I think it's meeting my expectations so far. Just the introductory (practice) boss out of the way. Just getting to the meat of the game.

I don't think I have the patience for this game. Being tough is not a problem, but constantly replaying the same parts then losing all of your stuff after each death. How can anyone think this is fun. I'm gonna keep trying, but as of now this game is looking like trade bait for MKX.

[Show spoiler]Oh, so you're actually supposed to beat him? From my playthroughs, I thought we were just supposed to run around a bit, get slaughtered, then listen to his (silent, but still obvious) merciless laughter at our pathetic attempts to do anything more than poke him in the foot. I almost beat the Father, but he caught me right before I delivered the killing blow. When that bastard transforms, the fight gets ridiculous (though still fun, somehow). The game may be hard, but it also feels very rewarding.

[Show spoiler]To be fair, killing him only opens up a checkpoint right there. You can't progress any further. The place you actually need to go is where the Father is. If you haven't already, try and find the little girl NPC. The music box item she gives you will Stun the father and allow you to do a critical hit on him.

Here's a question... How the hell can u level up if you keep dying before you can find the next save spot? I went 1hr without dying, then ran into dome huge pig and died and lost everything. Seriously?

You just go back to the previous checkpoint, and got back to the hunters dream. You didn't lose everything. Just go back and kill the pig and reclaim your stuff.

I can tell you've never played a souls game before, and I'd advise you start reading up on some quick tutorials and class guides, as well as area maps and progress guides. Us Souls veterans are getting our butts kicked too, it's even harder for a newbie. It's very difficult, but also incredibly manageable. Ya just need to learn the systems and layouts.

I watched a stream of IGN live play this earlier an it looks great. My Collector's edition finally shipped. I do hope they fix the loading screen issue though, as I'm sure I'll be dying a lot in this game.

Great, never having played the Souls games and being a pretty mediocre gamer to begin with, I'm about to get brutalized. I must be a masochist.

what kind of reward exactly are you expecting from a video game other than enjoyment ???
sad to see so many people quitting on this already ... its not that tough of game once you realise you have to play it a little diffrerntly than playing call of duty .... i didnt make it to a boss yet , and ALL of my deaths so far have been of my own impatience or stupidity , but so far the actual one on one fighting is easier to me than any of the souls games have been .. whats been tough is the enemy density for sure .. you def have to lure enemies to you now ...though using hte second cane attack makes taking multiple enemies on much easier as it can easily hit 2/3 enemeies at a time

That was my main purpose for renting it. I will give it a try over the next week and if I end up liking it I will make a purchase. If my wife starts recommending I go to anger management I will return it and move on to something else.

So I've had a chance to calm down and will go at it again tonight. Question...should I even be fighting the pig now? I haven't fought any other bosses yet. And basically what ur saying is that when I get a good amount of blood echoes, backtrack to the dream, no matter how far I've come? The only concern is that when I come back, enemies respawn... Which is pretty cheap IMO.

Also, the game isn't difficult as I thought since I'm slaying wolves, huge enemies and regular foes with ease. It's just that I get to that one foe that takes me out. Then it's time to do it all again.

Game is enjoyable up to a certain point when you have done the exact same thing over & over for a few hours & are met with a Bloodborne loading menu when you thought you have accomplished just a bit of progress.

I will load up the game once in awhile to play it for fun, just am not gonna take the game seriously. If I make 0 progress because of that attitude, so be it.

If the enemies didnt respawn how would you level up ?? Its an rpg at its root. Its no different than playing the ff series in that sense. Noone complains about those enemies always respawning ???

I think a lot of people look at this game like its dmc or something

Enemies respawning is pretty standard in games of any genre. And you eventually may use it to your advantage to farm echoes, or whatever a type of enemy drops. You can fight that pig now. Hit him from behind. It's a tight space, though, so it can be tough to avoid getting squished. It's also fine just to wait until after you've upgraded your weapon or stats a bit. Either way is fine.

I'm going to have to find this Father. The gate behind the Cleric is closed, so I don't know where to go now.

Hey, your Cleric Beast had a fog door. I did not see a fog door there. I just walked in there and he appeared out of nowhere.
