Criterion does the same on standard DVD releases they never show the case borders.

but then again you never know how far long in the process the release was on each release to know what kind of case.

I would suggest someone e-mail them and just ask Wages of Fear onward includ. Benj B. will the cases be the new plastic case?
I think I will do that Powell....Ill let yall know if I hear anything!

Son of a Monkey! Amazon has this listed as a 2 disc set, while Criterion. com lists it as a single disc! Who's right I wonder?

That's it I'm emailing "Jon Mulvaney". I'll keep you posted.

amazon frequently lists wrong information. it is a 1 disc Bluray, 2 disc DVD for the criterions.

Re plastic vs cardboard. In all likelihood, when Criterion releases a DVD title in cardboard, the BD will also be in cardboard, if there is one. And from now on, when they go plastic for the DVD they at least have the option to go plastic for the BD as well (I think the Chungking Express DVD was packed in plastic).

Thumbs up

How does everyone like the cover art? I think it's a solid choice myself.

What's the likelyhood of Criterion Blu's going out of print in the future like a lot of thier DVD's did,I doubt there will ever be a Blu as rare as the "Salo" DVD from 1998 even if a Blu title goes out of print, whatcha think!?!

Interesting News about Criterion's (Potentially) NEW Casing:

i dont think this was talked about yet, but i caught this over at HDRoom...

Quote:
Elsewhere in the Criterion Collection, we received our review copies today for In the Realm of the Senses and The Wages of Fear. To our surprise neither was packaged in the eco-friendly cardboard cases Criterion has used since their Blu-ray launch last fall.

Instead, Criterion appears to have acted upon widespread criticism and moved to a clear plastic case that looks nearly identical to Playstation 3 game packaging. It is still different enough from other "blue" packaging to stand out, but uniform enough to not be the ugly duckling on your shelf.

Our hopes are high that Criterion keeps this packaging moving forward with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and other releases. Fingers crossed!

Guess it helps if you review movies professionally.

All the Criterion titles seem to be pressed about a month in advance of the release date -- they want to make sure that the reviews are out there in time.

I wonder if Criterion will offer plastic case & cover replacements for the already published titles, now...

Can I send my cardboard copy of 400 blows and chungking express to Criterion in exchange for the plastic case of the same films?
I really don't like those so-called eco-friendly cardborad box~~~

No one knows, yet, if this will be an option through Criterion. There hasn't been an official word.

I'm sure many others here have all of the movies in Cardboard...... I'm sure Criterion won't want to do a replacement for 7 movies just because of the cases....... I'd love it if they gave an option to buy the cover-art and case without the movie, so I could transfer them over......

I have/had nothing against the cardboard cases.....but if they go solely with clear-plastic from this point on.... then I would like to keep them the same for the continuity of the collection......

If they re-release or start selling the "magnificent 7" (as I'll call them ) movies in the clear plastic from here out... rather than continue selling them in the cardboard they're in now.... I'm tempted to double-dip, and get the new plastic cases in addition to the cardboard ones

TIME WILL TELL I GUESS.

Until then... I have an extra copy of Chungking Express.... SEALED/NEW for trade if someone didn't like In the Realm.....or Wages

EDIT:

Get it while you can.... in "Rare" eco-friendly packaging

They released multiple versions at least once. The Life Aquatic was released in a single disc and a double disc set. The only difference is that the single disc didn't include disc 2 (even the single disc version was labeled "disc 1").

This was probably due to Buena Vista's strategy at the time. Criterion has always been limited by the studio's wishes (which is why some early DVDs weren't anamorphic widescreen). This was one of the new major releases which, at the time it came out, the strategy of Buena Vista was to release two versions of the movie: single disc and double disc (or widescreen and P&S). Therefore, they released the single disc for the Wal-Mart crowd and the double disc got out everywhere else.
