Yeah, the only way to even start to think about rebuilding your reputation as an institution is a clean slate and while it will never be the same, better to start sooner rather than later. Paterno doesn't seem to realize or is in denial that his kingdom is crumbling around him and other than delusional people offering blind support to him, most logical individuals will put the safety of children many, many notches above winning football games.

Whoever is the bleepin BONEHEAD that is allowing Patreno to coach the rest of the season needs to be FIRED today along with Patreno.

Penn State President Graham Spanier will quit or be fired by the end of the day, a source close to the board of the trustees told the Express-Times.

I really find it hard to believe that Penn State will let Paterno coach against Nebraska this weekend, but it's starting to look more and more likely that could be the case. I'm flabbergasted.

Once again, they're putting the football program ahead of the victims.

Maybe the NCAA will step in.

Thats why I said the program needs to be nailed as un-fair as it is to the players, all this kind of thing does is say its still ok to protect the cash cow.

I honestly don't think that's the case here. I really believe the problem is just a lack of leadership. In the past 72 hours we've had the AD, school President and another executive all leaving either by firing or resignation, with two of them indicted for perjury. It just seems like the school is paralyzed with inactivity since there doesn't appear to be any single person running things.

It's really a bizarre situation and I'm not sure anything will be done by the school with regard to Paterno before next week. He obviously won't quit now for the good of the program.

The actual decision to let Joe coach or to not let Joe coach, Saturday, or beyond, has not yet been made by the Board of Trustees, which has a scheduled meeting Friday, that will also have the Gov. of PA in attendance, as this is a state school.

The AD and Pres are not on the job. So, really we all have to wait to hear what the Board's decision is. They've announced that they're appointing a committee to fully investigate. They may let Joe coach until the committee findings are presented... which could take how long, weeks ?? months ??

I could see the board deciding to "temporarily suspend" Paterno pending the results of the investigation. And considering the investigation is likely to last months it would effictively be the same as letting him go, only doing it in a "nice" way.

Couldn't the NCAA step in and force or heavily demand (in other words) Petreno not to coach on Sat?

You would think if Patreno had any common sense, he would change his mind b4 Sat, and step down.

The thing is Penn State didn't violate any NCAA rules so there's really nothing they can do. People involved may have broken numerous laws but the program itself won't face any NCAA sanctions and the NCAA is powerless and can't force Paterno out.

Supposedly all 6 of Sandusky's own children were adopted by him. I have to wonder if there was anything going on there. A lot of couples have to wait many years on a list to adopt one kid and this guy gets to adopt 6? The whole thing sounds fishy.

Joe Paterno hasn't actually "coached" ANYONE for several years now.

And that's a good point. He's been a figurehead for nearly a decade. All he does is give speeches to the team at halftime, do a little recruiting and sit in his luxury box far from the field during games. He's head coach in name only and I doubt his leaving would have any real effect on team performance.

In non-Penn State news Central Florida's Athletic Director Keith Tribble has resigned, as did assistant football coach David Kelley, and basketball coach Donnie Jones was suspended 3 games without pay and reprimanded after the school was cited by the NCAA for unethical conduct involving recruiting violations involving both the football and basketball program. Among the allegations:

Quote:
The NCAA alleged that Ken Caldwell, identified by the body as "a recruiter for a professional sports agency," and Brandon Bender, named as an associate of Caldwell, helped UCF recruit six men's basketball players and five football prospects by promoting the school's athletic programs.

Caldwell and Bender had contact with recruits and Tribble, Kelly and Jones were aware of that contact, according to the NCAA notice of allegations.

The NCAA further alleged Caldwell and Bender paid the tuition and fees for UCF men's basketball players, including $11,190 in tuition and fees for a men's basketball player; gave a laptop computer to a football recruit; and covered transportation expenses for men's basketball recruits.

Yeah, no kidding, but even having him maintain his title at this point is a joke. There is a reason they already have recruits jumping ship, no one wants to be associated with a pedophile.

Not surprising. As a UCF grad I knew this was coming for months since the NCAA was wrapping up the investigation. I believe O'Leary was one of the people being investigated. Thankfully it appears he and the current staff and players within the football program escaped mostly unscathed.

I'm so tired of all the scandals in college sports. Can't anyone play by the rules anymore?
