Dolby Vision fixes most of the problem, which is the terrible HDR10 encode by Kino. Even still SDR probably won't make a difference if Kino decides there's no problem, those Leone titles could also have some awful compression.

(All this gnashing of teeth aside, I do wonder why the capsaholic caps don't show the chroma weirdness. Poor compression in the brighter spots, yes, but no dodgy chroma...) |

But off course, if the problem is too big it will be worse than a great bluray (still have Arrows IOTBS). |

Forgive my ignorance, but I assumed disc authoring was simply a sort of “set it and forget it” automatic process with authoring software doing all the heavy lifting. How can this process get botched so badly? Is there more of a manual, human element to it?

I've watched the 4K disc in both HDR and Dolby Vision on different players and different monitors. The image is gorgeous and I nor anyone else who watched it with me saw anything wrong with it. I laugh at the overdramatic ridiculousness of everyone on here railing against this release. You seem to spend more time "analyzing" things rather than just enjoying it. SMH.

Most definitely. What is interesting is that they might indeed be using a "set it and forget it" method on these particular discs on which we're getting these compression errors. Ideally, a human(s) would be looking at it and setting the right methods to compress it, and making sure it looks good both in HDR10 and Dolby Vision. There are entire companies whose sole job is to author and compress discs (e.g. Fidelity in Motion). Obviously, whosever job was to create the compression for this disc did not do their job well and did a major screwup.

I checked it out for the third time and the green blobs and crappy 'film grain' (if you can even call it that), are still there
![]() Granted, not every single shot has these issues, but you really can't go more than a few shots without noticing either those chroma errors and/or bad grain rendering. Edit: and I checked it out in both my TV and my computer (both in HDR) to use two types of completely different hardware and different tone mapping and the compression errors show up in both. So... ![]() Last edited by samlop10; 11-29-2021 at 04:36 AM. |

This is a really good disc. Not perfect, but really good. There was a time or two I noticed that the picture wasn't fully in focus, and a few times where it looked like a 70s movie on cable. That being said, its the best this film has ever looked in my home, and it wasn't a distraction for me whatsoever.

If you have a PayPal debt card, you can just enter the information on the card like a regular debt card, and it will take it out right away. If you don't have one, you can get one for free.

That’s the whole point of this. Why pay for something that’s more expensive when you’re essentially getting inferior quality vs something that is cheaper and overall looks better? Might as well just stick with the regular blu-ray and save money when this happens. |
