exact opposite.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. I've come across one or two people playing on their phones while they're sat in the cinema instead of watching the film they have presumably paid to go in and see.
