Yeah I think DARK FORCE now having some demand and people watching his site, along with two new releases FORCED ENTRY and BLACKOUT in the pipeline has for the first time the perfect storm to generate some big preorder sales, and people can add SWOAN to the order to be shipped along with the preorders at a lower cost if they choose. Or, they could pay a little more and buy it alone; but a lot of people like myself enjoy all of these releases and would prefer just to get the lowest price possible for all of them, even if it means waiting a few extra weeks.

The key is, DF needs to set a target date based upon when he is getting stuff back from replication that gives DF enough lead time for to pack all the orders and get all the orders out on the same day.

Let's face it a lot of the SWOAN moaning and groaning is because people don't like the fact some people got this release a week ago, and others have yet to order it. If it was left open as a preorder 2 weeks ago with a ship date of today (with all of this time DARK FORCE packing orders in the background), and then today all of the orders packed in the last 2 weeks went out all in the same day - then probably much less people would complain. Can even do preorder waves if the demand is high enough, with the second wave with a later release date than the first wave (after the first wave "sells out") to again give time for packing etc. Expectation setting is huge.

With the SWOAN order deluge Dark Force should now have an idea of how many items they can pack per day, so they should be able to estimate the lead window they need for the preorder. Dark Force hasn't ran into this issue before because nothing has been anywhere near as successful in sales to date, but its not a bad issue to have so long as they can transform it into future successes.

In fact, given what happened at both the first and second sales outings for SoaWN, we have concrete proof that it stops the scalpers in their tracks to bundle a title. Plus, many who are going to buy both anyway are able to score a wonderful price. I agree, he should still sell the stand-alone, but if more were in bundles, more real fans would have gotten the release, instead of those 100 or so scalper copies floating on ebay since release day.
This issue is not insurmountable to sites like Vinegar Syndrome, Ronin Flix, Twilight Time, Severin, etc. They put individual titles up for sale at normal times when everybody will have a chance to plan and buy them. I’m not sure why it is so difficult for Code Red and Dark Force.

Those of us who are fans of these movies and who typically try to buy the ones that we want as they are released are the ones who are penalized by the bundle policies, because we don’t want to order a Blu-ray that we already own (or a Blu-ray that we just flat out don’t want) just to get a new release that we like.

I’m not one of these entitled whiners who complains about business models or trolls Facebook sites of labels, and I am usually happy to roll with the punches when it comes to collecting things, but the logic behind this fiasco with Screams of a Winter Night has me scratching my head.

You're both right and wrong on this. With VS, they actually do end up with quite a few of the 1500 going to scalpers, though not nearly as many on the slip editions because the scalpers know a non-slip will be coming. However, they have had titles sell out incredibly quickly when all were listed. If you look at how many they sold of a couple of titles in the first few minutes they were live, they have actually sold 200 copies in a couple of minutes on their most sought after titles. With Ronin and Severin, when it is a 1000 run of a high demand title, their first batch sells out rather quickly. Show up a few days late on a big title and it says out of stock, which has happened to me.

However, VS and Ronin and Severin do, absolutely, have very orderly procedures for those new releases. DF made a mistake not offering either a pre-order, with an absolute, definite time for the pre-order to go live, or a definite time for the store to open. DD gave an estimate, which was good enough for me, as I just sat there for an hour refreshing the site and reviewing my Amazon Subscribe and Save and then added the bundle he'd promised within a minute of the store opening, but many weren't sure of the time the the individual copies sold out in minutes.

He will surely learn from this and incorporate the lesson, as he grows his business, but no store can prevent demand from overwhelming stock availability and leaving a store looking a bit bad. VS apologized openly with a specific release, when they had said they weren't sure about a non-slip edition, telling everyone a non-slip version was being released, and very soon, and it had sold faster than they had anticipated. They just didn't get the same kind of heat here because it was a run of thousands and everyone on the boards, who cared to, had picked up a copy.

Meh... who cares. The way they release things and run a business, I stopped caring about anything they release. I just assume it's a joke these days. I'm not jumping through hoops or waiting for random store openings and minor restocks that seem to only cater to the scalpers and not people that want just one for collecting. I'll give my money to the other labels that aren't morons. Anyone that supports DF as it currently operates are fools encouraging these shitty business practices and are also part of the problem. Maybe one day they'll get their heads their there asses, but until then, they won't get another dime out of me.

That's fantastic. I got talked down by so many people for admitting I couldn't afford the price hike on some of the VS releases and, worse, knew people who really couldn't and basically just buy the peek dvds and, worst of all, would probably never be able to afford a yearly subscription. Hazing is the word that comes to mind on the incredibly shallow responses received by a few, including guess who.... I'll give you a hint. It wasn't Ruined.

All this discussion of how DD spends his money and shapes his life, as though any of us have a right to judge anyone else for how they like their place to look and what kind of watch they wear. How did this discussion even start? Why is everyone so obsessed with that apartment? It's clean and clutter free, better than any place I've ever lived.

I think "There's someone who hasn't wasted their life on others." Even the Bible tells us to work and take care of our families, and not waste all our labors on charity. Charity is good, but it's not a job that meets the criteria, "getting my business done". If you have obligations, you're supposed to meet them. So, basically, I don't see them as morons.
