My residence is in a gated community (here) and we pay HOA and other fees quarterly, how do we pay, payment is by old fashion checks (only). So If you want to live here you better have a checking account.

Credit cards, anyone that has not heard of or been involved in credit card fraud or theft has been living under a rock. On at least 3 occasions we have had to cancel cards, dispute charges, etc., a real PITA.

I agree with you on the snap cases, never been a fan of those either mate.

and Talking about Banking you have to keep up, check writing is Obsolete and Unsecure. With Direct Deposit and Routing you have all the security and flexibility needed. Just with these tools I can control my Banking and Stock Investments.
I don't even know where my check book is right now. But

1) the check my dad gets every year is form a major financial institution, so I will assume they know a lot more than you do.

2) if someone manages to get your PIN for your Debit card or your password they can empty your account real fast, and if they do you are on the hook for all the money lost

2) If someone gets your credit card # they can go out and put a lot on it before you even notice and you might be able to contest it but that is very hard and time consuming and in the end you might not get it all back.

3) A check might just be a bit of paper, and it is annoying as hell, but it is a written contract and it is the banks responsibility to make sure it is legit and the money goes to the right person. The day there is a question on legitimacy the bank needs to reverse the wrong, so in that way it is the most secure.

Growing up catholic, thanksgiving had a more religious bent and so we would do the big meal on Sunday.

I only started celebrating again about 3 years ago. My kids had heard many times about my culinary skills over the years but, out of deference to my wife, I had not subjected her vegetarian sensibilities to the sight of a huge bird carcass. When she gave the OK, I jumped in whole hog with all the trimmings.

It was such a hit, that we started celebrating Christmas LOL.. yeah, my kids get a full turkey dinner twice a year

Mom's a spring chicken at 81... Dad, if he's still living, is 74..

Our Thanksgiving isn't until the last week of November. We'll have Halloween in just under 2 weeks.

Yeah, I contemplated screening the Eli Roth movie last night with my daughter while making my turkey stock, but it really is an american black Friday film..

So we watched the new UHD of YOU"RE NEXT ... more of a family meal movie.

no turkey this year . we had it in a reception room at my sister condo building and we got it catered. But I do miss when all big holidays' get together where at my house. I used to cook the Turkey.

what do you do? for me it was a simple bread stuffing and roasted the bird stuffed on top of shredded onions and apples, added salt and pepper and shredded bacon (as bacon cooks it release fat basing the bird) --apple mush, juices onions and bacon would go into making the gravy.

yeah, Halloween is the same, but as a harvest festival by your Thanksgiving we could be nee deep in snow so that would be way too late.

Once you've spatchcocked a bird, you will never go back! I cook both chicken and turkey this way! It's even easier these days as I get my butcher to do it at pickup. Neck, backbone and a few extra turkey parts from the butcher go into making stock the night befroe..My kids already had midnight turkey last night from the stock parts..LOL..

Spatchcocking also makes it easier to lift the skin without tearing. In about an hour, I'll have my hands deep under there from the neck all the way throghh to the thighs... and will cram as much bacon as I can get under there before rubbing down the outer skin with a butter, salt and pepper mixture..topped with more bacon..

My stuffing is made on the BBQ with my stock, pork sausage, onions, cranberries, bacon and breadcrumbs. I grill veg on the BBQ as well. A simple garlic mashed potatoes will work with the gravy I make while the bird is resting. Cranberry sauce just came off the stove and will chill in the fridge next to the pumpkin cheese cake my wife baked this morning

You don’t fancy flying over to ours for Christmas, do you? We just bang the Turkey in the oven and buy sage and red onion stuffing to go alongside it.

Yup happened to me. Someone got into a Walmart account that apparently had my CC information stored and didn't require 2FA. I gave Walmart a good chewing for that one. But they refunded all the fraudulent purchases someone put on my card. Ran up about a $500 something bill. Took a couple weeks but got it all back.

These days I don't keep my card stored anywhere. If I want to buy a Blu-ray or buy a movie on FN, I will go out and buy a gift card at a store with cash.

But yes it's getting to where you have to have a card to pay for some things. My water bill doesn't let you use a check anymore, gotta have a card or direct payment from your bank account. And they charge you a "convenience fee" even though you don't have a choice. Just a way to charge you more so they can pad their pockets tbh.

Since that happened, I kept getting 2FA notifications for my Amazon account, my Microsoft account and I even had someone that wanted to authenticate my Apple account in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I ended up deleting my entire Yahoo email account and switched everything over to a new Gmail instead.

I'm not sure what exactly they breached. I don't think they got to my email because after I closed it down and changed the email on all my accounts, new secure passwords and 2FA, they haven't been able to get to any of it.

Same here but we never really did turkey. My family are Italian-Americans so we always made those meals. Baked ziti, pasta & meatballs, sometimes my grandma made sesame seed cookies, lots of stuff with seafood.

You guys are in the Stone Age, I haven't written a check in Decades it's all Check/Debit Card. I also live in a Community with an HOA and we pay with Routing Direct Deposit. Do you know how much information is on one of those checks, Name, Address, Phone Number, Checking Account Number, Routing, and Bank Name. Enough for the Bad Guys to steal from the Postman, and then you have to hope the Recipient deposes of the check properly by shredding it...No Thank You Going with Change is the Only Way!

I certainly did, I think I still have it in storage. Is that the one where the extras were accessed via a on screen pod? Also the booklet had the extras listed and described as pods?

Mind you, I absolutely love the Blu-ray set, Alien and Aliens look stellar. The 4K even better, and I didn’t mind the Aliens 4K, even though it’s very different looking. (A.I additions)

Until a few years ago, you had a back projection tv and were still preaching about how you were future proofed. I think it’s best you don’t make such comments.
