I had a film professor who tried to prove a point about what was important in a movie by telling an auditorium full of students exactly the significance of 'Rosebud' right before we watched Citizen Kane. I had already seen the movie and this was 20 years ago and I still remember the groans of everybody who hadn't seen it and I still think that dude was a dild@.

Last year in a film class, we watched Citizen Kane and interpreted "Rosebud" our own way and the professor asked at the beginning of the following class what we thought it meant. I never thought so many interpretations could be made off of the one line, but interestingly enough only a few of us "got it." That being said, it's possible that not everyone in the class thought of it the same way he explained it, that's still a d**k move.

Well, yeah, without spoiling it, the sign of a great movie is how many angles in to it's meaning there are, but this was a literal "It's this." And I've said this before about the alleged 'meaning' of movies and it's one of my favorite quotes- Scorsese talking about Cape Fear goes on and on about the references to Job and Nietzche and how that was the genesis of wanting to do a remake and ends by saying 'Forget it. It's a thriller. See it for that and then go back and see it again if it means something to you.' Words for an artist to live by, imho.

The social media/want to be famous motive wasn't in Kevin Williamson's original script. Y'all can thank Ehren Kruger.

The social media aspect wasn’t, but her wanting to “become Sidney” was always her motive.

Sure one could be... but She wont be over powering people in a scuffle. Though, again , i need to see the movie again to remember what happened. All i remember are bits and pieces and that I didnt like it.

My mind has changed on quite a few movies on a re-watch that I didnt like the first time around.

I'm going off my impressions that I posted in another forum once before. Hopefully it can paint you a picture to get started:

Three episodes, and so far so good. No complaints whatsoever. It takes watching the first season to understand what's going on, but this style is trumping anything that the first season had to offer. More of the same, but a slightly different point of view and just a later chapter. Sort of breaking away from the format of the movies.

My later posts are mostly just positive, positive, positive. I don't remember much about the seasons anymore since these posts were in 2016, but my impression seems like the second season was better than the first. I think I'll rewatch this series, actually.

While this show did do something new that the Scream movies never did (HINT: it was mentioned at least once in this thread), the problem is the second season left fans pining for more, they had a Halloween special afterward that didn't advance anything and sucked, and then Season 3 went another direction by basically rebooting. Here were my impressions on that season:

I won't say that it was great, and the real problem was with the characters/actors. It's a new set of people, and the previous folks are completely unignored. The story was fine, but a lot of the characters were really annoying (mainly the black characters, and I hate to put it that way but that's how they can be most quickly identified). The things they say, the decisions they make, everything. I'm fine with them stereotyping everybody to be a specific kind of person, as the tropes go in the show. I think some of it was cleverly written, though. I'll boast that I was able to get some of the aspects of the ending correct, but not quite everything.

Anyway, yes to original Ghostface mask and yes to Roger Jackson's voice returning. Some of the gore was also pretty legitimate. There is no panache like you'd see from a Wes Craven horror film chase scene, but it wasn't without its moments for sure. Because of some of those returning elements and its meta awareness, I'll say that it earns the Scream name, but again it was with a few pretty lousy characters/actors involved.

Looks like Paramount just announced re-issues of the Miramax Scream 2 and 3 Blu Ray's.

So much for us getting the trilogy in 4K. Rubbish news.

Even after Beverly Hills Cop getting a 4K for the first one only. People expected Paramount to release all of Scream movies on 4K?

Perhaps the sequels will be released in streaming 4K, like the BHC sequels.
