Kurt Russell suits just about all his roles. One of my favorite actors.

I was at STONEHENGE on the summer solstace... built a thousand years before the pyramids... 8 centuries of human effort to lug these rocks miles and miles for the prevailing fairytale of the day.

A couple of days later, at the COLLOSEUM in Rome, I took a quiet moment with my daughter. As we looked around, I asked her to imagine 50,000 plus people having a shared experience watching an event in this venue almost 2,000 years ago....everyone of them living a life with joys, concerns and fears that they were stepping out of for a few hours... just like us when we attend a GREENDAY concert in a couple of days at the ROGERS CENTRE.. 2 out of 50,000... centuries apart..

..But nothing could have prepared me for what we saw at POMPEII....Still largely unexcavated... the site is MASSIVE.. and largely frozen in time.. It wasn't ravaged by the pettiness of christendom like the ROMAN FORUM.

Some major shifts happen in and instant, some you can see coming.. worrying about them is wasteful... but that doesn't mean you don't try to minimize their impact on you and your loved ones.

Buy up as much physical media as you can so you'll have something to watch when the powers that be try to force you to stream.... or move your family out of the northern hemisphere in preperation for the breakup of NATO...

There is enough doom and gloom in my personal life to keep me going until the end of the decade, something to look forward to anyway!

I did hope that VR would become this incredible tool to visit far off lands and major wonders in 4K detail for those that aren’t able, but alas, the young ones are more interested in daft dance routines and talking cats on their phones.

Your son should like my setup (below). The LG Blu-ray drive has been replaced with a ASUS drive. Have another ASUS in a Vanteck external case that sits on top, can do 3 at a time.

Disc copy is very little trouble compared to recording and editing shows recorded via OTA in the US. Did that for several years. Watching the series “Moonlight” now that CBS aired. Of course this is nothing compared to 7 to 9 hours a day I spent manual editing on 3 Ampex AVR-1's.

[Show spoiler]

nihilistic today?

For me it is about pragmatism. Everything has its time. It does not mean everything will go at once. Some times it is as simple as a small fish grows bigger than the big fish and then it swallows' it up and eventually re-brands or dismantles it.

I recommend this if you haven't seen it. A friend of mine said it was the best thing Pink Floyd ever did but I suppose that's easily DSotM. You can find it in HD I'm certain. I have it on this DVD and a Blu as part of the early years box set.

come on you know that we live in a world of click bait and nothing more. For me social media/video is just a new form of gossip. For a day and age where we are all more and more disconnected from each other.

VR is a tough sell. I enjoy it a lot but I only watch immersive videos on it. Anything else is better done with something else. You can do word processing in VR but for me a proper computer or nice laptop is more comfortable.

It does have many practical uses though. Maybe when Apple is able to make a wireless version that is a bit more durable than the AVP it will help drive adoption.

Yes and more importantly their work is timeless and eternal.

I have tickets to see David Gilmour in Nov. !

So excited. I have seen many Pink Floyd, Roger Waters and David Gilmour concerts over the years and it's easy for me to think this is the last time.

It’s a detailed study Anthony, across a wide demographic. Short form is definitely having an impact, there are early warning signs it (short form) could dominate the entertainment landscape far more than now.

It’s great for gaming, sadly the masses don’t care for immersion.

The masses I have seen (very small sample size) have about 4 puzzle games that they do EVERY DAY without fail. Connections, Crossword, Word Search. Then they post about how fast they completed them. Either way, "phone time" is a thing just after dinner and everyone needs a certain amount of time to let these things agitate them in order to live a balanced life.

it is not a detailed study but an assumption that IMHO is wrong. when we were both in our 20s what were people doing in a weighting rooms they might have read the magazines there , they might talk to others there they might... today a lot watch social videos on their phones. And when we were both in our 20s the best way to find out what was new with our friends was to go out (or someone's home) and hang out, today many have "fake friends: that they try to gather the news using social media

Unless they tell us how many don't watch shows and movies any more it is pure drivel. What they used to do with their other free time and what they do now is irrelevant.

I'm trying to figure out to do strenuous things that need doing without, well, straining myself.

Procrastination is my favorite method, but I overuse it.

I think the study was behind a paywall with the text just summarising their findings.

I have an older 360 camera that I used to take with me to Florida...I once recorded a walk around of Key West which, when played back through a SAMSUNG VR setup, gave the viewer a really cool sense of walking beside me as I navigated the basis streets and waterways... at the time, it was really quite mind blowing!

I thought about taking the camera with me on this trip, but ultimately decided against it as I wanted it to be about so much more than waking around with a selfie stick recording things for videos that I'd struggle to playback on hardware that I'd have to locate and dust off somewhere in my house...lol

I have heard from a reliable source that watching filth on it is groundbreaking too.

I don't think everything will go at once... but there is an excellent article in today's NATIONAL POST that every Canadian should read detailing some things that I've been saying for years about our ability to remain sovereign... Canada, like everything else (yes, including the good old US of A) is not too big to fail... every iteration of human existence has made the same foolish assumption...
