I'd actually say the first AvP had more practical FX. AvP:R had quite a bit of digital replacement it seemed. All the opening Predator scenes were shot on green screen soundstages. At least AvP: R had more visceral action, and Ian Wyte's Wolf Predator had more faithful movement. Both have terrible scripts though, and are exercises in wasted opportunities. Thankfully, I haven't seen anything with Shane Salerno's name on it for some time. They are guilty pleasures of mine though, and I'd buy them on 4K for sure. The first AvP has a solid Blu-Ray transfer.

The AVP films should've been based on the comics, graphic novels and video games.

Setting them on modern day earth was a really bad idea.

The first is what happens when a fanboy makes a franchise film.
But it's 2018 and they all know better now, so maybe it will get a Blade runner style resurgence

I mean people didn't like blade runner in 82 and love it now, and fanboys know best so they might like AvP more.
Fox won't be doing a whole lost with the franchise now.

I totally dig the crimson red, samurai allusion cover art. It's way better than the two-minute Photoshop standalone covers. Just my take. Hoping this will be available in the US too.

Agreed. Doubtful they will make another, but if it doesn't have the Colonial Marines in it then I'd prefer they not bother.

A 4K transfer and HDR pass is not into the millions of dollars.

Digital reconstructions of badly deteriorated films like Lawrence of Arabia are.

The two aren't mutually linked, Matrix 4K had that dreadful rabbit (albeit with a half-decent slip) and had what was reported to be a million-dollar remaster lavished upon it. I quite like that 'rising sun' Predator cover tho...

A VHS rental about twenty years ago was the last time I saw Predator 2. It's going to be such a blast seeing it again. Viewing it on something other than a 20" full screen TV has got to be a plus, right?

I wonder if the original NC-17 cut of Predator 2 still exists.

I'd love to see that.

The covers are getting better but is it that difficult to create really nice cover art? All things considered the scans are most important but when I see mediocre cover art I can't help but think did they skimp out where it really counts?

Or they spent all the cash on new masters.

I wish more BD's & UHD's used the original artwork.

There's way too many crappy new covers these days.
