Yes i live in Norway and my wife has to have subtitles, alot of BDs that come out in the states does not in Norway, even 4K BDs so im very curious.
As a fellow Norwegian, I can relate. (Justified/Breaking Bad). I don't usually use subtitles, but it would be nice to have for sure.

Probably not by all that much. The increase in actual image resolution would likely be tiny, with most of the improvement being better defined grain. The fact that it was scanned at 4K is already beneficial even if the final output is only 2K/HD, as demonstrated on this page.

A release on UHD would be an insane pipe dream anyway.

Even if the restoration is incredible, you'll still get people complaining because they don't realize it's meant to be a gritty "ugly"-looking show.

Anyone know what the heck they're talking about in the press release when they say "A high-definition restoration was not possible until now" and this "new patented process"?
They are just spinning nonsense. The show was shot on film and it was always possible to transfer it to HD.

And this is still "Sony" release. There are new extras and special packaging, which is something Mill Creek doesn't really do. Sony basically put the package together, and Mill Creek is just releasing it.

Im really glad to hear that. I keep obsessing over "what could have been" in BDs that i know could have looked better. Thanks, man

At this point I'm more concerned with not seeing an EU release...

If you go to Mill Creek's Twitter, it looks like they have a hand in the making of special features.

I think it's because of Shawn Ryan. The guy has been talking this up for so long and he's trying to load it up as much as possible, which is nice of him.

Sony spent a huge amount of time and money remastering the series from top to bottom. If it only gets released by Mill Creek, i'd be friggin' amazed. Just how soon we'll see other options though is anyone's guess. Sony may well choose to give Mill Creek a window of exclusivity before throwing their own release out in Europe and Australia.

Will the show be presented in the correct aspect ratio?

I apologize if this was discussed already, I haven't gone through the thread.

No. OAR is 1.33, but the blu-rays are copped/opened up to 1.78. Pretty sad.

The above is false. The international DVDs have plenty of moments where you can see crew members holding lighting etc and actors who have been ADRd but not synced because their character was supposed to be just out of frame.

It is exactly like Buffy and if it has been reworked by Ryan episode by episode then it'll indeed be just like The Wire, with many instances of cropping.

"We filmed in widescreen" =/= "We composed in widescreen"

"Firstly, although filmed in Widescreen, The Shield is edited in Full Frame, and to maintain the documentary feel and enhance the tension on screen was always envisioned to be seen in the Full Frame aspect ratio the final editing is performed in." ~ Shawn Ryan

I've always watched the widescreen version, couldn't imagine it any other way. Once I purchased the R1 editon of one season, and the full frame was nothing short of a nightmare. Like looking through a keyhole.

So I'm not particularly interested in the "composed/intended/whatever" aspect infinite argument. I'm ecstatic this is getting released as widescreen.

And this is why people complain about sub par releases. Widescreen only is one of the most ridiculous and ignorant attitudes. The original (and far superior) 4:3 framing is there for a reason and is most assuredly not a nightmare. "Like looking through a keyhole."

Well, as long as we're resorting to name calling, I'd say your attitude is quite the arrogant one. Pretending to tell others what to think/like according to your (necessarily) limited view/opinion.

Don't buy this release. I will. And I'll thoroughly enjoy it

Fully agree, it`s beyond me why anyone would want to watch this or any other show for that matter in 4:3 these days. It`s a lousy aspect ratio from the very beginning and i am very glad that they opted for 16:9 and that we don`t don`t have to look at those ugly fat bars on the sides.

Believe me, I'm not trying to tell anyone what to think, merely highlighting the (to me, and many others) absurdity of demanding widescreen presentations when they are unnecessary. And it's not my opinion; it's the opinion of the show's creators. They may be reframing everything for widescreen now, but that was never their intent as any number of interviews will attest.
