Guess we'll get an Aladdin 2/3 double release by the end of the year?

The main benefit over the international release is 7.1 audio. Until Digital can give me uncompressed picture quality and the same sound channels as Blu, count me out.

I will never ever prefer digital over physical. My collector heart will not allow it! With digital you don't actually buy the movies, you just buy a license to own them which can be taken away from you at any time!

Think straight, Disney!

Physical vs Digital is like the old saying "You don't buy beer, you rent it."

Think about that for a second.

how? we are still buying the physical media, the digital copy is an added bonus. it's not that different from "way back" when a dvd with the digital copy and a code to transfer it to a computer was included. Digital copy or not, we'd still buy the disc, personally I would, anyway. There is a reason we're part of a site dedicated to the blu-ray format.

A lot of people even on this forum seem more interested in whether they get a digital copy, Vudu or iTunes file, etc. etc. than the content of the disc itself.

Studios look at this and can only surmise that people want in the cloud content instead. They only look at the data that supports their ultimate wishes... no more physical media. Period. That way they have a total lock on content in your "collection." It's virtual ownership... meaning you paid good money for possible vapor ware that evaporates like smoke whenever the industry feels like it.

Already have the UK version, which contains plenty of extras and works in US blu ray players, so probably won't be buying this one. Same happened with 101 Dalmatians and Dumbo. By the time Disney decided to let people in the US finally have what other countries already had, many of us had already bought the import ones. Even if it contains a digital copy, this is not enough to sway me. I'll spend the money elsewhere.

This is interesting because I buy the movies with digital copies, redeem the digital copies, and have never watched the digital copies since I rarely watch anything on PC or phone. At this point I'm beginning to think I should just begin selling them cheap on here or throwing them up on eBay.

Hey, I don't know about the countless others, but for me personally, I LOVE buying the Blu-ray and hope that physical media NEVER goes away. It's just a nice little extra added bonus getting the Digital HD and being able to play it on your smartphone or tablet if you want to. Plus the Digital copy takes up less storage space than the Blu-ray. However, I will still continue to buy Blu-rays because I love the artwork as well as Special store exclusives like Steelbooks and Digibooks. The Digital copy is just a really nice bonus though.

I'm all about physical media. I can definitely see Disney vaulting their digital movies so you can't watch them until they say you can. I don't care about my music being in the cloud, but movies/tv shows I need to be able to physically own them.

Currently, those who have previously redeemed the Digital Copies of Disney films have yet to lose access even though those films are now in the vault. I have been able to access The Lion King on DMA from Day One (with a nice upgrade to HD).

As it has been stated before, it seems that DMA may be signaling the end of the vault.

Yes, exactly! I've had several instances with three different digital services where a certain movie that I have previously purchased is suddenly pulled and no longer available to rent or buy. My purchased copy though is still completely intact and still there for me to stream and watch, so I don't understand why some people think and are saying that any purchased movie could eventually be pulled and that you will lose it because it's just NOT true.

The same goes for all my previously redeemed digital copies. Haven't lost a single one.

Re: digital copies and Disney... I don't use digital copies, I think they're useless, but for those who do this issue may arise in the future.

We all know Disney loves updating their films, removing bits of dialogue (Aladdin), grain (most Diamond Editions), adding and/or removing scenes (The Lion King, Pocahontas), reanimating/cropping controversial shots (The Little Mermaid, Fantasia) etc...

The problem with digital copies is that if Disney one day decides that the smoking in Pinocchio is inappropriate or Ariel's shell bra is too revealing all they have to do is update their servers with a new version of the film, removing or adding whatever they want and suddenly you're stuck with an inferior version of the film.

The Sword In the Stone is another example, say you bought the decent looking HD digital copy and then they decide to update the server with the new inferior Blu-ray version... you're out of luck and stuck with whatever they see fit.

We've seen time and again that Disney has very little loyalty to collectors and really to consumers in general, we see this regularly in their home video releases, the Limited Issue releases failed to make money so they stopped making them, the Platinum Editions fell in quality with almost every release after the first couple of years, as did the Diamond Editions, 3D was all they cared about for a few months and when it didn't do as well as they had hoped they abandoned it completely, BD-Live was here one day, gone the next, hours of bonus features gone... what makes anyone think they won't do something to mess up their digital catalog is beyond me.

At least with physical media you can choose to purchase the version of a film you are most content with and so long as there is a player to play it in, Disney can't do a thing about it.

That's not necessarily true. There are a million "what if's" and I don't seriously think they would go to that trouble. Once you have a digital copy then that's the copy and version that you will always have. They may make changes with the various Blu-ray versions of their movies and even update the Digital versions for new buyers but I doubt they would change any previous incarnation that people have already purchased. I had a similar situation with a movie (non Disney) that I purchased in HD from iTunes and months later the HD version was pulled and replaced with a completely different SD version with different scenes. My original HD purchase was NOT replaced with the SD version and is still intact to this day. Also, I never suggested that Blu-rays/physical media should be replaced by Digital media. What I said was that I love Blu-rays and that the Digital copy was a nice extra added bonus. I will always buy Blu-rays of my favorite movies as long as they are available.

You can't really compare HD to SD versions of the same movie. Have you ever bought an HD version and then later they replaced the HD version with another HD version? Otherwise, it's not a good comparison.

Also, are you referring to what's in the cloud, or what you downloaded. Obviously if you downloaded the iTunes movie, it won't change. But I'm wondering if the version in the cloud would change, if they replaced the HD version with another HD version. It wouldn't make sense for them to maintain two HD versions of the same movie on their servers.

However you're talking about HD and SD, which are two separate files. Uploading the new SD version wouldn't overwrite the old HD version, even if they did pull it for new customers.
