The KZ3 beta will be exclusive to PS+ members only, the first 10,000 PS+ members to download the KZ3 theme (available Oct 19th) will be in the beta. 5,000 members from NA and 5,000 from EU.

Beta is live October 25th and will not support PS Move or 3D.

I'd imagine this will push more than a few people over the edge. I wonder how my PS+ members there are, what's the competition like to get into this. Maybe 5,000 people haven't even signed up yet. Then I could download the theme a week later and still get in!

Yes, the Killzone 3 Public Beta Trial really is coming! Just like its predecessor, the multiplayer mode for Killzone 3 will be put through rigorous testing at the hands of the toughest, most demanding critics in existence: you, the fans. The Trial starts on October 25th and access is limited, so please read the following instructions carefully if you want to know how to secure a spot in the Public Beta:

• Be(come) a Plus subscriber
• With the exception of a handful of key media partners and selected PAX feedback participants, access to the Killzone 3 Public Beta Trial is limited to PlayStation Plus subscribers. If you’re not enjoying the many benefits of Plus membership yet, now’s the time to sign up!
• Download the theme
• On October 19th, an exclusive Killzone 3 XMB Theme will appear in the Plus section of the PlayStation Store. The first 10,000 Plus subscribers to download this theme (5,000 SCEA Plus subscribers and 5,000 SCEE Plus subscribers) will receive access to the Public Beta Trial.
• Check your email

I'll be missing out on the beta, don't really feel the need to get playsation+ at this time.

now if they had a Gt5 beta or battlefield beta on PS+ then i would get it, but only as a 'monthly member' and then cancel my membership

that is a good idea.
get a monthly membership 2xs a year and download everything for free up to that point.
the key is getting the PS+ membership when a beta comes out thats only PS+ accessible

Would work for the BETA, but I am pretty sure any of the freebies that you download off of PS+ no longer work once you are no longer a PS+ member.

Yeah i agree. when i first heard the news i very nearly subscribed to PS+ there and then but on second thoughts im glad i didnt.
PS+ doesnt offer much for me personaly, i dont play mini games or download much DLC so i would be paying all that money for a beta
I feel really put out that the KZ3 beta is for a very small % of PS+ members only

Free content is removed monthly as well, so you'll only be able to download what's currently available at the time you subscribe. After your subscription expires you won't have access to the free stuff you got.

I'm extremely happy with my PS+ membership. Seems like the only thing people have been complaining about is beta access. I would have never thought to buy Mushroom Wars/Zen Pinball if it weren't for PS+ but I've now played that game a LOT. PS+ is exposing me to games I didn't even know about because I wasn't a big PSN game downloader.
On top of that, all of the sudden there are a number of betas that will be available for PS+ members. Everyone expected to get all this stuff instantly when the signed up...it's a year long subscription, add all this up over a year and you'll see it's well worth $50.
Obviously this is just my opinion, but it seems to me that the people who don't like PS+ are all about instant gratification. They want $50 worth of content/extras the moment they sign up...if you want to get technical, PS+ is only really worth $4/month in content so any month where I download more than $4 of stuff is a win month for me.
