What happens when something worth watching is streaming ?

It comes to disc in even higher quality.

A few of us already know anything good online will be on disc in time.

Hey All. Sharing an update on my move, so sorry if it is a bit off topic somewhat, but I will tie it back somehow. My system has been taken down and boxed up including all the LED poster frames. Took over two weeks to get all that plus the albums, cds, and movies boxed up as well. I swear my next hobby is not going to involve insanely heavy things.

Moving van shows up here on the 16th and we settle in Lewes Delaware on the 22nd, but will not finish the basement until 2025, which means I will probably go 6 months without enjoying a movie.

I have been planning and designing what audio will look like in the rest of the house, and actually pulled the trigger on a Blue Sound setup as I do not want to cut into and run wires to the main level, as the ceiling looks too good to have speakers in it. I grabbed a Vault of theirs which will serve as the storage and brains for the whole house audio on the main level and finished basement. The vault rips cds and has a 2 TB storage, and the app is insane with the amount of control it has. It also can stream Tidal, so all my music upstairs and downstairs will be lossless whether from ripped cds or the occasional Tidal playlist. The Vault also will feed the basement level with music through its physical outputs, and I am finalizing my research on amp/speakers/subs setup for the bar area, everything being in walls including the subs. Main level will actually have a first for me, in that I ordered Blue Sound’s Pulse sound bar and wireless sub to go behind a couch, and a Pulse Mini which will receive lossless wirelessly. I will be looking at tvs in the next couple of weeks out there, but have not even scratched the surface on size or brand, but Panasonics announcement has my curiosity piqued at the moment. I also have to buy a new screen and will go with a 2.39:1 ratio this time around, but all the rest of the equipment goes with me to the new room. I am looking at some ideas for acoustic wall treatments and will make this room cleaner with respect to that aspect.

I will only be buying the occasional disc since it does not make sense at the moment to me since I can’t go home and pop it in, but will grab a special release from time to time, such as the Steelbook of A Quiet Place I bought from Walmart this morning. Maybe Black Friday this year is a good one and I add some titles then.

Oh yeah, I made sure I have fiber coming into the house for my internet, which is also a first for me.

It's too bad they won't put out Cobra Kai S3, S4, S5 on Blu-ray or 4K. Great show, but I don't want to sign up for Netflix.

Alternatively, I watched S1 and S2 of Tehran off of ATV+ and really enjoyed the show, but you have to import the Blu-rays and I thought they were region-locked.

Default Blu-ray Disc Association Celebrating 20th Anniversary

While Japan might have had recordable Blu-ray in 2003, the USA market did not have Blu-ray players until 2006 and then computer BD-R drives.

select quotes

"This year marks the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Blu-ray Disc Association, the organization responsible for the completion and promotion of the Blu-ray Disc format."

"To commemorate the occasion, the BDA will host two events at CEATEC 2024 in Chiba, Japan. The first will be a panel discussion at 3 p.m. on Oct. 16 covering the development, launch and impact of Blu-ray Disc and Ultra HD Blu-ray, as well as the Blu-ray Disc Association’s continued efforts to support and advance the format and business of the many companies that are part of the Blu-ray Disc ecosystem. The panel will be open to all CEATEC attendees."

"And, in 2016, the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format was introduced, bringing 4K resolution, High Dynamic Range and enhanced audio into viewers’ living rooms, making Ultra HD Blu-ray the preferred choice for many filmmakers, music producers, movie enthusiasts and content collectors, the BDA noted."

Lossless audio and far less compressed video. One specification doesn't tell the whole story. YMMV but I prefer Blu Ray to iTunes 4K.

Got my tickets for Gladiator II in IMAX. Wanted to go Dolby Cinema but Wicked has all the DC's, so IMAX it shall be.

Watched Longlegs on 4K disc over the weekend and it was stellar. It's currently my #2 film of the year.

I find that it varies greatly from title to title and streamer..

What i don't understand is why a steam specific title like BLINK TWICE wasn't given more breathing room... given it's visuals, it will make a striking disc!

Longlegs was a reference disc... but I was expecting too much from the narrative and went in with too high expectations...

I had a much better time with STRANGE DARLING.

Placed an order for some 4K titles over at OrbitDVD:

Exorcist III 4K UK
The Hitcher 4K UK
Trick r Treat 4K US

I believe they're all in stock, so should have them all in before Halloween.

Yes Wendell I thought you dropped S&V a long time ago. I go way back to Home Theater Magazine. So what does this mean?

OrbitDVD shipped my order out about 45 minutes after I ordered it this morning. They're located in NC, which was hit by Helene, but they seem to be up to full operating mode now. I should be getting my stuff by next week at the latest.

I also just invested in a 4K Fire Stick from Amazon. The ATV4K and PRIME just can't seem to get it together when it comes to Dolby Atmos. All Dolby Atmos programming has defaulted to 2.0 sound via the ATV4K. It might have something to do with the latest tvOS update 2 weeks ago that may have jammed it up. 4K Fire Sticks are all working fine, so went with the Fire Stick Max. I'll use that one going forward just for PRIME. Amazon even threw in free overnight shipping, which will arrive tomorrow between 4am - 8am. Now that's service!

Means something good is being lost to a virtual version. Things change but sometimes not for the better.

I think most of them will be junked. Do they even have any titles in them worth selling off? I remember the last big film in mine being Barbie. But you would think the movie companies would get sue happy over it if people started cracking them open and taking or selling the discs.
