I gave up on trying to recreate the "cinema experience" in my HT a while back and along the way, came up with an experience, that to ME, is actually better. My experience is similar to Russ, not too intrusive and even if they were 10-15 minutes longer, it’s not a huge deal to me. I can talk with friends or family, check my phone, go for a drink or more snacks, if it’s actual trailers, I usually enjoy them.
If I’m going out to see a movie, I don’t mind some compromises.

At home, my setup is a a good standard and I can please myself, so not too worried as I go for a night out doing my favourite thing, watching movies.

Having both options is heaven sent. That’s the way I want it to stay.

It depends on what you consider ads. At my local AMC there is maybe 5 minutes at most of actual commercials before the movie starts. Then there is anywhere from 15-20 minutes of trailers, which I actually love and is an integral part of the movie going experience for me. My whole family picks on me because I get upset if I'm late for the trailers. I love seeing trailers on the big screen. Much better than just watching them on YouTube.

So yes, I sit through around 5 minutes of ads for a 2+ hour experience that brings me nothing but joy. An easy trade off. Even if I were a millionaire and had a home theatre to rival any commercial experience I would still go to the movies 2-3 times a week. I say that because I'm assuming if I'm a millionaire I won't be working 2 jobs and will actually have time to do so . But I will always love the movie theatre experience, as I have since I was a child.

OK... I figured that there was SOMETHING that I was missing...so the posted showtime is actually when the feature starts?

That's actually the hardest part for me. I know that I want to watch a movie like 5 minutes before I'm stuck in.

I check the time and decide whether I have enough gas in the tank to not fall asleep within the next 90 to 180 minutes.. I go down, invoke the command to fire up the theater, hit the bathroom and grab my snacks and beverage... I set my adjustable bed to the right comfort level and hit play...movie starts instantaneously..

No, posted showtime is when the pre-show starts. Usually a commercial or 2 and then the trailers.

The posted showtime is when the ads typically begin. 90% of the time I see the matinee so sometimes they start around 5 minutes late. The feature usually starts about 20-25 minutes after the listed showtime.

I guess the other factor is that somewhere along the line, I personally started to consider trailers as unwanted ads...

When I was younger, I used to consider them part of the experience as well, and loved feeling the excitement of learning about a new movie that I'd previously not known was coming...that I wouldn't be seeing for some time...

Although, I'm sure THEY haven't changed, I now view them as massive spoilers for something that the internet told me was in production, that I'll be seeing in too short of an order to forget what I may have seen in the trailer...LOL

Personally I enjoy watching trailers but absolutely agree that some of them give too much away. It's typical to see 2 and sometimes 3 different trailers for a single film.

The bottom line is, both ways are fantastic. My preference is home cinema, but I also like to go to the flicks, and it’s supporting the industry at the end of the day.
If we all just watched at home, we wouldn’t have blockbusters.

I'm getting this Friday. I found it for $22 on DiabolikDVD as opposed to >$40 anywhere else I looked. I have had a DVD of it for some time now and have been meaning to upgrade but thought it went OOP.

While I enjoy the odd blockbuster, they form an increasingly smaller percentage of what I watch year over year..

Whenever Tarantino releases his last, it will probably be the last time I attended... I'm pretty sure it'll be shown at the venue I will watch it at without a single trailer...like when they screened OUATIH...

Yeah DUNE 2 and OPPENHEIMER were great! I can't think of anything else that I would consider a BLOCKBUSTER from last year... maybe CIVIL WAR which looked and sounded great even streamed... looking forward to the disc.

My favourite movie of last year was ALL OF US STRANGERS watched in 4K with ATMOS streaming.. picked up the Bluray in London but haven't watched yet...still on Italian time (falling asleep too early and waking up at 4am LOL).. but will definitely revisit before picking up the recently announced north american UHD..

Now there's a title that I delightfully saw with absolutely NO knowledge of beforehand...no trailer, no spoiler...no knowledge of genre - which it turned out to defy classification of...

Fantastic film, I think I mentioned it a few weeks back but Aftersun was also incredible. Highly recommend a blind buy if you enjoyed AOUS.

Furiosa was great, my most anticipated of next year is Mission Impossible 8.

I would have gone to MaXXXine which showed as comming soon at my nearest theater on Thursday before dropping off the list and now nowhere near me.

To go to the actual theater I would have to be into the movie. When I was younger and lived in Miami I would often just go and pick something.

Maxxxine is the next movie I'm waiting to see... will probably stream it before buying a German UHD like I did with the first two instalments...

Since this one is set in Hollywood I would be surprised if it didn't receive a domestic UHD release. Honestly the entire trilogy should get a deluxe box set.

I haven't been to a theater in over 20 years and have zero interest in ever going again. Much prefer watching an anticipated film in the comfort of my own home.

I have both of these, but only because Erin Brown aka Misty Mundae is in them and I thought she had retired. She's also in Nightmare on Elmo's Street from the same director.
