I think I am going to finally pick up the 4KBD of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I have had this on Blu-ray for years and only ever watched it once. I have an Amazon gift card and it's down to $16.99 so I figure why not? I have heard this really is a demo quality disc.

I had a great time! I am so glad that I got to see it at the theater. The movie has lots of dark scenes, so it will be interesting to see how well that translates to our home displays.

As for stamina, I had to be helped out of the theater to the car, but other than that small hiccup I had a wonderful night with friends and we saw an incredible film together.

Dune looked great, so this should too. Glad you enjoyed it.

Don’t tell anyone in the 4K threads. That’s far too positive a review.

To touch on the whole physical vs digital again. I was watching Top Gun: Maverick in 4K UHD off of Vudu the other day. Then Vudu for some reason just quit working so I dug out my Blu-ray. The picture quality actually looks somewhat close. This didn't seem like there was any film grain, but very sharp picture so probably digitally-captured. But I turned up my AVR a good amount to get my speakers pumping, and I noticed that the Dolby TrueHD Atmos track on the Blu-ray just has so much better dynamic range. By comparison, the Vudu UHD stream's audio just kind of feels like something is lacking where the Blu-ray's Dolby TrueHD Atmos track just hits the sweet spot. Especially during action sequences like at the beginning of the movie when the jets are taking off, the Blu-ray's sound just knocks your socks off. I did not get that experience from the Vudu stream.

As a guy who is finding my watching habits drift more towards streaming, I still would not watch a title like DUNE 2 or TOP GUN that way if a physical option were available.

I'm really grateful that I had an opportunity to watch POOR THINGS and THE ZONE OF INTEREST before tonight's festivities as streaming allowed for. Although I was surprised at how much the sound design plays an important role in the latter and will eventually enjoy (for lack of a better word) it on disc, I don't feel cheated by the DD+ upmixed by DTS X PRO NEURAL mix that I experienced.

I would love it if the eventual DUNE 2 stream drops day and date with the physical release ( a la OPPENHEIMER)... but I'm not holding my breath... either way it won't be a difficult decision with that title to go physical.

Some may find the “We test 4k Discs vs Streaming - Which one is best in a home theater?” interesting. I only watched the end of the video. My interest was 3 non professional video people got 10 out of 12 correct answers in choosing UHD Blu-ray disc over UHD streaming.

I noticed they were using a Epson video projector. AFAIK Epson does not have a native 2160 x 3840 panel, instead they use a 1080 x 1920 panels and do “pixel shifting” to get 3840.

Yup. That video is utterly stupid. Let’s test 4K with a non 4K projector. SMH.

Kinda like a certain prolific forum member that reviews 4K discs...as seen on his 2K TV.

We're in the 9th year of the 4K UHD disc format, so he needs to get with the program already.

HDTV1080P.

Buried deep in his lengthy reviews is a phrase that reads some variation of "However, because of limitations of my old display the native 4K HDR10 movie was downscaled to 2K SDR quality."

WTF SMH *♂️ wrong resolution, wrong colourspace, no HDR, what’s next? Using Westinghouse 42” HDTV viewed from 13 feet away? Dang it. Not too many things make me angry but this is absolutely ridiculous. He’s judging picture quality for crissake !!!

All of his many, many 4K disc reviews are like this with this caveat usually buried in the last, or next to last, paragraph.

In his review of The Creator 4K UHD disc even audio isn't spared:"Because of limitations with my old display and A/V receiver the native 4K HDR10 movie with lossless 13.1 Dolby Atmos was downscaled to 2K SDR quality with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD core audio."

Having seen a couple of excellent documentaries on the Hoss family in the past, i went in thinking I knew what I was about to get. I was wrong..

Glazer has delivered an absolute masterclass in filmaking.i actually don't have the words except to say that I've never seen anything anywhere that so perfectly captures the banality of the vileness that I believe is at the heart of the human animal.

I would also call it the best, though not sure what my favourite is. Oscar nominees this year have been quite strong, with only one I would definitely remove (Barbie; haven't seen Maestro). Would put May December in its place.

Zone of Interest took an event which has been shown before and found a totally new and unique was of portraying it, subtle but very effective. You can lose your mind watching some of these scenes like the garden one. And of course technically you can tell a lot of thought was given into the composition of each scene so there is a lot to think about while viewing. It's seems like it would be very rewatchable even if a hard watch. Waiting for the disc myself, might get the French 4k if no better option.
