So I have been busy and only got time to look into the 16TB hard drive after it's been here for almost a week.

Looks like my NAS that only technically supports 4TB HDD does recongnize it fine.

I have 5 of these old NAS units and they were very cheap when I bought them used. It may be time for me to revisit my digital storage notion. I probably will go back to using RAID. I could still get close to 50TB per unit and 2 of them would last a long time before I need or want a third.

These older NAS units are very bare bones and don't support a lot of features found on nicer units. However, they do what I use them for perfectly and as I said they were cheap which is fun.

Was away over the weekend and listened to this album in stereo.

Hearing it again on Blu Ray with Atmos is such a joy.

Also for those streaming folks, Looks like Sony is offering a vol 2 of the 100 movies for $100 deal.

Still waiting for my entertainment stands to arrive - should be here tomorrow but I did turn on the TV and connected the AT4K to it. I bought a new router and have been taking advantage of my Giganet plan - it is glorious. I've just been watching YT videos and other assorted clips. Still gonna wait until my HT is fulling set up before digging in to some proper programming.

This year has been rough for media.

My local bookstore dropped movies.Big lots has closed all the stores around me and declared bankruptcy. Best Buy dropped media. Rightstuf closed as Sony bought out the competition. Funimation shutdown wiping out digital copies. Inside out 2 is getting the 3d treatment with an exclusive overpriced under printed 4k steelbook and no standard edition. Disney movie club and dmr are closed and closing. Warner bros expired digital copies. Streaming prices have increased, added advertising and cut content production. Vod deals are less common. Combo packs have been cut by a lot of studios.

I have gotten some great deals and great releases this year but most of the media news has been bad for consumers be it physical or digital.

I don't find a problem been watching some good Streaming Series. Bad Monkey on AppleTV+ with Vince Vaughn and just finished The Perfect Couple on Netflix with Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber. Just have to have the right Streaming Shows!

Anyone with compare-and-contrast experience with OPPO and Magnetar?
This Post is from the Hardware Thread, and people are having problems with Blu-ray Players. You guys are down to two main Manufactures Panasonic and Sony with no new models announced. Oppo doesn't look like it's coming back, and service may be on Life Support. With Magnetar and Reavon, Expensive Oppo Knock-Offs struggling, it's not looking good for 4K Blu-ray. Do you guys feel like jumping ship and going Streaming?

I'm tempted to get the BFI edition over the CC edition. I've never seen it either but I heard it's not a cute or cuddly film. Scathing commentary it is.

Personally speaking, no. However I feel this is a strange question to ask when the vast majority of members here already use streaming services anyway. They just happen to prefer discs, as I do.

I've never seen this either. It's one of those films which despite being well known, it just hasn't called out to me (for want of a better expression).

Do you want me to list all the posts and social media comments I have seen about apps crashing, glitching, lagging and failing to work, no to mention the ones that are no longer supported on TVs older than 5 years?

And to answer your question, nope, streaming is for people who don’t care about A/V quality.

It’s so famous, (Infamous) that I feel the need to finally see it, and there is no better way than the glorious format that is 4K disc.

I have an ATV4K and a disc player already. For me jumping ship would be like committing to eating only at gas stations.

Better quality exists and I won't ignore it because you want it to go away.

I currently have 3 Blu-ray/UHD players, one I've had for 7+ years and the other two around 3 years. Have yet to have a problem with any of them. Streaming on the other hand has problems all the time. Apps freezing and crashing, dialogue not matching the image, quality fluctuating due to high demand. I've had far more problems with streaming than ANY physical media player I've ever owned. And streaming services are only getting worse with inflated pricing and more ads.

So do you feel like jumping ship and going to physical?
[Show spoiler]It's just as nonsensical when I ask it of you, isn't it?

I no longer have a physical disc player in my HT... but that doesn't stop me from buying the discs and enjoying top quality.... but honestly, I can't remember the last time I had a streaming app lag, buffer or have any issues either on my phone, TV or HT...

Was not expecting to see my favourite movie of 2024 last night...

but was very pleasantly surprised by this..

Think THE COMMITMENTS meets TRAINSPOTTING by way of 8 MILE.

A physical release would be a day one purchase from me.

I’m spending a few days in the beautiful city of York in the UK. Apart from delving into the Viking and Roman history which is everywhere and York minster of course I visited CEX and HMV this morning. Both were rammed with folk buying film and TV on physical media.

Upstairs in CEX there are hundreds of DVDs for £1 and some good deals on several boutique labels and standard releases on Blu-ray on the ground floor.

In HMV the horror section especially was doing good business as you might expect coming up to Halloween season but other sections were also busy with both DVD and Blu-ray selling well.

I spent around two hours in both shops perusing and chatting to other customers and staff and noticed the 4K sections were somewhat quieter but I’m pleasantly surprised to see physical media being purchased and by many younger folk too.

Just an anecdotal experience of two shops selling physical media in this part of Yorkshire but good to see.

I’m going back in tomorrow to make several purchases as I couldn’t decide today!
