There are many ways to "digitally restore" a movie I certainly hope that means a 4k scan from the camera negative but frankly that seems unlikely.

I'm watching the current release of Predator right now. It looks very good to me, I only see minimal grain (not a bad thing as there's no sign of DNR). Not sure how the new release will look any better, we'll see.

This may not be related to Predators at all but then again no one has seen it yet.

There may be a very small increase in sharpness, thats it. It will be barely noticeable. It will make the grain even worse. A new master will not take out the grain or make detail appear sharper. It would take a digital restoration to make it shine.

So an AVC encode may enhance sharpness a little, but it will enhance the grain

Still, Fox are on a hiding to nothing with this one. If they keep the grain intact - as they should - then the grain haters will go mental, especially as an 'all-new restoration blah blah' has been promised. And on the other hand, if the grain has been blitzed away then us DNR haters will go mad instead.

A digital restoration is not the same as DNR, I don't know for sure but some fine grain/noise should be intact. You have to remember that this movie was not meant for HD VIEWING, except theatrically.

I am surprised that Fox did a digital restoration. I wonder who did it, Lowry Digital maybe. They do good work.

A digital restoration is not the same as DNR, I don't know for sure but some fine grain/noise should be intact. You have to remember that this movie was not meant for HD VIEWING, except theatrically.

As long as the master hasn't been abused too much, this re-release will look like it was meant for HD, theatre or not.

Can't wait to see this new release. I knew Fox would put a predators sneak peak in there. The new Predators looks pretty sweet too.

I am not about to lay down anymore on Predator if the only new item is a sneak peek of the new film. I am hesitant to even watch the new film until it is available for rent even though I am a large Predator franchise fan. This is mainly due to Adrian Brody. Don't get me wrong he's great in his roles, especially The Pianist, but I have trouble seeing a small genuinely nerdy guy as a soldier.

He put on a little muscle for the role, like 15 pounds. It still isn't a lot but I'll think he will be ok. Still though it has Morpheous, and Machete, and a ninja

Have you seen any trailers yet? I think Adrien Brody is a very talented actor and can handle several different roles. If he can be a scientist, a con artist, a holocaust survivor and a drug dealer, I think he can be a capable warrior. Also, the story in Predators seems to indicate that they're not all great killers because they're big and strong, some of them are skilled or really smart)
