That's great! Adam said last month that he was talking to the producer so that's a pretty quick turnaround.

Typhoon Club is incredible. One of Somai's best films and one of the very best films of the 1980s. Like the rest of Somai's body of work, it has been long overdue a release here. I remember first seeing it back when there was a retrospective at the Edinburgh film festival over a decade ago now. Stunning.

So, from what we know so far, what's incoming to the UK are:
  • Banmei Takahashi's 1988 film Door (ドア)
  • Kiyoshi Kurosawa's 1992 film The Guard from Underground (地獄の警備員)
  • Reiki Tsuno's 2023 film Mad Cats
  • Gen Sekiguchi's 2004 film Survive Style 5+
  • Shinji Sōmai's 1985 film Typhoon Club (台風クラブ)

Is there anything else that we know is coming soon? Really excited by the line-up, with many of them from the 80s to early 00s.

I suppose we're almost at the point to where Shinya Tsukamoto's Vital could also be available now for Third Window to rescue unless we have to wait a few more years.

Survive Style 5 is on ice at the moment:

There are some that they said they might look into / were considering but I don't think any other title is confirmed other than a second Kiyoshi Kurosawa title (Door III?).

I watched the Japanese release last month. It's a strange film, I loved parts of it, but I'm not sure about the whole. I expected something more straightforward, so a few nice contextualizing extras would definitely be appreciated.

Adam said he was looking for another Kurosawa one for October but it wasn't confirmed, that could be what led him to Door? But from the way he phrased things when he tweeted the Door trailer it didn't sound to me like a trilogy release is on the cards. I'd be happy to be wrong though, I can't find a release of Door 2 anywhere.

Glad I held off importing Typhoon Club, I was tempted by the Japanese release as it (surprisingly) had English subtitles but it was a little on the pricey side.

Ben (who co-hosts the podcast) has posted check discs over on twitter, with a double feature of Door and Door 2, as well as The Guard from Underground.

Also Terracotta have started posting out the Ishii sets.

I think someone, possibly Adam himself, said that the rights to it should expire some time next year so I reckon we should se a release of it in either 2025 or 2026.

From way back in 2016...!

Obviously Arrow got it in their US set a while ago so hopefully it isn't too far off for the UK now.
Did sort of kick myself for not picking up the Arrow set, money was tight at the time and I've got all the TWF releases, but I didn't really realise how many new features they'd put together. And of course the LE with the book now goes for quite a bit, and is entirely unjustifiable as a double dip.

Ishii set arrived from Terracotta yesterday. Looking forward to getting stuck in to this, really encompasses the best of TWF - cult classics and things that have never had a release before.
These are all new to me, and having a look at Ishii's filmography he's another director I'd never have seen a thing from without TWF so many thanks to Adam!

Watched through the Ishii set a few days ago, and the centrepiece films, Sharkskin Man and Party 7, were definitely the better films. The oddball characters and undercurrent of strangeness is all there.
I was surprised at how good Promise of August looked (probably the best in terms of PQ in the whole set imho).

Wasn’t really overly enamoured with the other films tbh. Content wise, they weren’t as good as what has gone before, and I’ve not always been a big fan of the digital look. Compare Promise of August with the later films and it’s night and day as to which has the nicer image.

A good set overall, and a good accompaniment to TWF’s other Ishii releases.

I don't have ANY Third Window titles in my collection

Does anyone have any 'must-haves' that they'd recommend?

Kitano is top of the list (if you can still find them).
Tetsuo: The Iron Man, The Taste of Tea, Crazy Thunder Road, Electric Dragon, Stardust Brothers are some other favs of mine.
