Sounds good. Thanks a lot for your help man. I'm sure I'll have a few more questions when I get back to the States and actually get a chance to hear some speakers in person. Just anxious to get back and buy some stuff! Bought a Pioneer 600M tv a couple of yrs ago so just need the audio side now for gaming and the blu rays.

Another question is Marantz SR1601 vs SR5005. Feature wise they both suffice. Only worry is 50wpc difference. Will it make too much of difference? With SR5005, I could go upto -12 / -13 db in music and -7 / -8 in movies.

Please gove your comments. Thanks !
Any suggestions??

The RC-50s should open up in the highs a little, remember the pairing of receiver/speakers will affect the sound, so if you want something a little more crisp, you may be better off with a Pioneer Elite VSX-33, it will add some brightness, that may be a sound you like a little more. before you but the Marantz 1601 let them break in some more on your friends 5005 and see if you like the way it sounds. your ears will be different, and your tastes will be different then everyones elses.

In terms of power, the 1601 @ 50 wpc and the 5005 @ 90 wpc will only produce about 1-3 extra dbs of sound, so its not that big of a deal, # of watts means less then quality of the watts.

I don't know how the 657 sounds personally, but typically Yamaha and Energy pair up pretty well. with only 2 channels the power on the Yamaha be pretty good.

Anyone know a sale going on for the cc10 center

Im would not recommed the Energy Entry Level Sub, for the Sub size, How big is the basement room?

As for the center channel they are hard to get at low prices.

For a good quality value sub, look @ amazon, they have the BIC F12 for $184

The CC-10 is hard to get on sale

Are you sure you got the CF-50 and not the CF-30?

The best deal I found on the cc-10 was $220 shipped from Vanns.
I got the eswc10 from electronics expo and it was defective. I have shipped it back and now I'm debating if I should give Energy a second chance or not. Personally, I would not bother with an 8inch because they don't get low enough and there is a rather small price difference between the 10inch models and the 8inch. Also, I don't think you will be happy with the power of an 8inch. If I was in your place I would most likely get the Klipsch SW-110 from newegg.com for $250 shipped. If price is the most important factor for you than you can't do better than the Bic F12 from amazon.com. One more option to consider is the Velodyne Impact 10 which can be purchased from electronics expo for around $215 shipped with the code BIGBEN.

Default Yamaha RX-V667

I got the Yamaha 667 set up with the Energy speakers and it sounds great. It's a huge improvement over the Sony STR-DH710. The speakers sound so much better and they are not even fully broken in yet. There is much more clarity and detail and the bass has improved as well. The FM tuner in the Yamaha is much better as well. The stations that were tuned ok with the Sony now sound completely clear and the one station that could not be tuned now can be and sounds good.

when I went from my Sony 710 to the 920, I experienced the same things. the 700 series are not very good at all, just wait until you get a Marantz, integra or upper-level onkyo

I considered waiting for the TX-NR609, you can preorder them from amazon for $500. I don't know if the sound would be better than the 667 but it would most likely have more power per channel. With the 667 I'm most likely getting 45W per channel when 5 are driven, the 609 would probably give something like 75W. I didn't want to buy the Onkyo before any reviews are out. The current 308, 508, 608 aren't exactly winners judging by all the short term failures and negative reviews by owners. However, the 609 may turn out to be a fantastic receiver.

I think the 608 uses a fan to help with the heat issue but they still fail left and right. Not to mention all the HDMI video issues people are having. I love the new look of the Onkyo but it seems that all the old fans are not happy with it.

I'm going to use the 710 to power Polk RM705 HT and for that purpose it does a pretty good job. That set up will replace my 10 year old Altec Lansing 5.1 as PC speakers.

Don't see any new 700 series coming out as of now. Regardless, this is too rich for my blood anyway, at this moment in time. What do you think of the M-282 amp? I will consider getting it if I decide that the power of the Yamaha is not enough.

umm, youll see them update the upper level receivers later in the year, with the reviews of the Onkyo 5008/ integra 50.2 and 40.2 pre-pro, im sure they r riding those coat tails for a little while

Yeah, the m-282 has been around for at least 5years now. Right now it's $180 but I may get lucky and find it for $150 in the near future. I'm also considering Emotiva but not at the current price.
