\Like I said I get why others like having a media server and I do have one for PVR. It is nice that I can record in one room and then watch the content in any room. But I feel I can dio that with BD already, and the sheer time and cost in disk space that it will take to do that for all the thousands of disks i have just puts me off from it. As to your second point fully agree with you no matter how good the present is I love that we can always get a better future as technology gives us that freedom.

[Show spoiler]

I have not made a top ten but I'm fairly sure the Shark Movie I get tomorrow would not make the cut. The Reef is certainly one of my favorites and it's certified freaking awesome.

I have it on Blu-ray. Incidentally, Tubi just launched last week here. As I understand it, it’s nowhere near as good as the U.S version. I suppose it needs time.

So my MaXXXine plans for tonight have been thwarted because I haven't gotten around to watching Pearl yet -- was a long day at work yesterday. I'm not feeling like going outside today and there's a heatwave here, so watching programming in an AC cooled dwelling is more my jam.

I ended up finding another cool deal on eBay for the "Rescue Me" Complete Series on Blu-ray for $35 shipped. That should arrive in a few days.

Tonight is the last time that I will be watching a movie on my old TV, my 85" Sony X900F, as my new 85" Bravia 9 is due to arrive tomorrow. I have to decide what title to watch; I am inclined to revisit Field Of Dreams, but this time on 4K disc.

I will be giving my old TV away to the sister of the friend that drives me to all of my medical appointments. I gave my friend first chance at it, but he declined my offer as they (i.e. his wife) felt that this TV was just too big.

My friend's sister lives just a few blocks away from me and she does a whole lot for me, too, so I am happy that my old TV will be going to her.

I don't get the "too big" but enjoy your new TV and if you are anything like me it always feels good when you find a good place for your old stuff. I love giving old stuff a way, sure beats ending up in the garbage or even a recycling center.

One of the best things about forums like this is to hear perspectives of people from different parts of the world... interesting even in the diversity that exists within the English speaking world alone...

I've recently spent some time in the UK and have travelled extensively throughout the US... but you have me at a loss..

What is this phrase you are using - too big? in reference to displays.... what exactly does that mean in your neck of the woods?

The irony is that my friend has a vastly bigger home than either me or his sister, but his wife doesn't want a TV "dominating" their living room. It's a home decor thing with her. Oh well. All I could do was make the offer.

My old TV is still working great and I have been very happy with it. I hope it's new owner will enjoy it as much as I have.

I think it is due to HGTV (or equivalent). A big black screen does not look good on the TV and it is covering that wallpaper ( fancy pain....) the designer picked. So they sold the idea to the public that we should all pretend that nobody watches TV 9and if they do stick it above the boring fireplace (or in acorner) at an awkward angle that gives you a stiff neck.

I think it's funny that the two Canadians made the same joke...lol...

For years my in laws have inherited my older gear... their entire living room setup TV (55" SONY), SOUND (7.1 PIONEER/PARADIGM) , various media players and many components in their Florida condo are castoffs from my home.

I'm not much of an environmentalist... but I realized years ago that I actually enjoy sourcing out used or refurbished gear on hobbies sites...my current JVC projector came from an AVS member from your neck of the woods...

My plans for where I'm going to end up geographicly are in a state of flux...I can't see staying here (although my wife just out of the blue applied for Canadian citizenship - on the 4th of July of all days lol..)... I always wondered whether or not I would buy all new for the uber theater to be built in the retirement home...or whether the garage sale side of me would win out...

Ha! Definitely didn’t put that in Google. It popped up in one of the deals page and of course I clicked on it based on the title…..but did not order it. I will leave that responsibility to our resident shark movie expert.

By the way, the Samsung Frame tv would be a good option for that lady, looks like a picture frame when not in use.

My Dick Shark movie arrived claiming to have over 10 hours of "footage."

While in town I picked up another cinematic masterpiece Sky Sharks.

Edit - Ok I can review this (Dick Shark) now... I have not seen all of the 10 hours but that's beside the point because a couple of minutes tells the whole story. I've seen a lot of shark movies with some truly "special" effects. I've sometimes wondered if they couldn't have done a better job using simple bath toys to represent the sharks. And here they have done it! This movie is biker dudes and gals in various stages of undress occasionally throwing a shark toy around. It's amazing is how simple of a concept it really boils down to. On the positive side some of the people look ok naked. I don't think I own any 2D p0rn so I guess now I do. I think "This Aint Jaws 3D" is possibly better and that's saying a lot.

The same guy that made dickshark also made this if you feel the need to be a completist. Expect it to be just as bad.

That may be one of the special features on this set. Edit - I was incorrect. There is a special feature called Frankenstien and it's a short but quite a bit better production valued film and at the end they said it was a draft for something they planned to title Frankenstien's Woe

I was going to post over in the MOVIE THEATERS thread, but I think anything I think on this matter would just be construed as trolling or threadcrapping...

In their discussions, people are reporting 25 to 40 minutes of ads being shown before the feature..... I know some of you still attend.. but serious question WHY WOULD YOU SUBJECT YOURSELF TO THIS???

I gave up on trying to recreate the "cinema experience" in my HT a while back and along the way, came up with an experience, that to ME, is actually better. It is now more about recreating that feeling of excitement, grandeur and envelopment in experiencing something spectacular than about the tech or furnishings.

..and while I get that this balance will be different for different people with differing budgets, space considerations and even technological tolerance thresholds.... surely....40 god damned minutes of wasted life BEFORE you get what you paid for has to completely obliterate the scale.... HOLY CRAP.. We've discussed small ads before the feature and the ever shrinking differences between streamed and physical presentation...does anyone here think that these compare to an undetermined random amount of filler that determines when you get to actually start your movie?

Sorry...my head just exploded clear off of my shoulders. I have to go scrape brain matter off of my ceiling...Fortunately, there doesn't appear to be all that much....

I go to the theater a lot. In general I enter the theater 10-15 minutes before the designated showtime. The ads are generally about 15 minutes long. During the ads I read. There are generally 4-7 trailers that follow the ads and if you add those in the total time is typically around 20 minutes. These stats are for Regal Cinemas.
