I just wanted to point out that Second Sight's release of The Hitcher 4K causes the Oppo 203 to manifest a small glitch when starting playback of the movie AND viewing it with Dolby Vision. This glitch happens with some combinations of the Oppo 203 and TVs, but not all. The glitch does not occur when watching with just HDR10. I experienced this issue when watching with my Oppo 203 and my Sony Bravia 9 TV.
When starting the movie the screen will go black and it will freeze there with the Oppo 203 display timer at 0:00:00. If you press the remote control's "Top Menu" button twice in a row, playback will start from the very beginning. Alternatively, you can stop the disc, return to the Oppo's home menu, press play on the remote and select "resume" when the prompt appears. You can also use the "go to" button on the remote and manually set the timer to 0:00:01 and the movie will play normally. I prefer the "Top Menu" button fix myself. It's an odd and minor nuisance. The upcoming U.S. release may fix this, but the Second Sight edition has LOTS of fun extra features, so I would still recommend getting it. The upcoming Warner Bros. release will likely be bare bones as far as extras are concerned. Edit: Credit for the glitch fixes goes to forum members sfmarine, Geoff D, and David M; they posted about it here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=1332 https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=1412 https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=1440 Last edited by Vilya; 10-17-2024 at 02:57 PM. |

I am convinced if Dolby Vision wasn't buggy it would be as much of a standard as Dolby Audio currently is.
I don't suppose it's glitchy in some arenas but for like TVs and home playback it's got a lot of problems when it should be trouble free. |

Netflix used to provide several test videos that would show data rate, frame rate and resolution. Then they removed data rate and resolution. Prime diagnostic screens used to show video resolution, video data rate and audio data rate. That feature has been removed. ![]() Just in case anyone wonders: HUD = Heads Up Display. It is a diagnostic screen that shows some network, audio and video parameters. It looks like this: [Show spoiler]

It seems like streaming services, and digital storefronts, do not want us to have access to such data. |

I'm probably going to blind-buy Hush on 4K at some point, as well. Heard great things about Strange Darling.

I picked up A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE on Blu-ray from Amazon as it was only another $2 more than FN and comes with the digital code.
Also picked up EXHUMA on FN in 4K. Looking forward to watching both this weekend. I get that they want to save money, but it would be nice if the 4KBD included the regular BD too. I would probably have paid a little more for the 4KBD if it did. |

![]() The real way to tell the difference between streaming and disc is to do a direct comparison by watching the same movie via both sources on your own personal set-up; how things look and sound in your own home with your own equipment (and your settings choices) in your own environment is what matters. Compare the 4K stream to the 4K disc, the HD stream to the blu-ray disc, and even the SD stream to the DVD. Once you see and hear the differences that's where the objective measurement data becomes interesting; the data allows you to quantify the discrepancies beyond the mere use of subjective adjectives like describing the video/ audio quality as terrible, bad, good, or (dare I say it) fantastic! ![]() |

After a week with the Amazon Firestick 4K Max, I went ahead and deleted the PRIME app from the ATV4K and will have the Firestick be my dedicated PRIME streamer going forward. It's such a stable device and there seem less screwups than the PRIME app on the ATV4K. Granted, being that Firestick & App are within the same ecosystem under Amazon, they'll receive better attention than using the app on an Apple device.

2) yes some here have exceptional systems, but that is far from everyone and even the people with exceptional systems probably have some taht are more average. 3) The irony in your comment is that since you are the only one here without a UHD BD player you are the only one that can't compare the two. But somehow you feal like sharing your ignorant opinion. |
