I wouldn't say that - 845 is pretty respectable. However you more than make up for it with your vast DVD / Blu-ray and 4K collection.

Honestly, she's the best woman in the world...I don't think she owns more than 3 pairs of shoes...or a handbag now that I think of it...lol..
As I've gotten older, I've learned to be less and less attached to material things... she's just always been that way...

For some reason people seem to think digital, streaming or otherwise isn’t a material thing. It absolutely is. It’s simply not being stored at your house, instead you are paying someone else to store it for you.

Yeah...I still have hundreds of discs... I just wouldn't be all that broken up about losing them again...

I believe most here would equate a material thing as something physical that you can have ownership of. We don't own the movie or songs on a physical device but we certainly own (disc, LP, tape, etc.). With digital you own nothing. If you believe otherwise then I suggest you read your TOS/EULA. And no matter what you read it can be changed at any time. And you agreed to that.

As you guys know...my bent is that after having bought so many titles on so many formats over the years, I'm not under any illusions that I own anything for the last time... aside from a few red herring examples, I'm not under the irrational (IMHO) fear that I won't always be able to get another copy of my most cherished titles like I always have been able to... always in better quality than the last time...

I'm not really clamouring to see SONG OF THE SOUTH again ( saw it theatrically) and I'm really doubtful that I won't always be able to access Gene Hackman using the n word...

I wonder if CDs would have kept more collectors than they lost if they had been packaged in stupid, oversized Blu-ray-like cases. There's some kind of point to this post.

I want CDs to come in album sized packages. I miss the large LP cover art both inside and out.

Lost count of the times I stared at Meatloaf’s Bat Out Of Hell album cover as a kid.
You can’t beat records for nostalgia. So tactile and browsing in record stores was different class.

I miss the packaging, but not the vinyl.

LPs are just too high maintenance and too fragile for me. One mistake, by you or someone else, and they're scratched rendering them unplayable.

In retrospect, I humorously (now) remember the incredible racket made when you accidentally dropped the tonearm with the volume still cranked up. I also recall the interesting sound when the needle skated across the album surface in an instant.

Back in the 90's and early 2000's, I used to spend a few days in London almost every year. No trip would be complete without a visit to the three main stores which were there at the time - HMV Megastore, Virgin Megastore (both on Oxford Street) and Tower Records (Piccadilly Circus). Honestly, I could spend all day in each of them. I'm assuming they probably had vinyl as well, but I was looking just at CD's. It goes without saying that my wallet always came out of the store much lighter than when it went in.

It's all about device integration, ease of accessibility, the everyday convenience and price, streaming has them all.

It's all about superior quality and having full control over what one watches for many of us.

Convenience and economy are far from being everything. I didn't buy an 85" TV to count streaming artifacts after all.

Device integration is easy with either, but one is never dependent upon the vagaries of the internet.

I’m all about the quality, streaming has none.

I guess we won't be needing those SD cards if streaming has it all.

You know I thought about it and overall I think they made the right decision with blu ray cases. Go to a thrift store and browse though cds and its hell to the point where I would pay a few dollars more just to have an easier time finding what I want. making them a bit smaller then dvd and easily identifiable is actually really helpful and even giving black cases to 4k is rather helpful for consumers.

As for the increase in storage its actually not as bad as you think for the average consumer. they increased the height that they take up compared to cds but if your storing them on a bookshelf then the space taken is pretty much the same. multi disc cd cases get wider much quicker which is a much more important space to occupy. like can you imagine how much a 40 disc cd case thats unstacked would take up compared to a 40 disc blu ray case. I think swapping most peoples collections from blu ray cases to jewel cases would actually take up more space unless people use customized shelving rather then book cases.

its really like having a room that can hold 50 people it doesn't matter if they are 6 foot or 4 foot the limiting axis are x and y with z being not much of a limit. Its the same with discs they made the z axis larger but most storage is concerned mostly with the x and y axis.

Like I was just thinking of it from a marketing and engineering point of view and I can see a lot of reasons for why media evolved from CD cases to what Blu ray cases are today.
