I don't think it's a big deal that people are emphasizing their right to comment that they won't be buying the release because FMttM isn't included, or whatever other reasons they may have. For the most part, no one's being toxic about it that I can see, or lynching GKids (as we all recognize that they're generally one of the better and more respected companies in the West). It's important to have voices and feedback be heard, even if there's little that can be done about it, just to remind companies in general to do all they can, whenever they can, to fight for music rights or home video versions or whatever else (though we all acknowledge the exorbitant price likely demanded for FMttM in this instance).

If you guys don't care, great, but respect that other people do, and that they have every right to discuss their intent to look into alternate releases, no? The discussion's only been going on for a day or so at this point.

Same here. My main gripe with importing blurays is whenever the product is much bigger than a standard bluray case like an Alltheanime ultimate edition, it is likely US customs will rip off the plastic shrinkwrap and inspect the inside. That triggers my OCD so much.

Okay, well no one's making you buy it, spend your money how you like, idc, but it's either this or nothing (by which I mean, not including fmttm - not other editions of this release)
If billion dollar companies like Netflix can't afford the rights to it, no one ever can. Maybe in the future if the music license holders are feeling generous and loosen their grasp, maybe we will get a release featuring it, but for the foreseeable future that's not happening. But hey, I'd love to be proven wrong.

but it is complete
Not if you don't know Japanese it isn't. Not including any English is less complete to me than just missing a song that has no impact on my comprehension of what I'm watching.

Quote:
Anyone buying the GKids version is buying an incomplete edited version AND paying more for it. THAT to me is hilarious
Again, I'd rather pay for something I can still watch and enjoy than something I can't even understand.

don't care now on what many claim is such an important show?
It's not that I don't care, of course I'd love for it to be complete and have the song included. It's just not as important to me as it is to others it seems. It's just a song that goes over the credits and plays in the background of a few scenes. The way some of you are going on about it you'd think half the episodes had been cut out or something.

Quote:
at the very least they could have payed to use it there. The "it's too expensive" should be translated to "we wouldn't make as much money"
Let's say, to simplify things, each set cost $300. So far there are 7500 total. That's $2,250,000 they make off that. Not all of that is profit though, as some of that is eaten up by manufacturing and other costs. If they licensed that song for however ungodly amounts of money it costs, on top of already licensing the anime, there's just no way they'd make enough money to make any of that worth it. Just be realistic about this.

Quote:
it's not like a cheaper version isn't coming out, by skipping this and buying the Japanese version WITH the songs I still have $140 left over to buy the standard release when it goes on sale at retail (or used later)
Okay, do that then. It's your money. But it seems to me then that the Jp blu-ray isn't complete either if you still need to buy this(the english release, not the UE)

I wasn't talking about people complaining about the UE, I was talking about people complaining about the missing song. I'm happy with just the English release, but you need to buy both. Seems like you're the one wasting money to me.

It should be no surprise that a ton of people were hyped up for this release. I mean, it's what this/these threads have mostly been on about for the past year. I think some of the complaints are valid.

No FMTTM is going to upset purist and people attached to that ending. No fault to them, but there's nothing that can be done for it. I do think there's no reason to keep going on about it though, and certainly no reason to make conspiracies that they cheapen out or could have done better. Nothing wrong with importing another edition to get the version you want, if it really matters that much to you.

The price is going to hold back a lot of people, myself included, because we either can't afford it or can't justify the cost for the product. No fault to us either, but I do hope Gkids will offer a retail collector's edition for us.

Expressing disappointment about the UE selling out is also valid. It sold out within a day. Many people did not know about it yet, wanted to wait to see what the other editions would be like before they made a choice, or were waiting for their next paycheck since they would be charged immediately. 5,000 was obviously not enough. Gkids could rectify this by dropping the limited number like Shout did with the Friday the 13th set and keeping in check with the demand. I don't think they were expecting to sell out so soon.

Does the standard boxset of these Japanese blu-rays have the correct disc now?

And crap, I wish I knew about this site when I purchased the last two seasons of agents of shield on Blu-ray. I could of saved $20 a pop buying from here. Japan was the only country that released them and I had to pay over $100 for each through Amazon.

I WAS complaining about the song.
I don't NEED to buy both (I said I already have the ADV dvds) I said for less money I CAN if I ever want to, compared to people buying this for $300. That's why it's hilarious

How does the quality of Mandarake inventory compare to Japanese Ebay sellers? If I lived in Japan, I would love to visit the secondhand stores and inspect the items myself.

The 2015 JP bluray came with a 170 page booklet I believe. What do you mean by "used = brand new"?

I guess I'm insane because I thought “Fly Me to the Moon” would be there since the physical BD editions cover only small "compartmentalized" parts of the world and not 190 countries. AFAIK:
- Australia + New Zealand (?)
- Benelux + France + Switzerland (Dybex)
- Germany (LEONINE Anime)
- Hong Kong (?)
- Italy (Dynit)
- South Korea (Mirage Entertainment)
- Spain (Selecta Visión)
- UK (Anime Limited)
- USA + Canada (GKids)

That's only fifteen countries!

So far so good for me, they have grades for all the items. For the Eva set for example

"Condition Disc:A description etc.: A"

so the discs are all perfect and so is the packaging etc. (they will say if something is missing, like the Obi for example).

Yeah it's the whole original set and all it includes in the original packaging so the book is there.

Most used stuff comes from collectors who took really, really good care of their stuff (or in Mandrake's case a lot of stuff were storefront items so never even opened) so other than the packaging having been opened, you can't tell the difference between something used and brand new, so save your money and buy the cheaper "used" version

Ah yeah, fair enough. I didn't watch it on Netflix, I watched it years ago like in the late '00s or something, so it's been a while for me tbh, so my memory of the details is a little fuzzy.
I understand if people feel that way, that's cool

Just for me personally, it's not huge

Interesting, I wonder how it would work on a disc with multiple episodes, when I get it I'm def gonna test this out before buying but if it works, I may end up getting the JP copy and just doing a disc swap in the packaging.

One important difference though... (limited litho nonwithstanding) the F 13 set was a standalone limited release with no other versions. Raising the print run, then eliminating the limit altogether made sense. There was no other way to meet the demand.

However with GKIDS and NGE, there will be other versions besides the Ultimate set available to meet overall demand. They can keep the Ultimate to its limited run, there likely will be a lower tier limited version (no swag but still include the dual sets), then a standard unlimited release with the 'official' set only.
