Best/worst decision I ever made. My collection has exploded since I bought a universal player a couple years ago as has my spending.

No one asked but I went back and looked for dates of past November Criterion/B&N sales:

2021 - Friday, 10/29 to 11/29
2020 - Friday, 11/6 to 11/30
2019 - Friday, 11/1 to 12/1
2018 - Friday, 11/2 to 12/3

It looks like it starts on the first Friday in November with last year being a slight exception. So we should expect it to start next Friday or, more likely, the Friday after.

Thankfully it'll last through the release of Wall-E, so I can grab that for cheap.

We finally 'turned' you!

Mod players are not without issues however so I suggest keeping your old player as a backup.

Since they switched to Friday starts instead of Tuesday (excluding 2020) the most common start date has been 30-31 days before Cybermonday which meant 4 full wks and 5 weekends so Friday Oct 28 is my guess for this year.

It wouldn't totally shock me to see Nov 4 but then they only have 3 weeks for the sale OR they move the end date to the a full week after Cybermonday which I can't remember them doing.

Cybermonday has been the common end date since they starting extending the sale through BF weekend (2012), but at some point after their buyout the end date of most sales switched to Sunday instead of Monday.

Mine was suffering from playback issues which prompted me to make the jump. I still have it stored in the basement "in case of emergency", but I'll honestly just probably buy a cheap new Region A player for back up around Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

The most frustrating part of DD's Olive BOGO sales is not necessarily that they don't offer every title, it's that they offer some titles on DVD in the sale but not the Blu-ray. There are a few this time around that irked me: Hoodlum, Home Of Our Own, Rock-A-Bye Baby, and Geisha Boy.

Edit: And more, Extremities and Mermaids.

As much as I like the titles Olive carried I had scratch damage on three that made parts unplayable which something others complained about as well and they demand you mail it back which for Canadians costs $$$.

A lot of the Olive titles are on UK labels often with newer masters and better encodes.

They even get better releases in the US later, too.

I have only liked their signature collection. Those were very good, IMHO. The standard releases I avoid unless I am convinced that will be.the only version available.
