There is no technical reason with DVD/BD/UHD they can’t do that. After all, we already set the language, subtitle language, etc on the players. They should just let us watch the movie right away and then of we want to change something, we’ll choose from the setup menu.
I have some Blu-ray discs that do go straight to the movie without having to press play on the menu, only after a few logos and maybe one trailer prior at most. The Secret of N.I.M.H., Balto, AKIRA... Admittedly, I find those types of discs that do that a little sad for their lack of presentation, it makes them look neglected and just put together without care. However, I can understand if you may get especially annoyed with the particular discs where there are additional dropdown menus that need to be navigated before being able to play the actual movie, like when there are alternate cuts to choose from in the same disc, or the option to play an introductory video beforehand.

Is Disney a "streamer" or a company that does streaming? All of Us Strangers was a theatrical film that got BAFTA noms so the trajectory is concerning.

If I never had a problem flipping a laserdisc over (before there were side A>B automatic side switching players), or with swapping out the first laserdisc for the second laserdisc in order to finish watching any movie over 2 hours long, I certainly have no problem now with selecting "play" from a DVD or blu-ray menu.

As for the "Cinema is dead" comment, I do not think it was meant to be taken literally. It sounds like he is just unhappy with the overall selection of movies coming to the cinema.

I can sympathize somewhat; it can get old seeing a "part" number in so many of those upcoming titles. It is refreshing to see something altogether new and not just another installment attempting to cash-in on the previous installment's success.

Yeah, exactly. Although the selection was meant to be "blockbusters", it's sad how many of them are not original. But when original things come round, people don't watch them. Depressing state of affairs. At least Civil War looks promising and the people involved have a good track record...

I received these titles for my recent birthday:

and two intentional copies of .

I plan to give the second copy as a small thank you gift to my friend who drives me to St. Louis for my many long distance treatments. I put over 200 miles on his car each trip and a LOT of trips have been made since June 2021.

This doesn't even count CAV releases that only held 30 minutes per side.

If I had enough coffee I would cancel my Amazon pre-orders and get those AI abominations and some baby yoda and wanda vision goodness all in one go.

I really ..... need to look into that. It would be my 3rd or 4th Disney Movie club order but it's a good deal.

I am kinda fascinated to see them, especially True Lies. See if all the fuss is warranted.

I mentioned a few times I may have sold back my True Lies DVD. I'm fairly sure the remaster will be an improvement over that.

I still have my Aliens Blu Ray and my Abyss DVDs in case I want to see those ever again.

I don't know how to order these movies with the Disney Movie club yet but I've asked for some help in that thread. I wouldn't mind these being close to $10 - that's reallly fun ! Also wouldn't mind picking up the Mando and WandaVision sets or Luca for example. I'm a little behind on my Disney movies because one of my kids is into Marvel so we have Disney+ and of all the streaming services I honestly think D+ is the only one worth having.

I had no problem watching WandaVision and S1 of Loki on Disney+ but the Mando series was never capable of getting my interest for long. Maybe having it on Disc with the higher quality AV is what I need for that series.

The order I placed a few weeks ago had been sitting in my cart for months before I pulled the trigger. I had been saving my VIP one time 60% off coupon for 2 years. That's why I was able to place 2 60% off orders in one month.

Also, I think the BOGU 60% off sale ends on 2/19 so if you're going to do it you have about 3 days .

I just order from usual sources, wouldn’t know anything about Disney club.

It's a great deal if you can be bothered. I have an regular sources order but If I can do something better then I will try to look into it. True Lies and Abyss have already been on sale or normal UHD prices which I am happy and comfortable with.

Once I hit Super VIP I only place orders when they have a 60% off sale. According to my DMC dashboard I've saved $354.79 so far. And that's from just 4 orders placed during this membership. This is my 4th or 5th membership and I placed more orders under those. So the lifetime savings add up.

Granted, DMC regular prices are usually $10 or so higher than say Amazon, but it's still a significant savings. I got The Abyss 4K, Aliens 4K and True Lies 4K for $11.98 each. And I have lifetime free shipping with this membership so that's a great deal.

If there are any Looney Tunes fans here the WAC Collector's Choice Vol. 2 is only $12.99 on Amazon. Had to grab it at that price.

I also went to pre-order the Cutthroat Island 4K Steelbook from Wal Mart but it came to $43 with tax. I checked DiabolikDVD and they had the StudioCanal release for $29.99. That seemed much more reasonable so it's on it's way to me .

Strangely enough I have no problem in flipping discs. Perhaps it’s because I started my hobby with 8/16/35mm projectors.

No word of a lie... It was a CAV edition of Kevin Costner's atrocity THE POSTMAN that was the last straw in my first marriage...

Having to get up every 30 minutes to flip or change discs for that film's 9 hour runtime meant that I was an active participant in her's and my own torture.

My problem with laser discs is while they were more reliable they still had the quality of VHS or very close to it.

I only ever had a handful of LD - Star Wars "faces" editions, Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder, Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave.

Now I have copies of Star Wars and Delicate Sound of Thunder that I like better. I must still have the Home of the Brave on my NAS units but I haven't been playing "files" so much lately and the NAS units are all in storage. I've also watched Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave a LOT of times already. Most would say maybe too many times. It's brilliant for what it is (a concert video that was "faked" for the most part) but If I never see it again I think I'll be ok.

I had the pleasure of meeting Laurie Anderson and she was happy to sign my Nerve Bible (book she authored.) I told her I have to keep outdated tech to view her content and she replied "tell me about it" so I think she knows the struggle.

My attraction to LD came from my penchant to be something of an OAR fiend even in the days of 4:3 TVs...Even with me relegating most discs to storage outside of my HT, I still have those "faces" discs prominently displayed on the shelf along with the japanese import of TPM that my wife paid a mint for on one of my birthdays... in a year where I actually had a birthday.

Speaking of which...this is one of those years. I'll be celebrating my 13th birthday in a couple of days. She got me LEAF tickets....

I once calculated that it cost me less to fly all four of us to Florida and buy tckets to see them play there (along with an extra game ticket for my father in law) than a pair of nose bleeds costs here in Toronto.
