OT Post: Computer Build

[Show spoiler]
Spouse has been after me for a new office computer so I did my research and procured the parts for a new build. It is based on a ASUS ProArt motherboard with Intel i7, 12th gen CPU.

This is my first Windows 11 Pro computer with a 1TB NVMe 2.0 SSD. Also have a WD 1TB SSD SATA drive installed and a hot swappable mobile rack tray.

This is ≈ the 15th build I have done for personal use and at work use. At work they would purchase computers suitable for office use but I needed one with FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports, at least 3 printer ports, mobile HDD racks, etc.

POOR THINGS was a big surprise for me and I was glad to have the opportunity to stream it, along with THE ZONE OF INTEREST (my eventual choice for film of the year) prior to enjoying the OSCARS...

Both were streamed in 4K in DV/ATMOS... I will hold off on both until UHDs are available.

I think some boutique label pissed off good old alchav by doing a new master of a movie he likes (that won't reach streaming anytime soon) and he's taking it out on us.

So far for me, film of the year is Aftersun, (I’m aware it was released last year) I honestly can’t see anything topping it from my purchases, although I’m looking forward to owning both the films you mentioned.

Oh, I wasn't aware you only collected new movies. That must really limit your collection. And out of curiosity, how long does a movie have to be out in your estimation for it to be old?

I watch plenty of streaming movies. Just this past month I've watched They Come Knocking, Cobweb and Hidden. Plus I have plenty of streaming content on disc:

I'm sure I have a few more but that was just off the top of my head. Not to mention the second wave of 4 Disney+ Steelbooks. And I know Jack Ryan and many other series have had disc releases. The Paramount+ Star Trek shows as well. So streaming content does make it to disc. And as streaming continues to lose money I'm sure we will see plenty of more releases.

The only person here limiting themselves is you since you ONLY do streaming. Missing a lot of great content.

Well I've built a lot of Computers throughout the Decades, going all the way back to the DOS days in the Bay Area. That's when I started to use SuperMicro MB, and haven't looked back. Now I have two Workstations, and mine that I've had for a Decade is an Intel Core i7, 2 Samsung 1TB SSD, with NVidia Graphics Card. Rock Solid Machines that last!

Very nice stealth build! That should keep you happy for a while. I'll be doing a new build later this year once the new Ryzen and Intel CPU's launch. Planning on doing my first custom water loop for this build. I've been saving for the build so plan to get the top of the line CPU from whichever team I go with. I'll hang on to my 3080 for another year or two so I can save up to get a top tier GPU. I've never gone all out with a build (as far as top end components) so I figured I would treat mysef finally.

Talk about Old Movies here is one by Steven Spielburg that was made back in 1971 for TV, watched it on TCM. I watch and Collect Old Movies too, but Streaming has a lot of good stuff Movies and Series worth talking about!

Yep, I have that one on Blu-ray in Spielberg boxed set. It was just released in 4K on disc as well but I'll stick with the Blu. Don't revisit it enough for an upgrade.

That one was for the wife. I will say was impressed with the speed Windows 11 Pro, WordPerfect Office and Microsoft Enterprise Office loaded to the Samsung 1TB NVMe drive. Have it on NVMe 2.0_1 slot so connected to the CPU.

Good luck on your build.

In case you missed it, moved my old build to a more roomy case awhile back, see pics. Have connected another ASUS Blu-ray drive in a external case. My Mac Mini sits on my office PC case and makes it look like something from the 70's.

Going to show my age. I used to on my HeathKit catalog because they offered the DEC (Digital Equipment Corp.) PDP-11-04 in kit form for $1500 and the printer/keyboard (terminal) for another $1500. For frame of reference, 3 years after this time I bought a new, very sporty car for $2900.

At work we had this same DEC computer as supplied by CMX for our CMX-340X edit system, some info here.

Thank you sir.

Very nice! Love the old roomy cases. Looking at a full tower for my next build. I'll need all that room.

It’s sweet, just don’t watch the bonus version on same disc.

I described my last computer build here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=645

I would NEVER consider building a computer that requires plumbing. High powered electrical components and liquids are not a combination that I care to risk.
