Was Aladdin re-released in theaters recently? I must have missed it.

no, but a DCP was created for the intent of theatrical distribution (and for the occasional one-off El Capitan Los Angeles theater screening and any festival that is lucky to ink out deals with Disney to showcase their films).

Disney is paying them regardless. It's not like they remove the files, they just flip a switch to make them disabled. It costs them nothing extra to keep the files alive forever.

The oval covers suck, why did they switch to those? I'll be sticking with my UK steelbook:

Although I wish they'd do a 3D conversion.

Me too. It seems the only benefit of getting this is for the Robin Williams tribute. Unless they update the transfer again

Same here

As if those didn't cost enough from 3rd parties now, they'll go up even more because of people looking to substitute this horrible cover with that steel

I'm surprised so many want that steelbook, especially for those who are always complaining about characters being off model in merchandise. Aladdin and Jasmine don't look that great on that cover.

None of the bonus features have been confirmed yet. The Robin Willaims tribute was just speculation on another poster's part.

However, like others, I'm expecting around 30 minutes worth of new content, mostly focused on hyping the Broadway show.

As someone who has both the Platinum DVD and UK Blu-ray, I can't really think of any reason to drop $25 on this new release (maybe if there's a box set with the sequels included). I skipped the Diamond edition of 101 Dalmatians for the same reason.

I'm very much hoping for a 2-movie collection release of Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves, but it is possible we won't see them at all. When they released Tarzan and Hercules last summer, they did not release their STV sequels (Tarzan & Jane, Tarzan II: The Legend Begins, and Hercules: Zero to Hero). Granted, those titles aren't a part of the Diamond Edition line, but it's worth noting regardless, especially since Beauty and the Beast's less popular sequels didn't see a BD release, either (Belle's Magical World and Belle's Tales of Friendship).

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney packaged Belle's Magical World and Belle's Tales of Friendship as a Blu-ray double feature to capitalize on the live-action remake next year.

What I was saying was it makes no sense that Disney won't let you buy digital movies that are vaulted. Since it costs them nothing to allow you to buy them.

The Vault was never there because Disney couldn't handle distribution costs (physical or digital). It's pure marketing.

I have some left over that I am willing to get rid of for the price I paid for them (17,99 pounds) + shipping. If anyone is interested just PM me..

Beauty and the Beast is scheduled for release in March 2017. Any rerelease of the animated classic would probably not happen till then.

Oh that's right, 2017! Like I said, I suppose the chance of those sequels getting a Blu-ray upgrade would most likely be around that time to raise awareness for the new film. Let's hope so at least!

No, it's not the only benefit! The main benefit for me and countless others is getting the Digital HD copy to add to my VuDu/DMA/iTunes libraries.

I agree. I could import from another country, but I won't get the Magic Code points, and I won't get a DMA digital copy.

With enough points, you can get cool stuff.

They're paying Deluxe and Technicolor to maintain their servers... Used to be Sony, who was host for their BD live vaults including Lion King stuff.

Guess what, they killed that contract and that supplement is gone.

It's the same thing...

I hate digital media. You never know when they're going to pull it out. 5 years from now you decide to watch, guess what, it's gone.
