You got further than I did.
![]() Every time that the U.S. Post Office raises its prices he builds another wall of text, like this one, where he insists that discs will go up in price the exact same % as did the postal rates. This in turn fuels his prediction that there will be an acceleration in the decline of disc sales culminating in a physical media doomsday. ![]() |

![]() What gets me, beyond some of his outlandish opinions and predictions, is how he writes these "article"-like posts, in which he isn't really taking part in a discussion (which is kind of the point of a discussion forum), but rather he is taking at people, rather than with them. It is.... interesting.... to say the least. |

The new beta version of TVOS for ATV4K has a 21:9 mode for projectors.
I'm curious how that works and if every "app" for the ATV4K supports it. At any rate it's nice to see TVOS add something related to the actual usability of the ATV4K. The ATV4K is certainly my choice for anything streaming related. The Android TV OS is also a little interesting because it's so readily hackable it's possible to remove ads for the interface. Edit - Downloading the beta TVOS now to check out the 21:9 feature. edit 2 - Kind of excited about this new TVOS feature but it seems like it's not really available yet unless I downloaded the wrong beta. I was offered a choice between public and developer beta. I watched a few videos hoping to learn more about this feature but it seems no one understands it. It is most likely a case of too little too late as anyone who still loves projector's will most likely already own one with lens memory making this feature irrelevant. And I don't believe he's even got 4K (anything) or Atmos, so when he waxes hypothetical about going 8K (or future tech) or some shit, I'm like, "Sure, Jan." |

Apple fixed the issue with the 4K DV not being on the Horizon Chapter 1 digital 4K on their site. It's full 4K DV/Atmos now.
I started up on Vikings: Valhalla S3 on Netflix. It's in 4K DV/Atmos. I'm 4 episodes in on that one. Amazon PRIME DAY is on and ordered Batman (1989) 4K disc for $10.99 and The Flash 4K disc for $11.99. |

Just exchanged my cable modem at Optimum, the new one is a Arris Tochstone CM8200. Speed test showed download at 500 Mbps and the upload is still 20 Mbps. Old one download was 260 Mbps. Will be interesting to see the speeds during prime time.

These numbers were just posted from Nelson. The usage time spent streaming in June 2024 is 40.3%, time spent watching over the air ATSC broadcast TV is 20.5%, time spent watching Cable TV is 27.2%. I believe the other category at 12.0% is for satellite TV and physical optical media.

"Methodology/FAQ What is included in “other”? Within The Gauge, “other” includes all other TV usage that does not fall into the broadcast, cable or streaming categories. This primarily includes all other tuning (unmeasured sources), unmeasured video on demand (VOD), audio streaming, gaming and other device (DVD playback) use. Beginning with the June 2023 interval, Nielsen began utilizing Streaming Content Ratings to identify original content distributed by platforms reported in that service to reclassify content viewed via cable set top boxes. This viewing will credit to streaming and to the streaming platform which distributed it. It will also be removed from the other category, where it was previously reflected. Content not identified as original within Streaming Content Ratings and viewed through a cable set top box will still be included in other." https://www.nielsen.com/data-center/the-gauge/ Note that satellite TV is NOT listed as an example of an "unmeasured source." If something is an "unmeasured source" then how can Nielsen assign any % value to any specific part of the "other" category? I fail to see how Nielsen could know how much time I use my TV to watch physical media. "Other" is probably just the % leftover when they add up all of the viewing sources that they can measure subtracted from 100%. Nielsen also says this about their methodology: "How is ‘The Gauge’ created? The data for The Gauge is derived from two separately weighted panels and combined to create the graphic. Nielsen’s streaming data is derived from a subset of Streaming Meter-enabled TV households within the National TV panel. The linear TV sources (broadcast and cable), as well as total usage are based on viewing from Nielsen’s overall TV panel." It looks like satellite TV households are not even a part of their "overall TV panel." There is zero mention of satellite TV in Nielsen's The Gauge. It is possible that Nielsen considers cable TV and satellite TV to be essentially the same thing because both are just pay TV subscription services, but that is just speculation on my part.
