The dance-off was totally fine and hilarious for me. I think the involvement of both Robotnik's in general (specifically the grandfather) was too much for me as a whole. Don't get me wrong, they had me laughing at parts.

Two unforgivable moments for me that sacrificed story for comedy though were: (1) having Wade safeguard the emerald stone the way that he was, and (2) the way that the Wachowski's talked themselves through security when in disguise as Rachel "gettin' ultra nasty." Even in a PG movie, these are straight up sins in the film, and they were purely done for a chuckle.

The parts that lose me are when characters are sitting around talking about their feelings. Unless they get to some critical decision, it often seems drawn out too much. If they could show a glimpse of it, that's fine but sometimes it goes for several minutes of how bad Shadow felt about things.

I think if Shadow stayed as the primary focus (and if Keanu's voice didn't take me out of it), these parts could and should have been earned, but they weren't.

I remember the London bits dragging for me overall, though. There is a specific part where Sonic is on top of the Eye and says something to the effect of: "C'mon, I've been waiting all day!" and I could sense the entire sequence had dragged with little to nothing having happened in the past 5-10 minutes of time. I was totally with him in that moment.

This definitely takes last place of the three for me so far. The first film is kind of a treasure.

I forgave that goofy morphing scene with the bride and hero in the enemy base as it was so brief and short, unlike the wedding scene in part 2 seemed to be. But yes, it was not great for that attempt at humor.

Yeah, that first Sonic, they did a really good job with it. Fun movie even though he's on Earth.
Yes, more with Shadow and develop his story more could make the payoff of his pain more meaningful I guess. It was interesting anyway that he wanted to get revenge for his friend.

The problem isn't the character, the problem is that she sassed her way through security clearance despite their clear protocol. It wasn't even cleverly written. It was just: "You better let me through before I get nasty!"

Robotnik's were overused and I feel like there was a version of this story without them initially, then Carrey came back for his final hoorah and they let him have carte blanche to celebrate the man and his comedy, and it was too wacky for the middle act of the film where it slogs more.

To the fault of nobody but myself as well, I just hear Keanu Reeves when Shadow is talking. I wish they had some no-name or changed his voice somewhat, because I can't feel the character enough when he opens his mouth, and I feel he is supposed to carry the story's emotional weight.

That's how I felt. But I've never been a big fan of these movies, just enough to check them out. I thought it was better than 1, but oddly enough that's my least favorite.

It’s extremely unlikely...impossible actually there was ever a version of the story that did not include at least one of the Robotniks. Gerald is a key character. He’s Ivo and Maria’s grandfather and he designed the Ark.

Even though Gerald is not alive in the game Ivo would have still been needed to at least team up with Shadow and launch the Ark.

Jim Carrey must have agreed very early on to return or else they would have had to basically change the entire Sonic Adventure 2 standpoint.

The Sonic Adventure games, I think that is probably what the producers are mostly basing these movies on. In a Sonic Adventure game, Sonic is seen running down a steep hill road way, with cars and people walking around as if on Earth.

The 2D classic original Sonic 1, 2, 3, Knuckles & Sonic and Sonic Mania are all set in Sonic's realm. Nothing on Earth.

I just watched this on 4K UHD BD today and had a blast. By the third act it actually morphs into the best Superman movie in recent memory. And, as always, Jim Carrey is fantastic in this. He was also credited as Artistic Director. My only gripe is that Shadow's backstory needed just a little more fleshing out.

Finally saw this one.

I think it edges out the others as the best, as Jim Carrey stole this movie away with his two characters.

I imagine with yet another character from the game, the 4th film will be getting crowded, but can 'Little Tom' gets some more screen time? That gag was aces.

Just watched Sonic 3 after finally finding a 4K combo pack. Last one at local Walmart and glad I waited for 4K! Well worth it!
