I have close to 1000 recordings of CBS, PBS and other programs. Have a list of all of them in paper form and PDF form. These can be played by the UHD Blu-ray players and the media players. The advantage of the media player, it remembers where I stopped if I could not complete a viewing of any given program. When viewing is completed it will be marked as “Viewed”. Of course I can do this as well on the printout.
If viewing is not completed and later returned to the media players will ask “Resume” or “Start Over”. The Blu-ray players do not do that. The Oppo does remember the directory from which the last file was played from but not the file its self. On the media players I can mark my directories as “Favorite” which makes getting to “\\DS420j\PBS-1-2\Video PBS Disk 1\MPEG-2\Desert Speaks” easier. ![]() |

As much as the internet has opened each of us up to conversations with others from far flung climbs, I often lament the fact that we can't all visit each other's caves and see things (literally) from each other's perspective.
It would probably go a long way towards smoothing over some of the misunderstandings... |

I can often complete the entire board when watching an episode of JEOPARDY....
..Yet I haven't a shithole's chance in hell of remembering what I had for dinner last night... ![]() |

there is a time when it might be impossible to find a new 4k player and it might be "difficult" to find a 4k player. But the issue with that argument is you can go to e-bay (and other places that have used stuff people are looking at getting rid of stuff) and find used VHS, LD, 8-track, phonographs.... it will never be truly difficult, at most it might just take a few days to get it to your home. IMO it will always be easier and cheaper to replace a 4k player than a home server that houses your 4k backups. Quote:
You want a craptacular fake 4k that fits a small collection in your pocket I want an amazing looking and sounding future with a collection that would make that impossible. |

I can understand if what some people are looking for is to not have to walk to the other end of the house where the films are located to watch a film in the room they are in at the time. I can understand if some find it easier to type in a full title compared to a well organized film collection. I can understand if some would rather click a "random selection" button instead of thinking for a second "what do I feel like watching right now". I can understand if for someone else it is being able to put 1000 films that are 10GB each in their pocket to bring them with them. We are all different and what we are looking for for next level is also different. |
