From the sounds of it, Paterno might survive to the end of the season. Unless Penn State is just leaking that information to gauge public perception of Paterno coaching the last couple games.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Penn State administrators are discussing how to manage Joe Paterno's departure as the football coach, the New York Times reported Tuesday, citing two unnamed people briefed on talks among the school's top officials.

Paterno could be done as the football coach perhaps within days or weeks, the newspaper reported. He certainly will not return as coach next year, the newspaper reported.

Paterno is fighting for his job amid "eroding" support from Penn State's board of trustees and a widening sex-abuse scandal and possible cover-up centered on former assistant and onetime heir apparent Jerry Sandusky.

I don't think it's possible for Penn St. administration to handle this mess any worse. At first they came out publicly supporting Curley and the other guy charged with perjury which was a mistake. They should have simply said "we have no comment until the investigation takes it's course" or something like that. Then you have Paterno's rather pathetic written "apology" that really sounded more like him making himself sound like the victim.

Then today's (cancelled) presser was a fiasco. Early in the day they said Paterno's press conference would take place as usual, but reporters would be barred from asking any questions not related to this week's game. That in itself is a complete joke since not a single reporter or or Penn St. fan gives a damn about what Paterno thinks about this week's game vs. Nebraska. All the press and public cares about is the ongoing criminal case. It wasn't until later in the day before they realized the press conference was going to be a disaster and cancelled.

I really wish Paterno would do the right thing and submit his resignation. Doubt he'll go on his own free will though. Penn St. is actually pretty good this season at 8-1. The sooner Paterno and anyone else with the stench of this shocking debacle on them goes the better the program and university will be. They need to cut their losses and move on ASAP. I really don't think he lasts till year-end. In fact he might not last another week the way this story is snowballing. Really ashame since I always admired the way (I thought) Paterno ran that program.

I notice Sandusky's book "Touched" is sold out on Amazon.com and only re-sellers are selling it. I wonder if it's just out of print or a bunch of ghouls decided to buy it after learning he's a serial child-rapist. That book has had a ton of people leave negative reviews this week, driving the avg rating down to 1.5/5 stars. Some of the reviews are hilarious.

Victims Double In Penn State Case

Fox 29 has learned the number of child-abuse in the Penn State sex-abuse scandal involving ex-coach Jerry Sandusky has more than doubled in the past day, and is closer to 20 victims.

There were eight victims named in the grand jury presentment and 40 charges leveled against Sandusky, a long-time assistant to Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno. Paterno was not named in the grand jury finding as violating any laws.

Sources tell Fox 29 since a press conference on Monday, the number of potential victims has more than doubled in the case.

Sandusky was arrested in the case and made bail, while two Penn State administrators face charges related to how an alleged crime was reported in the case to police and investigators.

On Monday, state officials publicized two phone numbers for past victims to call, and within a day, it seems investigators have new leads.

Also on Monday, Pennsylvania state attorney general Linda Kelly said the Sandusky case was consideried an on-going investigation and more charges could be coming.

This still does not mean Penn State will let this happen but it is officially the final Season for Paterno

He should NOT, and I repeat should NOT coach this Saturday's game. It's a travesty that he is and I'm pissed and ashamed that Penn St. will let him coach.

Joe Paterno has released a statement confirming he will retire at the end of the season:

"I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief," Paterno said in a statement released just after initial reports confirming his pending retirement.

"I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today.

"That's why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can.

"This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more. My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this university."

If Paterno really wanted to make it as easy as possible for the Board of Trustees he'd step down immediately.

Their press releases have been in poor taste, the handling of the Paterno press conference was yesterday was also horribly managed. It's sickening that people are behind him. How could anyone in their right mind back him up after this? People amaze me sometimes.

Paterno retiring at the end of the season is not good enough. He needs to step down immediately and they need to totally clean house with the administration.

I don't see any way he could be coaching this weekend. They need to get the word out that he is done right now if they want to save what's left of the school/program.
