Seems now Lincoln is front runner for Best Picture. In which I am certainly happy about. The way the Oscars go, I would say that Amour has really the only chance of taking it from Lincoln.

Snow White over TDKR for visual effects? Now that is just pathetically laughable.

No John Hawkes for Best Actor? Just watched it last night, thats a snub.

That means this year (The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Hunger Games, Skyfall, & Breaking Dawn) would automatically be nominated leaving the Academy to pick the other 5!! As you can see...NONE of these films were nominated this year!! Instead they always pick these "Artsy" films that no one has seen! I don't know about you guys...but i'm getting sick of it!!!

Love your Home Theater photos by the way. NICE!!! Cute little girl as well.

My god people...get a grip on yourselves.

Academy Award for Best Performance at the Box Office? There's no mystery there. Box Office Mojo will tell you all you need to know.

Just ignore Kurtis21, if he wants to rave about how money making film are better made than the ones nominated then he can.

wow, call me stupid but when did they up the Best Picture Nom's to 9???

Anyways, Les Mis, Lincoln, and Zero Dark Thirty are the only big players here. I'm not saying the others suck, it's just the movies themselves and who shot them.

They upped it to 10 so they could accept Pixar films as best picture, but when Cars 2 came out, they reduced the rule so that if a film gets over 5% of voted it can be accepted, minimum 5 - maximum 10.

Starting in 2009 season, after the academy got criticized big time for snubbing WALL-E and The Dark Knight the year before.

Because if more than one actor gets nominated from the same movie, they run the risk of cancelling each other out.

Iremember that year when it got bumped to 7 or 8 but I thought they took it back down to 5 for last years.

My OCD really hates it. I don't see why they couldn't just add one more pic to make it ten.

I thought both were great, but I would of taken Leo over Waltz for Django.

To me, Christoph Waltz was more of a lead character than Jamie Fox's character.

Up or Inglorious Basterds should've won that year anyway.

As far as critiquing the oscar nomination patterns. I'm with Ernest Rister in the sense that I would like to see the Academy expand on being more inclusive to genres outside of drama when it comes to their Best Picture nominations. This year, the only darkhorses I was really pulling to get a Best Picture nom was Looper or Skyfall. Neither The Avengers nor The Dark Knight Rises deserved it.

I think the Academy rallied around Hurt Locker to keep Avatar from winning.
