I think I can pretty much watch John Cusak in anything. Even if he's just going to the dentist. One of my faves. Dude also hasn't aged like in 20 years.

Just watched it. I enjoyed the movie especially for $19.99. My wife made fun of it but what the heck, what does she know??

How exactly do I differentiate the 3 disc version from the 4 disc version?

Thanks!
I think most stores might be sold out of the target exclusive. I went on line earlier to check store availability and there wasnt an option any longer. Looks like its only available on line now.

Also, if the slip is missing, the actual case says "2 disc", when it's actually the 4 disc. REALLY confusing!

LOL! I can imagine that reaction. Something like "oh awesome", then "wait, what?", and then the "oh awesome" again!

Kind of sounds like the movie itself

Technically speaking, what's printed on the cover insert and the slipcover for the Target exclusive may be construed as correct.

Digital copies do not count as a separate disc because their inclusion is limited to initial print runs, before it's withdrawn for later runs. Even though all retailers carry copies with three physical discs at this time, there will be only two discs in each case for future runs.

The Target exclusive slipcover is correct in that their edition does contain a third disc, i.e. the documentary. It has a separate SKU that distinguishes it from the regular two-disc edition that is stocked by everyone else. Usually, bonus discs do not count towards the tally because they have a very limited print run and included in select copies, but this is an exception because this edition is exclusive to Target.

The SKU on the actual case is not different. Mine had a sticker placed where the opening in the back of the slip cover was and it basically fell off when I took the cover off. If the slip is removed along with this sticker, you have a SKU of 043396292215 which is the 2 disc set, not the exclusive.

My 3-disc copy did not have a special sticker covering the bar code, so the SKU is the same as the regular 2-disc BD -- which would make sense seeing as they're the same price.

It would have been cool if it was a more "serious" film with more technology/sci-fi in it. It could have also been a double, maybe a trilogy if they did it right. It's all in the story line.
I think the humor is somewhat necessary.

Considering the subject matter, the movie could become depressing with the mass extinction of humanity.

Thumbs down

Wow. Rented this last night. What a godawful movie; had to stop watching it 2/3 of the way through because I couldn't take it anymore. Granted, they only had it on DVD and I was watching it on a relatively small 42" screen but give me a break. The only thing this movie really had going for it were the special effects. Take those out and you have nothing. Very quickly I began praying that everyone would just die so we could end this madness.
I picture John Cusack asking to see the money up front. Two people show up and literally dump bucketloads of cash on him. He thumbs through a few stacks, licks his lips, leaps to his feet, and in that inimitable manner exclaims: "I'll do it!" Roland Emmerich chuckles under his breath and hands him a script written in crayon on a cocktail napkin. Emmerich queries: "I pull the strings, you do the dance, yes yes?" Cusack responds enthusiastically: "Yes!" Emmerich throws another stack of $100's at the actor's face and repeats: "Yes YES??" Cusack: "YES YES!!"

So I went ahead and got a friend of mine to pick up the bluray last night. She bought the 2 disc special edition at Target. Despite the mixed reviews I still want to add this to the collection because so many have been raving about the PQ. I've been indecisive the past couple of days but I think I made the right purchase. I need at least one disaster film in the collection. I may pick up TDAT later on.

this would all make sense IF distributors obied by this logic previously. Several blus I have list something along the lines of "2 disk special edition" and the 1 extra disk count on the cover ends up being none other then a digital copy.

Distributors trained us since the beginning that the digital copy counts as a disk.

OK, just so I can get this straight: IF the slipcase is missing at Target AND the cover says "2 disc special edition", it means that it is the 4-disc edition (including the documentary disc and digital copy), correct? Does Target also carry a special edition without the documentary disc (a non-'exclusive' special edition)? If so, how would you distinguish the two if the slipcase is missing?

yes they do, and you cant tell the difference if the slip is missing. Thats the problem. Unless you order on line

I'll say

It's interesting reading some of the reviews and thoughts on this movie. I have yet to see it, I'll be checking it out tomorrow night, and I am pretty excited regardless of the hateful tendencies it seems to inspire in quite a few viewers
