Nothing as pedestrian as that... A land developer wants to buy up the neighbourhood. They have very grand plans and everyone in my neighbourhood has signed "contracts" with them contingent on me selling up.

My house is dead center of the most important street. None of the plans work unless I sell. It's gotten quite nasty as, up until recently, I had no plans to sell until my kids had finished school and had some idea of where they might want to settle. Now, I'm thinking my house won't be worth anything next year.
I would be staying put out of sheer stubbornness. No one has the right to make you feel bad about living in your home, absolutely no one.

That is tough one for sure. If they are throwing some decent money at you as a part of the land grab, that might be the way to go despite the hassle of potentially moving twice. Could you rent a house in the same area so your kids can stay in the same school?

Wow! So you are basically in the middle of a real life version of the plot from The Brady Bunch Movie! I hope you are current on your taxes!

Sounds a bit like an old British film from the early 50's called "The Happy Family" where the government want to build an exhibition centre on some land, however on the main road leading up to it is a solitary house with a family living in it who won't move out, despite financial incentives.

Seriously though, it's not nice at all when neighbours behave like that with you. I completely agree with Steedeel.

This has been beaten to death, but you don't own digital anything. They have huge legal teams and pull out the EULA you agreed to under duress. I went through this with music through a site called 7Digital. I lost an HDD where all this was stored and stupidly didn't have a backup. Many of my purchases were gone and when 7Digital finally replied to my inquiry, they told me I'm basically out of options as they can't restore it (either they lost the rights or my license expired). If you're going to buy digital goods, get them without DRM and backup, backup, backup! The sad part is that it feels like the media giants want to do away with physical simply for cost reasons but an all-digital future is a bad idea imo.

Yeah... I backed up all my CDs but now I don't know where the back up or the CDs are.

You have to be organized if you want to be able to go back and enjoy things at a later time.

that is stuff repeated on forums. Music is still released on records and CDs, movies on DVD/BD/UHD BD. if it sells the media giants will release on it because they want those profits.

No successful Company wants to take a loss, if they are just Breaking Even or making a small Profit they will cut that Cost. Bottom Line the Studios will concentrate on what makes the most Profit!

???

Do you know how profitable most streaming services are?

"Few developments are as well-suited to Disney as streaming. With an archive of more than 8,000 hours of content spanning more than eight decades, it was a no-brainer to offer subscribers online access to it. However, a flaw buried deep in the business model of the Disney+ streaming platform has turned it from Disney's prince charming into an ugly duckling."

"Disney+ has burned up more than $11.4 billion of operating losses since it was launched and isn't forecast to even make a profit until the end of the year. It would have been so easy to prevent this from happening."

https://www.forbes.com/sites/carolin...h=10b3677c3b34

Physical Media made a little over billion dollars last year. So ... a decades worth of sales would help pay back some of Disney+ loss.

It is true that in terms of losing money you can't compare PM with Streaming. Physical media makes money. Steaming bakes money.

@Wendell, you may want to avoid Monkey Man (4K coming later this year) as it has excessive hand held camerawork for much of the action.

Why do you always have to make yourself sound so ridiculous?

You do realize Disney and most streaming companies are constantly saying to us that they have massive losses?

Physical media is always sold at a very decent profit, no matter how delusional you choose to be, you are not paying for the physical media but for the content on it. But like I said " if it sells the media giants will release on it because they want those profits." so your little comment missed the mark completely since I never said they will sell movies at a loss. Truth is (like with LD) isf teh market one day becomes too slim even if physical media becomes too niche it is possible that some giants will decide not to pay attention to those profits because they can't be bothered with the hassle. BUT like with LD then you can get a re-birth of small studios buying the rights from those majors ande doing the releasing.
