I know what you mean. I also hate some of the packaging they use for many CD releases these days. I don't mind so much the digipacks where at least there's a plastic holder to store the CD safely, but it's the packaging with cardboard slots where the disc slides in and out of that I completely detest. It's so easy to scratch the discs every time you remove them. I tend to bin them now and instead I'll put the CD's into slimline cases which I buy on Amazon - at least the discs are totally protected.

So very glad to not live with an HOA. Imagine owning a home and letting a committee of someone else tell you what you can and can't do. I guess you like having others tell you what you can and can't do and I suppose there's all types of people. I write checks all the time and don't care if you think it's outdated because it works just fine. Change can be good but what is more important is being able to actually think for yourself. We are very different. I own my home and I own my movies. You prefer to let someone else own your things and tell you what you can and can't do with them. A HOA can foreclose a house for not keeping up with the lawn work. My friend's mother asked him to post a American flag on his porch but he can't because the HOA says no flags or unique yard decorations. If you don't mind tell me how much you have to pay every month for someone else to make decision for you. I'm already laughing but I would find it interesting. You may spend more each month on HOA than I do on Blu Rays. Last edited by bhampton; 10-15-2024 at 03:53 PM. |

Many here have been watching movies on large scope screens for many years, same for 5.1 or greater sound for a long time now. My 1994 van had a 11 speaker system by Infinity, my 2015 van has the same with JBL and two viewing positions for DVD and Blu-ray. 3 decades of X10 automation, coming up on a decade of voice control, Alexa and Google, Z-Wave and Zigbee automation. Almost 3 decades of advanced media remote control. And yes, we have about 10 to 12 accounts that are direct deposit or payment. No action required by us except to enter into Quicken. Even those Quicken actions could be automated but we prefer to do that manually. A 65" TV with headphones, now that truly is stone age. You should really try to put your brain in gear before putting your mouth in motion. |

Understandable and that would be our preference but land here is very expensive so it would be cost prohibitive to buy enough land to protect our home site. Without a HOA a person could move in and install a dog kennel driving down the value of our property. That is just one scenario, I can think of several others.
My brother lives in a very nice neighborhood but no HOA. He planted clumping bamboo on about ¾ of his property line to isolate himself from neighbors. The back part is open to the lake behind his house. |

A few years ago that was in 2016, I had a 62" Mitsubishi DLP with a very good picture. I tend to keep my cars and TV's a while, I like Chevy's and Honda's. The only Engines in the Indianapolis 500, they will last a Decade easy.

Telling people they living in the Stone Age yet they have much more advanced technology than yourself is a stupid post and it is insulting. You liking streaming has nothing to do with such post. You have made several post that has made reference to my IQ, there is no secret here, anyone can click the link in my signature line for a short summary of my education, qualifications and license that I hold.

My niece has her doctorate (eye surgeon), my brother-in-law has his doctorate (DMD, retired), another kin has her doctorate (chemistry), sister-in-law with a BS in computer science. What does all of this mean in terms of Blu-ray.COM, nothing. You either know electronics or you don’t and I do. What is your flight rating single or multi-engine? VFR or IFR? Yes, I spent a lot of time in small craft. My brother owned a Mooney Ranger with retract and VPP, that thing could scoot. |

Excited to have The Ring UHD BD arrive today. I adore Naomi Watts and love the movie.
It is still on sale and buying it from the link here supports the site as well which is fun. ![]() Last edited by bhampton; 10-16-2024 at 08:55 AM. |

Me too, except for the Chevy's part.
Honda is my favorite and 4 out of the 5 cars my family owns are Honda's. I'm very into my 1973 Super Beetle Convertible project for the moment. The VW is just fun and thankfully ,... it has been fun so far. I recently bought the parts car on the right using a personal check. ![]() Last edited by bhampton; 10-16-2024 at 09:10 AM. |

Me too mate. I even bought the VHS Widescreen editions of the first 3 films when they came out around the early 90's I think - probably sometime when Alien 3 was released on video in the shops. Despite not yet having a widescreen TV, I still enjoyed seeing these films in the correct ratio.

On the subject of technology and nostalgia, I learned that a young man named Steve Jobs once sold his VW Bus for $1500 seed money to help start a computer company called Apple.
Later in life he tracked it down and restored it. I was most likely obsolete when he did that but sometimes outdated things can be fun and fun is never outdated. [Show spoiler]

I took exception to statements about Stone Age checks. When we bought our house at Cummings Cove we paid in full by check because a check is what the closing attorney required. When we purchased our last two vehicles we paid in full, by checks. When I purchased our projector, screen, masking, remote, etc. we paid by wire transfer because that is what the seller required and the bank required a check for the transfer. When I purchase our next projector the seller most likely will require a wire transfer or bank check. I plan to order a upscale pickup in the coming months and I will wager the dealer will accept a Stone Age check for it. High Horse, that is ![]() |

I finally streamed some movies with the Sony Picture Core service that came with my Bravia 9 TV. I viewed Gran Turismo, 65, and Harold And The Purple Crayon in 4K and Panic Room in HD.
The video quality on the three 4K films was excellent; I doubt that I would have noticed any differences between the Sony Picture Core stream and the 4K disc. The HD stream of Panic Room was unimpressive, probably due to the source used, but still an improvement over the DVD. The main difference was with the audio; it sounded robust and lively like what I would expect from a 4K disc. The audio is usually lackluster on almost all of the streaming sources that I use. It was refreshing to have great audio with streamed content. What I saw, and heard, with Sony Picture Core Service is what streaming could be and what it should be, but, sadly, this has not been realized anywhere else nor is it likely to be anytime soon. Most, if not all, of the common streaming sources will continue to cut costs with overly compressed video and neutered audio; their idea of a premium viewing experience is to charge us extra to remove ads. The film selection at Sony Picture Core is very limited and the 4K selection extremely so, but it is enough to show what is possible and it serves as a stark contrast to what most streaming services actually offer. |
