Good to see Succession is coming to Blu Ray. Haven't seen it since the only legal way in the UK is NOW TV or Sky. Both overpriced and awful quality. I even have I torrent that I'll soon be able to delete.

In my case, cable internet is FTTN (Fiber to the node) and then coax cable to, and through, my home. The node is about 75 feet away in my neighbor's backyard.

My ISP offers 1 Gbps internet with their FTTN network and I have tried it, but it was overkill for my needs, so I dropped back down to 100 Mbps. I have no problem running multiple online tasks simultaneously even at this reduced speed, so until I see a need for more bandwidth I will stay with this barebones plan.

The biggest issue with my ISP is that they are a monopoly in my small town and their service is unreliable. They have no competition and thus they do the barest minimum to maintain their shoestring and rubber band network. It's all held together with chewing gum and ear wax.

Another repetitive post but may help some newer readers understand. Doing speed test between you and your ISP is important but it is ONLY a small part of the equation in regards to streaming audio/video. That test tells you nothing about the link between your ISP and the CDN (Content Delivery Network). I have tried to stress this fact but it is always lost on some. In the spoiler is a post from Oct. 2018.

AFAIK the Apple TV4K is the only consumer device that can display realtime data about the content one is currently watching. I have posted some of my test results using the Apple HUD and it clearly shows major differences in network bandwidth. Look at Amazon Prime, the bandwidth is 90 Mbps for The Batman and 1917 but only 20 Mbps for Dune 2021. This implies that Dune was streaming from a different Amazon CDN. Also worth noting, the video data rate for it is 15 Mbps matching the other two movies.

So it does not matter if you have symmetrical 10 Gigabit service from a local provider it will not do a thing to change what occurs between your ISP and the CDN.

I never say never, or live by any hard and fast rules, but I'm reasonably sure that Tarantino's final film THE MOVIE CRITIC will be my last visit to a cinema. I'll arrive early, ask the manager to let me into the booth to have a look at the projector setup, buy some popcorn and finally settle in with, what I assume will be, a like minded audience that will enjoy a nostalgic (actual) film experience...

... although I am gravely concerned that the movie is now pushed back to 2025...
Do you know the manager ? Because I have absolutely no idea why they would even do such a thing ?
If I would ask something like that here, I would probably be shown the door very fast.

4-8 Mbps? I’m not sure that even qualifies as broadband; my conventional cable ISP averages over 500 Mbps...

Unfortunately, my wife and kids are sick with COVID. As I'm the only one who is up to date on their vaccinations, I've been relatively unscathed besides having to pay nurse maid to three very sick people.

With everyone bed ridden, I found myself left to my own devices by early evening. I was surprised to see that POOR THINGS was available to stream.

Say what you want about awards shows, but I LOVE watching the GOLDEN GLOBES and THE OSCARS and am happy when I get to see as many nominated movies as possible beforehand. I really didn't think I'd get the chance with this title but I'm glad that I did.
I have no means of measuring the bit rate but I thought this visually stunning movie looked and sounded great on my setup in 4K DV with ATMOS (DD+ that I processed through DTS X PRO).
I will pick up the UHD when available.

I regret that I arrived late to ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD with my daughter after our pre movie dinner ran a little late. I had hoped to take her up into the booth to show her the setup.

The venue that I've attended for the previous five or six TARANTINO films maintains a film projector for just such an occasion. I'm sure they've gone through many managers over the years. My polite request to enter the film booth has never been declined.

OK fair enough. I just don't think they would allow it here.
Is it a smaller cinema venue or a big multiplex ?

I only see it available for purchase at $19.99.

I will pre-order the disc for $6 more and get the digital version for the correct price of free.

I adore Margaret Qualley. She's great in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Sanctuary.
(Sanctuary is on Kanopy.)

It's a multiplex with one of it's auditoriums that gets used a lot during the TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL - especially for features shot on film.

It's located right across the street from BAY STREET VIDEO an iconic Toronto shop that even today sells and rents every physical title released as they have done since the days of LaserDisc.

Yeah, that was our speeds before fibre. Fibre was a revelation, my gaming and my streamed tv instantly moved up a few notches. I realise, of course, that streaming services have their ceiling and I’m not about to claim some miraculous digital magic happened, I’m not turning into Alchav.

The point is, things were a struggle before fibre. Broadband couldn’t handle two or three HD feeds without a loss of quality and/or buffering. Game downloads (huge downloads) now took a few hours rather than days.

It’s quite apparent that what you guys use is different to our system, so no doubt Wendell is correct. Just from my viewpoint, fibre is absolutely needed, especially if you want to watch in decent quality.

Sounds as tho your previous internet was one of the DSL variations. I have kin and where they live DSL or satellite is the only choice. They have fairly good DSL because they are fairly close to the frame (telco office).

I am out in the sticks but have fairly good internet speeds because we have fiber to the node which is not far from me. My plan is for 500 Mbps but I need to swap out my old modem for a new one because my current one limits me to 300 Mbps. Last night at 2200 hours I did a test and my speed was about 280 Mbps to the ISP. Next I did a test to a server in Atlanta GA and the best it would do was 140 Mbps.

IIRC you have a Mac and ATV4K. Now that you have faster internet why don’t you install X-Code on your Mac so you can pair your ATV4K with Mac for the Developer and use the HUD to see what your streaming data is really like. Just make sure the Mac OS and X-Code is the latest versions.

I may do that, thanks.

Yeah, I’m on the FTTP 500Mbps option, it was the cheapest but it’s so far removed from my previous FTTC, which ended up struggling to get 40 Mbps most nights. Don’t get me wrong, it was still more than enough for gaming (I have good PING) and streaming 4K/full HD, but everything is quite reliable and buttery smooth now.

It was announced alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi, Moon Knight and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

You know, I don't generally buy movies I don't like just because they are part of a series. I don't own Mission: Impossible 2 despite owning all the other titles. I don't own Matrix Revolutions in 4K despite owning the other three (it came in the Ultimate Matrix Collection Blu-ray set. That's good enough for me.) But I am ashamed to admit that even though I wasn't crazy about TFatWS and really didn't like Moon Knight, I will still add these to my MCU collection. I may have a problem .

Andor of course is a must own. I REALLY want to support Disney's physical media push, but Obi-Wan Kenobi is a bridge too far. Though that artwork is amazing...

Sorry to hear that. I hope they get better soon. I'm on the downside of Strep Throat and Bronchitis so I empathize.

Hope your recovery is speedy!

I worked a 12 hour day yesterday and came home to a bad episode of MASH...

As the most "at risk" person in the household, I am the most diligent about keeping up with my boosters, but I almost feel guilty about being well while everyone else feels so lousy.

I don't believe in karma, religion, evil eyes, or any type of superstition (my wife does LOL) but last week after attending the LEAFS game, I turned to my daughter as we were packed into the subway like sardines and said "well, I guess COVID is over"....We've both agreed not to share that discussion with my wife...
