Wow, quite sad almost no one is requesting thing I always supposed everyone else wanted . The Cranes are Flying, Taste of Cherry, L'Avventura and Le Samourai are only mentioned a few times. Brazil and Kurosawa seem to be the most wanted.

It's hard to read the Criterion barometer lately...they're liable to do just about anything...

I do enjoy Bob Dylan to a certain degree, despite my poseur comments. I just feel that he is overrated and put upon a pedestal, when there were other artists who were just as good, and in many cases, better, who are overlooked because of Bob.

James Taylor is ok, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of him. Carol King, however, is a pretty fantastic songwriter. I'd rank Neil Diamond up there too.

Great picks for Monkees songs! Riu Chiu is a bit unique, as on the actual recorded version, Davy didn't participate, Chip Douglas of The Turtles did. Davy was only on the TV show version.
And Flo and Eddy (also of The Turtles) worked with Frank Zappa, who also worked with and followed The Monkees...

Criterion would save themselves a lot of bother by just doing a Facebook poll.

Ya got me to check B & N price online. $19.99 from their website plus a 20% off code making it $17.29 (NYS tax) with free shipping. $10 cheaper than doing it in store. I had to jump on that, as it will likely go up in price at one point. Now I just have to be patient with Citizen Kane...
Damn. Good deal. I jumped all over it at $24.99. I wish I could see 1 week into the future, would have saved myself $5.

What's sad is, after waiting so long to finally get the "Full Disclosure Edition" the first thing I did when this arrived was....to pop in the Theatrical version.

It's not "due to ship" until March 8 for some reason...they must have run low on stock. No biggie...once they ship it, I'll get it in one to three days. After nabbing The Godfather today for $27...I can certainly wait.

Ahhhh...tomorrow morning coffee with "All Quiet on the Western Front" while the kids and wife sleep. I've never seen it before, but have obviously heard a lot of great things about it.

Just to be unfairly snarky, James Taylor's greatest contribution to music was inspiring (along with Patti Harrison) The Beatles' "Something." I'm also not a fan of Judy Collins' more mannered or operatic style.

Dylan is simultaneously over- and underrated (just like the Beatles, Star Wars or any "canonized" pop culture). Carol King and Neil Diamond are great crossover stories from the Tin Pan Alley/Brill Building era.

Thanks for the Monkees trivia. Didn't know that! Since I'm no Davy fan, I take that as good news -- with him it'd have been schmaltzy Then again, when I saw them at the Beacon Theatre last year they were all in schmaltz mode.
James Taylor did more than that, he also allowed for this: http://www.last.fm/music/Christopher..._/Highway+Toes - Nigel Tufnel does a dead on parody of him, and apparently Taylor took it in stride, as he was in the audience one night.

Not all of Judy's songs are stellar, although I enjoy a lot of it, as she did a mixture of styles, but she did play a huge part into getting Leonard Cohen noticed, and she's the reason why we have the song Suite Judy Blue Eyes.

Don't feel bad, I also forgot all about Donovan, who many call "The Scottish Bob Dylan." Like I said, I do enjoy Dylan, I just feel that there are other artists who are more deserving of praise, and who resonate with me more.

Davy is my least favourite. I'm a Peter gal myself. Rumour has it that it was his house Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Sometimes Young formed. He and Stills were pals in Greenwich Village, and were in Buffalo Fish, the precursor to Buffalo Springfield together.

I like your post and agree on the music front pretty completely. As to his hypocrisy, I've personally moved past that accusation and drawn the conclusion after lots of reading and listening that Dylan's basically a self-serving prick (so your comparison to a politician is an apt one, but at least Dylan has talent and has given something to society!). Despite that, he is still my favorite musician for his breadth and depth; I don't think any other musician has had more impact directly or indirectly on my tastes. That said, I have no problem who dislikes him or his music (unless they're doing it as poseurs)
I agree that he is talented, but again, Phil Ochs and Neil Young are definitely bigger influences on me.

The Left elected Dylan their messiah, but he never asked for it and resented it more than anything.

Dylan was not a hypocrite any more than he was a politician. He was doing his thing. Condemn him for all the songs he stole, if you need to condemn him.

Oh, if we are naming favorite Monkees songs, I go for Never Tell a Woman Yes. Also, their version of Angel Band is excellent.
The song stealing is why I consider him a hypocrite actually, and I just think he's a bit of an ass. I do enjoy quite a few of his songs, although I definitely prefer The Byrds cover of Spanish Harlem Incident. I just think Phil Ochs, was a much better writer.

I love The Mamas and the Papas, yet John Phillips isn't a man I like very much. Ditto for Jim Morrison. The Doors are great, also a bit overrated, but Jim was an ass.

Yep, not once, but twice. In addition to Head (see, we're getting back to the Criterion Collection in a roundabout way), he was a guest on their TV show. Zappa was a Monkees' fan:

Fun fact, apparently Frank asked Micky to be drummer for The Mothers of Invention once the Monkees disbanded in 1970, but Micky felt that he wasn't good enough for Frank.

Also, Mike Nesmith and his wife at the time, Phyllis, can be seen in A Day in the Life on the Beatles Anthology. John was also a fan. Peter Tork also plays the banjo on George Harrison's Wonderwall.

Criterion never released it on DVD, so it won't be an upgrade.....but I would LOVE it if they added it to the collection. It very much deserves a blu-ray!

+1000. I was more excited about the possibility of the Facebook picture yesterday being from one of the two Antonioni's than I was about the announcements themselves.

And I'm just going to laugh at this 'Dylan's a poser' talk with a 'wtf mate?' and just pop in Highway 61 Revisited...I do love me some Bob Dylan, man.

I worked bass-ackwards rather successfully on that set Agent Orange. I went straight for the Interviews and Featurettes...which made me curious enough about Redux to finally watch that version after years of avoiding it entirely...then Hearts of Darkness for some perspective on the whole shebang...and after digesting all that backstory, waited another week or so, then watched the original theatrical cut in all its masterful dreamstate glory...

After that, try putting in Pleasures of the Harbour, I Ain't Marching Anymore, Rehearsals for Retirement, or Tape From California.

Forgot the Eisenstein films upgrade.

The BRD trilogy should be first on the list for them though. Letting it go out of stock and all.

Default Man who fell blu-ray

My original post got kind of lost around the annoucement
So i ask again

Just found a sealed copy at a local store for 50$.(i know this is about 10$ above list price but with the exchange rate i think that's ok)
The store had at least 2 other sealed copy's.
Now the question is should i buy these and sell them online???
I know this Blu is out of print but what are these sealed ones going for?

Thanx
