I took your advice and I added this title to my digital collection that I may see it sooner, as well as in 4K, and that I may also share it with my friends.

Having a friend who refuses to watch anything with sub titles was a bummer.
Now more and more people want captions on for everything.

Good thing I like watching movies alone.

No. I do not. Sub titles don't bother me either.

Some prefer captions on including a couple of people that watched The Prestige with me last night.

Thankfully, as I said, I do enjoy watching movies alone and that's most of what happens lately. A friend is coming to watch Dune tomorrow and there will be no captions. I just hope he doesn't fall asleep.

I’m the same. Watch films alone except when I’m dating, which is around three or four months every three or four years.

I am so comfortable in my own company it’s scary.

My wife doesn't care for subtitles so we rarely watch foreign movies together. She also isn't as interested in going to the theater anymore. Maybe one movie every month or two. I watch about 95% of movies alone so I'm used to it.

I like watching international content so sub or dub I am up for either. But I agree with you CC I find is a bit annoying. I think part of it is that I can't help but read it at the same time so it becomes a bit distracting. I think people that like the CC are people that are not used watch things correctly in their home (sound too low, so sometimes miss things, not fully paying attention, playback issues from streaming....) so they see it as a fall back "what did the person say?".

I'm the only one in the family that watches foreign films so everyone drops out when they see subtitles. My only issue with them is that I understand just enough French (victim of the Ontario school system) and Spanish (Hispanic ex) to pick out errors in translation. context etc... yet not enough to go without them...

My wife and I never go to the cinema anymore, for all the obvious reasons. I was a little bummed when both my kids independently came to the conclusion a couple of years ago that they would rather watch at home. My son because "the bass is better" ( I admit to juice marginally above reference and...transducers.)...My daughter because audiences are not respectful of the experience... In high school , she used to come home from "watch parties" because her friends would usually throw a movie on NETFLIX, with the CC on and then treat it like some kind of background ambience..

Go to the specific thread's listing on the "Forum" page and click on the number of replies for that thread. It opens up a list of members in order of who replied most to least within that thread.

Thanks, you know why I need to check.

I am doing just that; I want you to have all the credit that you deserve. By the way, you're firmly #1 in this thread at 9081 posts.

I agree. I have no problem with English subtitles for other spoken languages but I can't stand having English subtitles with English dialogue. I don't want to read all of the dialogue before I hear it.

Can someone flip and switch and take away all your internet movies ?

[Show spoiler]Of course they can.

That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be able to access the films and TV shows they had bought.

This isn’t simply a case of Netflix removing Friends from the service when a content agreement runs out. These were films and shows people had bought with the expectation they could watch them whenever they wanted – indefinitely.

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services

https://www.theguardian.com/media/ar...aming-services

"Now firmly in the streaming age, ownership is largely subject to the terms and conditions people often do not read, a lecturer in computing and information systems at Melbourne University, Shaanan Cohney, said."

Here is the main point ---

It is not reasonable to expect consumers to read these terms and conditions [but] in the case of Telstra TV box office, they had a whole section on how they were able to withdraw content.”

I say it's completely reasonable to read the terms and conditions and why the hell would you assume that's optional? In many cases you have to acknowledge that you have in fact read them and agreed to them and they are easy to read these days. There's a part about forgetting about class action lawsuits and a part that says whatever you buy doesn't belong to you. It is the terms and conditions that apply to you as someone who is handing over actual money. I don't jump in a pool before checking to see if there's water in it. A proper rental which you know is very temporary could be a case where you don't sweat the details but some people SPEND real life money on cloud movies that are owned and managed by someone else. Some people spend thousands of dollars on virtual items.

Always been the case. I’m very secure in my position to stick with disc, it makes more sense every day. Even in a future world of streaming, I can access discs at any time and enjoy an ad free, high quality experience. It’s just a case of stocking up more discs over the coming years and I will have enough to enjoy for many years, while making do with whatever streaming becomes.

Now is a great time to be a disc collector. Many will join us when they realise what a rip off digital movies are in a few short years.
