Yup that is the major concern I have with streaming. If the service is free, it's less of an issue to me. But if I'm paying money for the service, I do not want ads. You and I both know it's only a matter of time. Stuff multiple ads into it so that it draws out watching a movie into an entire night. One of the things I like about Tubi is that the ads actually aren't overwhelming. Thankfully Apple and Vudu haven't implemented it yet. I'd rather be annoyed by piracy warnings and trailers than ads right in the middle of a movie, taking me completely out of it.

Streaming basically uses the same File as Disc, so you guys have more to worry than File access for play. The Equipment Forum is all worried about Blu-ray Player problems. You'll have to fix your own problems, so load up on old players because new ones are not coming!

All categorically false.

Let's examine your non sense.

Streaming basically uses the same file as disc. ... There is difference in quality between what a theater receives and what goes to disc and what goes to streaming and the difference is file size and this is accomplished by compression. The more compression the lower the quality and integrity of the digital media. To say the three of these is "basically the same" is to say hamburger and steak are basically the same.

The equipment forum is worried about blu ray player problems - What equipment forum? There is a blu ray player sub forum and not surprisingly people with problems seek answers there. It's like a car forum or a photography forum. It doesn't mean cars or cameras are doomed it's just a place for people to learn.

New players aren't coming - This is your prediction based on nothing. Plenty of new players are available including the Playstation 5 which is very popular.

load up on old players. - I have several but not because I'm worried instead because I'm enthusiastic about the format. One of my players is an external USB C drive that works with my mac and PC computers. Useful with desktops of laptops it plays CDs, DVDs, Blu Rays, UHD Blu Rays. It also writes CDs, DVDs and Blu Rays. I bought it new this year and it is still available new right now. Over 300 purchased in the past month on Amazon alone of this singular model alone while there are countless others.

[Show spoiler]

Email has not replaced USPS and online media will not replace physical media. I regret you deny yourself better media but that's also your choice because it's readily available and not expensive. Quality goods exist and it's ok to choose garbage if that suits you but it's best to know your options.

There is a balancing act though, let’s remember that people were fed up of ads in the first place, and that’s one of the reasons people switched to streaming.
Having read many opinions, in the U.K. people are complaining about the small amount of ads on the cheaper Netflix plan, I don’t see us tolerating huge ad loads.

By now most of you should know that poster has a reading comprehension problem and/or a learning disability and most definitely a memory problem. The most you can do is feel sorry for him as there may not be any kind of medical treatment that would help.

For any newer members or readers, do a little searching in this very thread and it should be quite clear what the problem is with that poster.

I can still find vhs players 25 years after they have been phased out. I’m pretty sure we will all be dead before blu ray players become rare. It’s just to Convenient of a way to move and store large amounts of data to ever go away.

It’s entertaining in a parody sort of way.

I feel exactly the same way.

If something is free, I don't feel like I can complain about it. I enjoy Tubi and whatever happens with it will be fine because I'm not paying for any of it.

If I'm buying something I want to know what it is I'm buying and I prefer to have some control over it.

This is why I have movies in large libraries online but I have stopped buying content that is hosted outside of my home. I redeem codes from purchased movies but I only purchase movies on physical media.

I have managed to stop buying virtual movies now I have to stop trying to teach others things that they refuse to learn. I feel for them when things like the recent changes with ATV4K were terrible but they don't want to be reminded that they don't own the things they purchased and at this point I just have to leave that to them. I don't want people to be ripped off even if I don't know those people. See today's news on the subject below.

Hey All. Posting a Vilya update. With my time left in St Louis down to two weeks, I wanted to spend some time with our friend. He had a treatment scheduled today downtown St Louis, and I hung out with him and his chauffeur Warren for a couple of hours while they were getting him ready. He looked good and sounded even better, but as he has reported, his numbers are moving in the wrong direction for the various tests and indicators. He is still understandably reeling from the loss of Sweetie, but is squeezing in a movie here and there, and still facing the disease with stubbornness and determination. I know we all miss his presence here as he takes a break from time to time, but know he is still with this dysfunctional family in spirit. We said our Goodbyes with a “See you in Delaware in the spring” as it would be great to have the two of them be able to make that trip.

Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it's something. At least then maybe people will start to understand, stop spending as much money on it, and it will force the industry to make better terms for the consumer. To be fair, they already do state that you don't really own anything, it is just buried in their terms & conditions agreement.

So been setting my HT back up slowly but steadily. I am currently at a 3.1.2 set-up at the moment. I should be back up to full 5.2.2 Atmos ready by Monday at the latest. I had to totally re-wire everything and it's been slow. I just need to mount the rear surrounds and connect the second subwoofer and I'm done on that front.

The next part is buying new shelves and bookcases for my physical media that includes movies, books, and vinyl. The Monolith heavy duty stands from Monoprice are phenomenal and look great for the HT.

I'm still on schedule to watch Megalopolis in IMAX tomorrow night. My 4K disc of Longlegs should also arrive tomorrow.

It's very cool that you got to meet and spend time with Vilya and just be a friend to him in this time. Glad you guys had as good a time as can be expected under the circumstances.

Something else I wonder about, is when they start allowing ads, will they eventually start censoring content? I remember when the Sundance and IFC channels used to air content uncut and commercail free. Then they starting showing ads. "Don't worry" they said, we still will be showing content uncut and uncensored. Well, they did at first, but it wasn't long before they began editing movies and shows for content. I believe the same thing happened with AMC years before.

I don't know if you're in the US, but here in the UK we used to have a subscription based film channel called Film Four broadcasting on satellite, which started around 1997. I used to pay to watch this channel as everything was uncut and commercial-free. They also tended to show more UK and other lesser-known films which Sky wouldn't normally touch, which I thought was great. However after a few years, they introduced commercials - granted though it became free to watch, but they did begin to edit them as well I noticed.
