Scanavo maybe? I know that's what Criterion uses...

Speculative video but I believe it. Sign up fees is sort of genius.

I get Max included with my phone plan; I sure as hell wouldn't pay to have it otherwise. As I said, I will be cancelling Prime when my current subscription expires on June 30th. because they no longer offer any benefit to me.

Some good may come from the SVODs nickel and diming their customers to death; maybe some of their customers will decide that streaming isn't the bargain that they thought that it was and decide that their money is better spent elsewhere.
There were two main things I believed would happen in time with streaming costs. One was ads, the other (like Wendell) is locked contracts. Locked contracts will happen for sure. I don’t see the credits thing happening. That’s a step too far for hard working people. Maybe, I could sort of be talked into believing it if we still lived in an ad-free subscription world, but the streamers need as many eyeballs as possible on as many shows and films as possible, to feed those ads. Start restricting access to whole series unless you have enough credits, and that wouldn’t rub up well with consumers OR brands running the ads in the first place.

Locked contracts will bring in the extra money, as will sign up fees. They are very much possible.

My FOMO (hate that expression but appropriate in this case) got the better of me so I pre-ordered the next wave of Disney+ Steelbooks. Yes, even Obi-Wan Kenobi. If nothing else the artwork is stunning. Plus all 4 were $17.98 each due to the 60% off. Hard to say no at that price.

Also picked up the DVD special edition of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It has a bonus disc of Special Features not available anywhere else. I'll get a 3 disc Blu-ray case for those and my Blu-ray.
Happy belated birthday!

Thank you gentlemen. My birthday is actually today. Today is the big 5-0. And my 20th wedding anniversary is next Wednesday so the wife and I took a week off to relax and celebrate the milestones. And of course watch a lot of movies.

A very Happy Birthday to you and congratulations on your 20th wedding anniversary. Double the reasons to celebrate and a whole week to do it in! Well done!

A very happy birthday to you ENDER14 and welcome to the back half club!
Congrats on the nuptial milestone as well!

The wife and I will be celebrating 25 years later this year somewhere in the UK... knocking off a couple of bucket list items...

Make the most of it, now they will seem to come a lot more often!!

Last year we treated our son and wife to an Alaskan cruise for his 50th. In June we will celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary this year.

In a previous post, I talked about a friend of mine who is still a DMC member (I canceled by sub a couple/few years ago) who recently did a large order for me, him, and another friend of ours. Among the items that I am getting from that order are the previous D+ Show releases (WandaVision, Loki S1, and Mandalorian S1&2) on both Blu-Ray and 4K. I went this route since I really wanted them to be 4K+Blu-Ray combo packs, but they didn't release them that way... and I didn't want to pay full price for each show twice.

Well, with the announcement of these four additional shows, we have another group order going, which also includes me, once again, getting all of these shows in both formats. I was a bit more reluctant about it since a couple of the shows I wasn't exactly thrilled with, but with the club shutting down in the not-too-distant future, I know that I likely won't have the chance to get these at this price point, so I went for it.

Since I'm getting these at a decent discount, if I have buyer's remorse later, I could likely sell them off and at least break even on what I spent. So it's not the end of the world.

I'm not sure what I will do, though, for any future D+ show releases once the club is no longer an option. It's going to be hard justifying the price of buying them twice. Without going into tons of detail, while I want the option of having the higher quality 4K discs, I also have reasons for wanting the Blu-Ray (to the point that if absolutely forced to pick only one format, it would likely be Blu-Ray).

I know the UK releases, at least so far, have been 4K+Blu-Ray combo packs. If that continues to be the case, I may have to look into the cost of importing those sets for future releases, as long as it is cheaper than buying both formats separately for the domestic releases.

Yeah, I've noticed the trips around the sun seem to get shorter and shorter.

Yeah, that was my primary motivation as well. As for future releases, I would gladly pay full price for Hawkeye and She-Hulk (don't judge). But apart from the second season of Andor none of the Star Wars shows have really thrilled me. I did like the first 2 seasons of The Mandalorian but would have to get an amazing deal to get any beyond that. And since I'm a sucker for all things Marvel I would probably get Secret Invasion and Ms. Marvel as well.

Or Tik Tok, with its push for horizontal videos and longer content. Inevitable as soon as they announced an interest in the gaming industry.

Yeah, I didn't want to miss out on these deals. But I did go crazy in the process. Here is everything that I have coming sooner or later from the orders that my friend helped me with. LOL
