I am considering buying this incredible offer for 100 (digital) movies from Columbia Pictures for $100. Some of the titles are 4K and most are just HD, but for $1 a title that's still pretty impressive.

https://www.vudu.com/content/browse/...Bundle/2880846

https://www.blu-ray.com/digital/Colu...Digital/64883/

This offer is likely available at other digital store fronts, too.

You certainly can't rent a movie for a buck, so even if you see digital purchases as nothing but a rental of unknown duration it is still quite the deal.

I only have about 20 of these in my digital collection from redeeming the digital codes that came with my discs, so that means I could add 80 titles to my digital collection for what amounts to just $1.25 each.

Some of these movies I do not have on disc at all, but my real reason for considering purchasing this bundle is for my friends and family whom I allow access to my digital collection. It would give them a lot more titles to choose from and it would cost me very little to provide it.

I think this offer ends on Monday. I'm kinda surprised that 'ol alchav hasn't been promoting this offer; it feels weird for me to be the one doing it. I have yet to buy any movies this year and for my first purchase to be digital feels even stranger. I must be or something.

You should immediately order 100 Blu-ray discs so you feel better about your digital purchase.

Vilya you're not Sick, this is a great deal but not for close minded Disc People. I have most of these Movies in my Digital Collection, so I didn't pay much attention. You do have people like Penguin all upset, but a Digital Collection is The Future!

Tell that to the studios, they moved on years ago. Single digit growth and you think it’s the future?

You are comedy Gold, Alchav.

Going to watch "A Haunting In Venice" and "Gran Turismo" tonight. Anyone have these and can comment on the quality? "Gran Turismo" I think I rented a few months back through Apple and didn't really pay much attention to it. Thanks.

Default Physical media should in theory increase in price a little

I just checked the Post Office website and prices went up for all shipping services including media mail. The price of merchandise and physical media is going to see an increase now since the so called free shipping that many websites offer, many places just raise the price of the merchandise to pay for the so called free shipping. Hopefully Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and other places that offer physical optical discs will use media mail for both new releases and returns of defective or damaged media in order to keep prices down. Media mail can sometimes take only one day in the same state to be delivered but many times media mail takes up to 3 days longer to arrive when compared to USPS Ground Advantage. For new movie releases and new game releases websites like Amazon or Best Buy could just ship the new release 3-7 days early by media mail and then the package would arrive around release date (sometimes one day before release date, sometimes on release date, and sometimes 1+ day after release date).

I am looking at the new prices online and to ship USPS Ground Advantage with only 1 oz the new price is $5.45. Versus media mail is only $4.13 to ship up to 1 pound (16 oz). When the package is 1 pound 1 oz (17 oz total), Media Mail is only $4.87 versus USPS Ground Advantage being $13.60. If one wants to ship 70 pounds of media it is only going to cost $55.82 by media mail, versus 70 pounds costs $146.15 using USPS Ground Advantage, $170.70 by Priority mail, and $534.65 by 2-day Priority Mail Express. So, any book, optical media like games and movies there is a big savings for places like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and others if they use media mail for both deliveries and for return merchandise. The AI computer interface just flags which items are media and which is not media and either ships things by media mail or USPS Ground Advantage. Also according to online info UPS and Fed Ex are going to increase their rates around 5.9% in 2024 (The increase in prices also helps pay for the human delivery employees yearly salary increase, and all hard-working people deserve a salary increase). When its not media UPS and Fed Ex are usually cheaper than the United States Post Office on heavier items. Plus with freight service packages between 70 to 150+ pounds is possible. Commercial freight trucks can do around 45,000-50,000 pounds and that is what some retail stores and warehouses use since its cheaper then shipping a lot of small packages, etc. Car dealers that sell new cars load up the trucks with as many cars and trucks as they can.

Shipping rates have increased every year but I've never seen physical media prices raise at the same rate and there is no reason to think that they will this time.

I can't help thinking that if digital purchases were doing as amazing as you think they are they wouldn't have to entice people with 100 movies for $100. Movie collections of all kinds are on the decline, subscriptions are far more popular.

And with that being the case digital collections are especially risky. If Vudu, Amazon, Google, Apple, or any other digital providers pull support your entire digital collection could be lost. If studios stop supporting physical media all of our physical collections will still be playable.

Gran Turismo is amazing. By far the best-looking release of last year, in my opinion. I liked the movie, too.

You do know that it's a File on a Server, and can be put on any Storage Devise. You mentioned four Providers Vudu, Amazon, Google, and Apple, but if they can't support storing your Files I'm sure for a price your ISP can!

Can you download any of it in 4K ?

Of course not. Kind of limits your any device theory.

As for and ISP storing my files ? You mean some type of cloud storage ? How are you getting copyrighted material into these cloud storage I am curious now. It sounds like a bad plan.

I was actually very tempted by this as well. But I spent my movie budget for the month on my physical haul so thankfully it will remain only a temptation.

Can't comment on the disc quality because we watched it on Hulu, but I found A Haunting in Venice disappointing. All the ingredients were right and I did it enjoy it, but I never thought it clicked the way it should have considering the talent involved.

Saw Poor Things and The Zone of Interest last week. Two of the best films of the year (2023) and absolutely worth seeing in my opinion. This goes especially to veritas who asked about good films coming out. Seeing Holdovers today.

All three of the films you mentioned are high on my priority list for discs in 2024.

Watched Venice via BD, nice transfer. Lots of low and high angle shots. An OK watch, not a purchase for us.
