Well, yes. Yes, it is. Just like, oh, the following...

Why can't we all act like grown-ups and assume that someone is stating an opinion when they say something like either of the above quotes, instead of insisting that that someone explicitly state that they are expressing an opinion?

One might look at it as a rehash, but I disagree that the first one was better. I think the effects in SM2 were better, the script was tighter, and most of all, Molina gave a depth to the character of Dr. Octopus that was lacking in Dafoe's depiction of the Green Goblin. It's not often that the villain of the piece garners sympathy as a tragic figure, but Molina pulls it off masterfully. Dafoe just comes off as generic bat-shït crazy.
Maybe it's because of what happened to my Mum, but I was hooked on Guardians from the cold open and it never lost me once. It's rare a film holds my attention from start to finish, but even on my second viewing I had my eyes glued the whole time. I honestly think it is a near flawless masterpiece, people can complain about hyperbole and overhype all they like but I, personally, ADORE this film. It speaks to me on a deeply personal level, makes me laugh, cry and cheer and looks gorgeous doing it. Plan on going again next weekend.

I still think Avengers is incredibly flawed. I quite enjoyed the film when the Avengers were fighting amongst themselves - I always think one on one, or three on each other is much more entertaining than waves of enemies, which is part of why I love Man of Steel - but when the status quo was found I found the film really, really boring. Not only do the last forty or so minutes undermine what was being built up, but it was just a watered down version of the Battle for Chicago from Dark of The Moon. Really dull.

I also don't think the Avengers had the better cast, at all, like I say for personal reasons Quill speaks to be on a very deep level, and I grew an emotional connection to Rocket and Groot almost instantly which only grew stronger on my second viewing. Rogers and Stark have grown into strong characters but they've had many more movies, and cameo appearances to do so. If I think of the first Ironman film, the first Captain America film, despite not sharing the screen with a whole team I still don't think they were as well developed as the Guardians were in this film alone.

Also about Spider-Man, I thought Dafoe was perfect as Green Goblin but I will agree the special effects have not aged well at all.

5/5 stars easy.

Knowing all the characters in this for years really made this movie a wet dream for me. So awesome to see Thanos, Ronan, Yondu, Nebula, Drax, and others on the big screen!

The Avengers is quite possibly the most overrated film I can think of. I really think that Whedon gets credit for this masterpiece of summertime cinema, but really, it was "Meh." It's not as great as some (Guardians, Capp 1&2, Iron Man) and not as lifeless as others (Thor 1, Incredible Hulk). It ranks mid level within its own franchise of mostly better movies, slightly outranked by the likes of Thor 2.

It's Whedon. So of course it's overrated. That's kinda his middle name.

Good thing everyone has a valid opinion.

I guess I don't matter because I don't like The Avengers, Buffy, or Firefly. Fine. I can stick with other Marvel directors (past and present): James Gunn, Sam Raimi, etc.

Also, keep in mind, I never said it was bad. Just vastly overrated, and not as good as some (most) of the other films.

It's pretty overrated... but still an enjoyable movie, IMO. I don't know why they're disregarding your opinion... seems silly.

Buffy is f*cking awesome, for the record.

I have disliked everything I have seen of Buffy. Seems whiny.

Firefly is something I may have to watch a bit more of, as I bought Serenity for $2.50 a couple months back.

Never watched Buffy or Firefly so don't know what that has to do with anything.

It took me a while to really get into Buffy, but once I did, I was in love with it. Brilliant show, but I can understand why some people couldn't enjoy it.

Firefly is worth checking out again, for sure.
