I pre-ordered all three of the new Cameron 4K discs on Feb. 21st. I received all three of them on March 18th, which was only six days past their release date of March 12th.
Considering the tremendous demand for these titles I feel that this short delay was more than understandable. Instead of fretting about the slightly late arrival of these three movies, I instead used that time to enjoy some of the over 9000 titles that I already owned. Talk about your first world problems! ![]() |

But to give up on physical media over that (when you presumably prefer it in most other regards) seems like a hasty decision. As it is, most movie get their digital releases before physical releases anyway. So you will have to wait regardless to get the physical release. And one of the main benefits of physical is that they can't take it away from you. Given the various stories we've seen in the recent past of content being pulled from some services, or services shutting down and people losing access to content, if long term access is something that you care about, then physical is the way to go. Plus in many instances the physical copy comes with a digital code anyway, so you get the benefits of both. This immediate gratification / "FOMO" mindset is what these companies are counting on to get people to opt for digital over physical, because people have the impulse to want things RIGHT NOW. But as time has shown us, what is good in the short term is not necessarily good in the long term. |

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to finally have an HD and UHD copy of the film, but wish Cameron hadn't tinkered quite so much. Titanic is still the best of the Cameron 4K's I've watched so far. |

However I do sometimes wonder why directors feel the need to tinker around with their films prior to being released on DVD or Blu-ray. I assume they must have been happy enough with their work when the film was originally made and released in the cinemas. I'm not a Star Wars fan so I don't know what alterations were made, but I seem to remember lots of criticism with the changes made by George Lucas when his original trilogy was released on DVD back in the early 2000's. I'm sure someone mentioned that only the Laser Disc releases contained the unaltered versions of the films. Last edited by CV19; 03-21-2024 at 04:22 PM. |

Was there any explanation as to why Disney did not produce enough discs to meet release day demand on The Abyss, True Lies or Aliens? It seems like the first two they would produce large quantities as these have not come out officially on Blu-ray before.

It seems to be the trend this year for big releases. I just place a pre order with everything these days.

Any one see DFIC latest self congratulating video? I understand he’s striving for quality but his delusional claims on knowing when a film wasn’t color timed properly really bug the crap out of me. Not saying that they’re aren’t some issues but unless one can compare against a film print that was approved by the creators it’s just preference. I think he’s basing his objections on what some films looked like on laserdisc.
He’s not helping physical media when he’s torpedoing nearly every major release which much of it is nitpicking over stuff most wouldn’t notice. |

I still don’t know who he is. But no different than many keyboard warriors here who claim, without looking at Kaleidescape and the disc, know what the intent of the video master looks like. Comparing the colour rendition of laser disc and DVHS without realizing (ignoring the fact?) that the colourspace for the laserdisc (601) and dvhs (709) are different than 4K (P3).
