Nice haul but be warned - the Nosferatu Blu-ray from Kino has missing frames. It's a mess of a release.

There is also a zombie shark in Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead.

Smokey and the Bandit is one of several films that I thought were great as a kid (I was 10 years old when the first film came out), but didn't really like them very much when I grew a little older. Other examples were the Cannonball Run films.

You are quite right with regards to the sequels. Bandit 2 was definitely worse, and the less said about the third, the better. It was terrible in my opinion. Even the great Jackie Gleason couldn't save it, and Burt Reynolds only makes a very brief cameo appearance.

Here in the UK all three films were released on blu-ray in a boxset a few years ago.

I would check in your loft if I were you just to make sure they're not nesting there. A pest controller will soon take care of that for you, but it's still a nuisance nevertheless.

No sign mate, it’s a converted loft so it gets used a fair amount. No sign of any.

like it literally says "recordable media business" so not rom. and probably not just BD. the reality si there was a time they made sense as a transfer device and select backup. But BD-R are way too expensive and CD/DVD are way too small, also most computers don't have drives.

honestly except for people that do "home back-ups of content can't imagine any use for them any more. And even at that they are pretty useless.

BD-R are not expensive at all, at least for the 25 gb size. A spindle of 50 Verbatim 25 gb BD-R discs cost just $40.81. That's just 82 cents per disc.

50 gb dual layer BD-R discs are another matter; they are not cheap, but they don't seem expensive to me. A spindle of 25 50 gb BD-R discs cost $78.31, or $3.13 per disc.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LPM2CU8...v_ov_lig_dp_it

It is true that most newer computers do not have 5.25 inch bays to accommodate internal blu-ray drives, but it is very easy and affordable to get an external blu-ray drive that connects via USB.

I still use blank optical discs from CD-R to 50 gb dual layer BD-R, but I know that I am very much in the minority, but when haven't I been?

it was more reminiscing on my part than anything else there was a time when i worked in IT and the best way to distribute content was to burn it on a blank. Cheap every computer had a drive, could be e-mailed if I could not go in person much more space then USB keys... none of that has been true for a long time.

A Quiet Place III was fun and the Dolby Cinema presentation was insane. The 4K disc will be demo-worthy like the first two films were.

Horizon is up next tonight!

I've been using the SmartBuy brand BD-Rs for awhile and those are ~$25 after S&H for a 50pk. Verbatim used to be better when they were made in Japan by Mitsubishi. They are now made in Taiwan I think by CMC so no better than any of the cheaper ones. They work fine as long as you use slow burn speeds. I have had great success on a Pioneer 212 burner. I have two different writers in those OWC Mercury USB 3.0 external enclosures.

I am just hoping it doesn't mean the beginning of the end for movies on physical. I am not signing up for streaming and I am not "purchasing" something on a service where the fine print says I don't actually own anything.

I did not have the same experience as you. Saw it in IMAX on a large screen.

If I ever use up my existing supply of Verbatim blank discs, I will give those a closer look.

I have considered getting an internal Pioneer burner after my brand new LG internal burner promptly died. I am using the warranty replacement now, but I have a couple of Pioneer models in my wishlist just in case history repeats itself.

I think that this news only affects one single brand of blank optical disc media and nothing more.

I've had terrible luck with LG burners. I had two that died within a year. I now strictly use Pioneers. I think I still have an ASUS that is a couple years old but that one is only a reader, not a writer.
